Does DirecTV count as cable as it is not a streaming service? I assume you are asking between streamers only and people that still do cable or satellite.

For now, going to change in the next 30-45 days though. I've had DirecTV for probably 20 out of the last 23 years. Only time I/we didn't was if I/we were in an apartment complex that didn't allow the dish to be installed. Now that DTV has lost Sunday Ticket (and more specifically RedZone Channel), I am forced to move on. DTV has also gotten wicked expensive (unless you do the "script" every year). While I will miss being familiar with how it operates, it looks like YouTube TV is pretty simplistic itself and we are going to get a great deal on it being Frontier internet customers.

Does YouTube TV = Cable TV? I don't think it does so I voted no. I'll be back later after I brush my teeth, fold my jeans and put the ketchup back in the fridge.

I've had the same cable package for 15 years :bag:

Just before Covid they stopped doing the cancel dance with me...... probably time to try again

I am in this exact same boat. I haven't cancelled yet or added youtube TV yet. I am a little apprehensive and probably just need to pull it off like a band aide.

Our house binned off Sky here for cost reasons ages ago, but personally the only TV I watch is sports and that's exclusively in the pub. Nobody here, pay TV or otherwise, has made anything of value for at least 15 years and is mostly concerned with lowest common denominator rehashes, woke nonsense, or both.

The cable company is my ISP. My internet glitches from time to time... enough that I won't change to YouTube TV because of it. DirecTV still best option.

No. It's been close to 10 years since I've had a cable tv or satellite service. My internet is through a cable tv provider, but I do not have a tv package with them.

If DirecTV doesn't count as cable, I guess the question is deigned to get at a person's usage of a particular technology (hardwired cable), as opposed to utilizing a service that offers a wide array of local and traditional cable programming?

Yep. I would be fine with cutting the cable, but my wife... not so much.
After a few years of discussion, the wife finally relented from direct TV to direct TV stream, then finally completely cut that service. So now we “only” have the Disney package with Hulu and ESPN, Amazon prime, peacock, and for the summer Netflix but we’re going to cancel that by September.

Nope
I think this is a dated poll then. IMO, if "cable TV" included any service that costs more than $50 per month for a multi-channel service (so satellite and YouTube TV would also be included), that would be a more interesting pole*.

*Like Lech Walesa, or JP II.

Dumped DirecTV last month and switched to YoutubeTV solely due to Sunday Ticket. No issue so far an am not missing DTV one bit.

I hear ya. Also apprehensive considering I know where to find all my favorite shows and whatnot. Wife also resistant to change and wanted to make sure YTV had all the channels she needs for her various lowbrow entertainment.

I killed cable 5 years ago. Dropped YouTube TV 2 years ago, Netflix cancelled this week.

Down to Prime and Disney.

Rip it off. Had DTV for 20yrs. Took me 1 day to get use to the differences.

Went through the exact same thing. Wife was really unsure, until I showed her not only could we get her channels but you can design the onscreen guide to group all those channels together at the top, so no more hunting around. That’s all it took, we cancelled DTV the next day. Lol.

The only other thing of concerns for me is I do have the MLB ticket for DTV. It's my son's favorite thing and we watch a ton of baseball with that. I may have to wait until the season is over. Then I will have to look at options for next year for streaming the MLB package.

I purchased it directly through MLB so have it via the app (smart tv app too).

Spectrum has a monopoly on the local sports broadcasts here somehow, so I'm stuck with them to watch Lakers, Dodgers, etc.

I put yes because I feel that direct tv is cable. I’ve had it forever. I gave sling a try for a year. It was horrible. Considering dumping DTV now That there are better easier options.

Just cancelled last month.

We have:
Amazon prime(although this we would have anyways)
Netflix
HBO max - will be cancelled shortly

TMobile offers the MLB package for free.

DirecTV stream only. All other subscriptions cut. Will selectively add temporarily when shows dictate, but due to the calendar probably restricted to winter. We get all the sports we want with this service and we don't watch much else.

We still have cable, through Spectrum. They also provide our internet service.

I hate spectrum, and we spend near $200/mos for their sh!tty service.

Never heard of YouTube TV, but looks a lot cheaper. For those that have it, how is the functionality? If you ditch cable, where do you get internet service from which to stream?

Cut the cord about 12 years ago.

Honestly, though, it's getting the point where I'm not sure YouTube TV is really "cutting the cord". Sure, $73 is better than cable. But the price has also doubled in the last 5 years, and I'm sure it will keep going up.

If we could get better antenna reception for local channels, I'd look to go back to Sling or something.

Outside of the cost, one major benefit, and to me, a deal breaker for traditional cable at this point, is not having to deal with humans or contracts or some company's stupid equipment.

I have canceled and switched cable providers a number of times in my life. I assure you, I will never go through that again.

If I don't like a streaming service anymore, I click a button and it's done (well, Amazon's "Iliad" lawsuit aside).

Functionality is fantastic. I can't imagine there's much of anything that cable does that YouTube TV does not.
The "DVR" set up is fantastic, and you can watch it anywhere and any device. You can also share the account with 5 other people.

I also get my internet service from a cable company. It's fine, though I'm going to shop that a little when I get time.

If you do it, hunker down for some long, awful calls to Spectrum.

Internet provider options vary so much from location to location, but if you have another alternative to Spectrum, I'd imagine it's worth looking into.

Cut the cord ~5 years ago, but with Hulu+, Disney+, ESPN+, Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO/Max, etc. I'm probably paying the same thing as I would if I just had cable alone. Paying $15 or whatever to rent the stupid cable box irritated the hell out of me.

we still have cable

have tried dropping and cobbling together various services to still watch what we want and it either ends up costing more, or you can't part together the streaming services to work.

live sports is a must
wife wants netflix
kids want youtube
wife and kids want hulu
i still like watching history/documentary shows, still want to catch various other programs that are not on streaming, etc.

and i get in this discussion with friends from time to time which usually results in what feels like an MLM presentation of just how it is possible to drop cable, then create a package of 13 other service between tv, tablet, laptop and phone that gets me what cable offers at only a slight increase in costs.

as much as Spectrum sucks, i'd rather pay 1 service monthly and watch tv on a tv than keep track of many monthly payments and devices whose terms, conditions and costs change variably.. some of which may well shut down, change ownership and/or be sub-divided off to another subscription package... OS updates and now X doesn't work anymore, etc.

sure, YouTube tv costs X now, but soon it will be YouTube Sports, YouTube Reality, YouTube News, etc. and each will cost 60% of what YouTube tv cost before but now you "need" all 3 to get what you had before. too many headaches.

Kindof in the same boat here. There are a few things that cable offers that we (mostly Mrs Keerock) can't get over.

HULU Live takes care of live sports and any hulu needs. It also has pretty much anything you want that normal cable has.
YouTube is free. My kids watch crap on YouTube on their phones all the time.
Netflix is netflix.

Honestly, streaming is cake. It takes a little time to adjust but I started 4-5 years ago and even with price increases I'm STILL about $50 less per month. I track it on a spreadsheet and update it every couple of months to compare.

And streaming is so effing easy. No cable boxes. You can move TV's around with ease. Your phone is your remote, AND if you are traveling you have all your stuff literally in the palm of your hand. I've streamed in hotels before since most of them have SMART TV's now.

You can do it. I believe in you.

We even login at my in laws across town when a game is on they don't have access to.

Yes, my wife watches too much TV and Ive run the #s and "cutting the cable" would only save us $20-$30 a month so not worth the hassle IMO.

Cut the cable right after my divorce, didn't get it when I moved out. With the exception of times I want to watch the Mavs or Rangers without going rouge, haven't missed it.

My parents have finally stopped asking me "Did you see American Idol/Voice/Masked Singer/World Has Talent?" because they remember I don't have access.
