Whats the consensus on Drew Bledsoe (1 Viewer)

I know he "owns" one with the Pats 1st Superbowl as a backup.

He did come in in the Pittsburgh game to help them win in the playoffs.

Is Bledoe considered to have "his super bowl ring"?

When everyone considers him for the HOF, will the say he has a ring.

Will people say he was only in 1 super bowl game.

Tough call. I would say yes because he threw a very important TD against a very good Pittsburgh team and did not turn the ball over after having sat on the bench for 15 weeks with a horrible injury. NE needed reasonable play from him.

So his reume for HOF consideration for the writers, includes a Super Bowl Ring?

I guess he has his ring, he just doesn't have a superbowl victory.

Was that all he played in the playoffs that year?

Did he start the next game?

I can't remember...

By one metric -- adjusted yards per attempt -- Drew Bledsoe has been a below average QB for his career.

0 = league average.

People usually forget about how bad he was back then, and if you do that, it makes his HOF case a bit more compelling. If you factor in his whole career, I think he pretty clearly falls out of consideration and at best was an average QB for his whole career. He's only had what I would consider to be three very good sesaons, and certainly no great or unbelievable seasons. A clear no in my book.

I should add, those above numbers are all based on Bledsoe the passer, relative to the league average passer. He actually gets a pretty decent sized downgrade when you consider non-passing skills, i.e., his lack of mobility and his penchant for getting sacked. Neither of those factor into the above analysis.

That may be, I don't care if he gets in or not, I was just wondering as many QB's are judged and compared based on a Super Bowl ring.Just not sure if I give him credit for having one.I think I would say NO, he doesn't have a ringAlthough the New England organization should make sure he has 3 rings. If not for him, they may have never seen Brady

He did as much to earn a SB ring as Dan Marino, Jim Kelly and Fran Tarkenton.

Well...no, he was on a team that WON a Super bowl.He started (and lost) 2 games that year.and, as mentioned played an important part of an important playoff game to get his team to the Super Bowl.

Last I checked, football is a team sport. If you're on the team and you win the big one, you get the ring. Yes, he has a ring.

I'm sure there are players who are on a team now that are considered great players but maybe picked up thier rings early in thier careers when they couldn't contribute as much.

I don't think it will matter when it comes down to him being considered for the Hall, because I can't see any way he makes it in, ring or no ring. Maybe the voters should change the designation to "Super Bowl winning quarterback".

In my mind, to be HoF worthy, you need to think "Wow, he was a great player and I love watching him play". He may have a lot of passing yards, but who really thinks that about Bledsoe? Do you honestly get excited about seeing Bledsoe play because he is such a great QB? I certainly don't.
