What's the deal with Daniel Graham? (1 Viewer)

How is it that they are so underutilizing him. He's now Shannon Sharpe to be sure, but he's trailing Selvin Young in targets and is languishing on many waiver wires. I had pretty high expectations for him, but he hasn't done anything. What gives?

He's more of a blocker than a receiver

He's not far off pace for his career best in targets, with 2 per game (38 in 2003)

Blocker more than a receiver. Probably the best blocking TE in the league. Dropped a critical 4-and-1 a few weeks ago (when Shanahan went for a questionable 4th on like his own 10-20 yard line). Tough catch? sure. One you HAVE to come up with there.

And with the absence of Walker, I expect Scheffler (not Graham) to benefit. I thought it was a bad signing to be honest. Should of got a cheaper blocking TE. Scheffler is a good enough receiving TE.

A few non-Patriot fans (i.e. those who haven't seen him on a weekly basis) seem to have a misunderstanding of what type of player Graham is. Whether it's because he was a big time threat at Colorado or that he looks so athletic his receiving ability is pretty overrated. In his last three years with the Pats his reception totals were 30, 16 and 21. In his five years there he never had more than 38 catches and only had more than 250 yards twice (409 in 03 and 364 in 04). While he can make the circus catch he is no stranger to dropping the easy one.

As far as blocking goes he's a monster. He's as good as there is in that aspect of the game. He's real physical and always plays hard. There's not a team in the NFL that wouldn't benefit from his presence. That being said he's not worth the contract Denver gave him. They gave him real good money for the Te position. IMO for the type of money he got he needs to contribute more in the passing game and I'm really not sure that will ever happen.

It better be this ####### week, while Winslow is on bye.Hopefully it will be the only time I need his sorry ###.

Another high-profile F.A. signee that has cashed in on being a product of the Pats' system. Damien Woody, Joe Andruzzi, Lawyer Milloy, David Patten, Drew Bledsoe, Charlie Weiss ( :blackdot: )....many others - have all gone on to be flops.

Graham was just another expendable piece of the puzzle. When used correctly, is a very solid player. He got his money, but he also got an unknown QB and like all high-profile signees, will feel building pressure to perform to justify the contract.

He may be the best blocking TE in the league, but Denver needs targets now.
