Whats the word on Ryan Grant? (1 Viewer)

The guy avg over 5.0 per carry last year/... i think he's a solid number 2 rb but seems like people just don't like him this year .

any reason why?

Flash in the pan.
This is the way a lot of people see him and I am not going to say there are wrong. He went undrafted and we only have 1/2 a season of data to look at in order to evaluate. He looked great when he played last season. Disclaimer: I have him paired with ADP on a recently drafted team.

I just don't believe he's legit. You look at how many people cam from out of nowhere to put up good numbers for nearly half a season, and then went back to nowhere. It happens all the time. Sometimes those guys latch on and continue the success, most of the time they don't. I like to point out more notable names. Kevin Jones, William Green, Julius Jones from recent years. They were drafted to be the main back for their team. Green was considered the identity of the Browns after he finished the season strong. That lasted all of 7 weeks the following season.

How about Samkon Gado, Nick Goings? Nobodies that found lightning in a bottle with the appropriate injuries/poor play of others. The next season...? Yeah.

Grant had a great season, on a great offense. My only issue, is I wonder how a Deshaun Foster would have done in the same offense. I'm not sold he would have sucked. Now, the only major turnover is Favre...but that is pretty major, eh? They drafted Brandon Jackson, who was pretty highly regarded. Many scouts and pundits said he'd have been the top Senior back had he stayed. (I'm not going to get into an argument on that, it's just something people were saying this time last year). He evidently had some talent. I think he'll eat into Grant's carries this year, and as outrageous as I know it sounds to the rest of the board, I don't expect Grant to enter 2009 as the starter.

Grant has great vision, burst, balance, and cutback ability. He hits the holes hard and decisively. I don't see much not to like in his game.

I think the fact that he was not a high pick is part of the reason some don't think he is for real, but in watching him play, he sure looks like a good one to me.

One big difference is that those players teams didn't give them 30 million dollar extensions after that season. That's pretty telling that the Packers at least expect him to be a stud.

I don't think it's hard to imagine Grant regressing. I think a lot of Grant's success correlated with Favre's near MVP caliber season. I can see Jackson playing enough that it hurts Grant's value. And I can see the Packers sucking on offense this year. All of those things scream risk at me. If you take him in the late first, the chances of him outperforming his draft status are pretty low, but the chances of him busting are pretty high. I'll pass, thanks.

What? Those guys certianly didn't "come out of nowhere".

Yeah, and on the other hand it worked out fine for Priest Holmes and Willie Parker. Don't base your argument on anecdotal evidence because there is always an anecdote ready to be thrown right back at you.

Well, say what you will. Grant certainly passed the "eyeball test" to me. He looked like a very talented back. I realize that is pure opinion though.

Not as much as you'd think, IMHO. It would have been "pretty major" 10 years ago, but 38 year old Brett Favre is not the same as 28 year old Brett Favre. Sure, he had a good season last year, but a lot of that can be attributed to the guys around him. The two years before he played very poorly when the team was bad around him. That's pretty much the definition of a mediocre QB, good when the team is good, bad when the team is bad. That's what Favre is at this point. He didn't suddenly physically and mentally return to his 28 year old state at the age of 38, when he was far from it at the ages of 36 and 37.

Bjax had his chance. Guys don't get drafted, get handed the keys to the feature back roll on a silver platter, fail to the point that the job is handed to someone else, and end up becoming a huge part of the offense again. At least, it hasn't happened yet. If you feel that Bjax is the guy to change history in that regard, then you must think very highly of him.
