What's up with the Vikings QB situation? (1 Viewer)

Per the blogger, Johnson isn't getting a raise, and may hold out. Other QBs on the roster are Mike McMahon, JT O'Sullivan, and Shaun Hill. Are these guys going to get a chance to play if Johnson goes down? Are any of them any good? McMahon sure didn't look like a starting QB in Philly...

At some point I'm sure the Vikings would like Tarvaris Jackson to take over.
Well yeah. But he's not going to be ready this year.
Agreed, but I don't see McMahon leading them to a winning season so some time during the season they might as well see what Jackson can do while they enter the Brady Quinn sweepstakes. ;) I don't think it will come to that though. At the latest, they'll come to their senses after the first preseaon game when they see how weak at QB they really are.

:bag: If (when) Brad Johnson misses games Vikings offense becomes really.. really bad.
Remember, BJ is playing behind 3 pro bowlers! So he should be a lock for 4000/30! :lmao: :lmao: This is just one more bad sign for a team looking at a tailspin into the top-5 of next year's draft.

Honestly, I like Mike McMahon a little more than most. He might be a marginal backup at best, but at least he can run a bit.

Hey pop quiz: How many pro pass attempts have JT O'Sullivan and Shaun Hill combined for over their four year careers?

That would be a big whoppin' 0.

You know, if I were BJ, I'd probably hold out, too. McMahon should be a decent backup, plus with a year in the Childress O, should be able to put up fair numbers if he's forced to play....

Problem for him is he had this same problem after he won the Super Bowl in TB. There was a lot of news about it, how he was actually getting a paycut (IIRC) rather than a raise.

Ending the year winning 7 of 10, including 6 in a row.... one could compare that to "leading a team to the Super Bowl" I guess (in his mind), and so thusly, since he sees the team drafting a QB in the first round next year, I'm sure he understands he only has one, maybe two more years as a starter.

I'd be asking for more money, too. It's not like they are going to head into the season with three career backups and expect to make a splash.

I feel bad for Zig. He takes over a team, makes two terrible trades, signs a bum RB and a bum coach, and gets progressively worse. It's like the man just can't catch a break.

Oh, and he changed the cherished Viking Logo with new, ugly horns.

Who is out there that they might possibly bring in at that point?

Kerry Collins comes to mind.

If I were Wilf I'd try to get McPherson from NO.

I don't like it that they changed from their tradition, and considering the real life vikings never did wear helmets with horns, but I do kind of like the new look. Same basic design with just a little more detail and a slight shift of the gold ring. It could have been a whole lot worse.

Collins came to my mind too, but even if he's in need of a job, it might be cheaper to just pay Johnson than it would be to sign Collins. And I'm not sure Collins would be any better. Not sure about McPhearson though. They already have a project QB, and I think Jackson will be ready before McPherson will be.

I don't think you wait until halfway through camp to bring in a QB as raw as McPherson. If they wanted him, the time to go get him was at the draft.

Maybe they should sign Kerry Collins.. Moss said he is better than CPep. :D :bag:

But I'm worrid if they did that his drinking problem might be contagious. :thesoundofKorenfallingoffthewagon:

Honestly the Vikes should give Johnson a break. They can free up any raise they give him effecting the cap when they cut him later once they have found or developed a replacement.

Right now there is nothing but scrubs backing him up.

Still don't like the Moss and CPep trades. :hot:
