Wheelhouse - Interesting Stats, Info and Tidbits

Thru Week 3

1. QB rushing is down. Way down - Mike Vick leads all QB's with 232 rushing yards on 27 attempts. The next closest in yards is Charlie Frye with 60 and attempts is Byron Leftwich with 16.

Vick has had 3 rushing gains of 20 yards or more, the only other QB that has any 20+ yard gains is Alex Smith with 1

Interestingly enough, it's Frye who leads all QB's with 3 rushing TD's. Leftwich is 2nd with 2. Vick only has 1.

38 different QB's have attempted at least one rush. I looked and could not find a QB that has not attempted at least one rush.

Drew Brees has 8 rushing attempts totaling -5 yards. His longest run is 1 yard.

The top QB rushers with at least 8 attempts are:

27 Vick

16 Leftwich

12 Frye

11 McNabb

10 Carr

10 Culpepper

9 A. Smith

8 McNair

8 Brady

8 Palmer

8 Brees

2. Interesting QB stat of the week - Every starting QB has at least 1 TD pass so far with the exception of the Raiders woeful tandem of Aaron Brooks and Andrew Walter and Ben Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger also has the most passing yards (349) without a TD pass.

3. Let's not throw Aaron brooks under the bus just yet - He hasn't thrown an INT this season - so far. ;)

8 total QB's without an INT (yardage leaders first)

814 yards Alex Smith

711 Marc Bulger

343 Phillip Rivers

273 Damon Huard

209 Charlie Batch

68 Aaron Brooks

20 Bruce Gradkowski

5 Brian Griese

4. Can you tell which QB is David Carr and which is Matt Hasselbeck?

QB A: 61 of 90 for 658 yards, 6 TD, 5 INT - sacked 8 times, 88.1 QB rating

QB B: 59 of 82 for 635 yards, 6 TD, 1 INT - sacked 10 times, 113.6 QB rating

If you guessed David Carr was QB B - you're right! Impressive huh?

5. Did you know - The Chargers are the only team that has not been sacked yet? (granted they've played only 2 games)

6. Gettin' it done without the yardage - Houston, Cincinnati and Seattle are the only teams with an average of 200 yards passing per game or less that have 6 total TD passes. No other teams in that category even have 4 TD passes.

7. Those who get the carries will reach paydirt - Every RB with at least 20.0 carries per game has at least 200 yards rushing on the season except Larry Johnson (only 2 games so far), Shaun Alexander (injured) and Thomas Jones.

Carries per game leaders - followed by rushing yards

* only had 2 games

*25.0 Tomlinson - 202

25.0 C. Taylor - 275

24.3 Rudi Johnson - 288

23.7 McGahee - 311

21.3 F. Taylor - 243

21.0 W. Dunn - 310

20.0 T. Jones - 181

7. RB's with less than 20 carries per game that have 200 yards rushing or more

295 T. Bell, 19.3 carries per game

256 Westbrook, 14.7 carries per game

234 J. Lewis, 19.3 carries per game

225 T. Barber, 17.7 carries per game

218 McAllister, 17.7 carries per game

215 A. Green, 19.3 carries per game

8. Reason to be concerned? Edgerrin James is the only RB in the top 14 in rushing yards that has not had at least one gain of 20 yards or more. His longest run from scrimmage is only 14 yards

Longest runs from scrimmage (RB's) 3 of the top 7 are *non-starters.

*73 M. Turner

71 Westbrook

58 Tomlinson

39 T. Bell

37 S. Jackson

*36 M. Bell

*34 M. Anderson

33 C. Taylor

32 Parker

32 Gore

30 Dunn

30 Portis

29 K. Jones

27 J. Lewis

27 R. Brown

27 Maroney

27 Gado

9. Surprisingly, no RB's have more than 3 rushing TD's in 3 games so far. Those with 3 include: Rudi Johnson, Westbrook, Gore, Tomlinson, Portis

10. The Falcons are averaging more yards per rushing attempt than they are per pass attempt.

Rush 5.9

Pass 4.6

5.2 per play total

Still not as bad as Oakland - - - 2.7 yards per play :X Every other team in the league has at least a 4.1 yard per play average.

Highest - PHI 6.7

Lowest - OAK 2.7

11. This may be interesting, or it may not - Stat of the week - In all 3 games for Carolina so far this season, there have only been 17 3rd downs converted - this includes only 7 the Panthers have converted offensively and the 10 their defense has allowed. In contrast Colts games have yielded 43 3rd downs converted. 26 offensively and 17 allowed defensively.

12. Did you know - Amani Toomer is 4th in the NFL in receptions (20), but 27th in the NFL in receiving yards per game (69.0)

13. Deja Vu? - Just as there were no RB's with more than 3 rushing TD's so far, the same holds true for WR's. No WR has more than 3 TD receptions. In fact, only two WR's have at least 3 TD's - Amani Toomer and Darrell Jackson.

14. Can you stop 85? - Chad Johnson's longest reception so far is 18 yards. All of Cincinnati's WR's have a longer catch than Chad so far. Even Tab Perry (30 yards) has grabbed one for more yards than Chad.

Bengals longest catches

43 Henry

30 Houshmandzadeh

30 Tab Perry

22 K. Washington

18 C. Johnson

15. The WR stat of the week - Of the teams that have played 3 games so far, the 1-2 Steelers are the only team not to have at least one WR with 100 yards receiving. In case you're wondering, Heath Miller has 146.

16. Tight Ends that are leading their team in receiving yards or receptions

* Only Ben Watson leads both

H. Miller, PIT 146 yards

K. Winslow, CLE, 19 receptions

LJ Smith, PHI, 16 receptions

*B. Watson, NE, 11 recpetions, 143 yards

A. Crumpler, ATL, 9 receptions

T. Gonzalez, KC, 12 receptions

A. Gates, SD, 6 receptions (tied/McCardell), 81 yards

17. Target Stats - 10+ targets in week 3 (consecutive weeks with 10+ targets in parenthesis)

14 S. Smith

13 Holt (3)

13 Coles (3)

13 Muhammad

13 A. Johnson

13 L. Evans

12 Harrison (2)

12 Boldin (2)

12 Fitzgerald

12 Crumpler (TE)

11 Roy Williams

11 Heap (TE)

11 Watson (TE)

11 E. Johnson (TE)

11 Berrian

11 R. Brown

11 Gabriel

11 Ma. Clayton

11 H. Ward

10 Houshmandzadeh

10 Bennett

10 Colston

18. Trivia - Marvin Harrison is the only player with 30+ targets that does not have a TD

19. More trivia - Only 1 WR has just 1 target, that was a TD catch, can you name him? [Updated - The answer is Brandon Stokley

20. Well over pace to break the record of most 50+ yard FG's - John Kasay is on pace for 16 FG's of 50 yards or more. He already is a perfect 3/3 from 50+. The record is 8 by Morten Andersen (ATL) in 1995

21. Janikowski and/or Rian Lindell looking good this week - Opponents have made 9 FG (3 per game) against the Vikings and Browns so far this year. Minnesota plays Buffalo (Lindell) and Cleveland plays Oakland (Janikowski).

Oops, MIN played CHI week 3 and BUF this week. Fixed to reflect Rian Lindell instead of Gould.

Not a reason to be concerned. In Edge's most productive season, his longest run from scrimmage was just 30 yards. In only two of his 7+ seasons has he broken a run longer than 40 yards (and one of those was a mere 43 yards). Arizona ranks 29th in the league when it comes to breaking long runs. 98% of Arizona's rushing yards have come within 10 yards of the LoS- Tennessee, NYJ, and Oakland are worse, with 99% of their rushing yards coming within 10 yards of the LoS. Of course, this isn't cause for concern, because that's been Edge's Modus Operandi for most of his career (ever since the ACL injury). Over the past 4 seasons, Indy has ranked 32nd, 27th, 30th, and 29th in terms of percentage of yards coming 10+ past the LoS.To show that Edge is still Edge, Arizona currently ranks 3rd in terms of lowest percentage of runs that go for 0 yards or negative yardage. That's an Edgerrin hallmark- last year, Indy ranked 1st in that statistic, while Arizona ranked dead last.

SSOG - Interesting. Where did you find/come up with that stat?
