Wheelhouse - Interesting Stats, Info and Tidbits

Thru Week 9

1. 0.3% INT percentage - Marc Bulger is 3rd in the NFL with 290 pass attempts. He has only thrown 1 interception.

Also worth note...

Damon Huard also has only 1 interception in 203 pass attempts (0.5%)

2. How good is Damon Huard?

Yards per attempt - Leaders (minimum 200 attempts)

8.35 McNabb

8.15 P. Manning

8.00 D. Huard

7.93 Bulger

7.77 Brees

7.60 Roethlisberger

7.35 Kitna

He's in some pretty good company here. Also, the fact that Roethlisberger is here shows that he's still doing well - It's just those 14 INTs have killed him and his team, for that matter.

3. The Patriots, Brady and their short passing game - The list of QB's below have all had a passing play longer than Tom Brady this season.

Brian Bollinger

Andrew Walter

Seneca Wallace

Chris Simms

Bruce Gradkowski

JP Losman

Kyle Boller

Matt Leinart

Alex Smith

Charlie Frye

Charlie Batch

Damon Huard

Tony Romo

4. Titans fans - I've got a useless stat for you...

Vince Young has only been sacked 7 times this season  That's not what I'm getting at though. In the times he was sacked, he's only lost an average of 3.4 yards per sack.

Let's compare that to Andrew Walter and the Raiders...

27 other QB's have attempted more passes than Andrew Walter's 183. He's been sacked 37 times, which is 8 more than the next closest QB (C. Frye, 29 sacks). And Frye has attempted 83 more passes than Walter. By the way, Walter's average yards lost per sack is 5.4. The leagues worst is Matt Hasselbeck with an average loss of 8.2 yards per sack.

5. I've never tried compiling this stat before, until today - Brad Johnson currently is at a rate of 405 yards passing per TD pass - worst in the NFL.

6. Along the same lines, sorry Titans fans - Vince Young throws an INT every 108 yards passing - worst in the NFL. Compare that to Marc Bulger's 2300 yards passing per INT. :excited:

7. 10 reasons why the Raiders just might be the worst team in the NFL, without mentioning Art Shell

1. Only team with less than 1000 yards passing

2. Overall 47.4 QB rating (worst in the NFL)

3. Been sacked 44 times - 2nd worst has been sacked 29 times (CLE)

4. Only team with less than 2000 yards of total offense (1823) 2nd worst is TB (2004 yards)

5. Only team with less than 100 points scored

6. 112 total first downs - fewest of all teams

7. -9 turnover ratio. Only PIT is worse with -11

8. 136.4 yards rushing allowed per game - Only 5 teams allowing more (STL, CLE, NYJ, TEN, IND)

9. 19 FG made by their opponent - tied with WAS for most FG allowed in the NFL

10. 44 times punted - Only 5 teams have punted more (BUF, BAL, CAR, TEN, TB)

8. Hey, did you know - we've only had 3 TD's on kickoff returns so far. That seems kinda low to me. The Jets have had 2 and the Redskins had 1. The teams that allowed those - DAL, CLE and IND

9. FYI for those looking to decide which team defense/ST to start - The Eagles, Cardinals and Browns have each allowed 4 TD that were returns from an INT, fumble, kickoff or punt. That leads the NFL.

10. I bet you didn't know this - I wonder if this has happened before?? No RB with more than 100 rushing attempts is averaging 5.0 yards per carry or more. Brian Westbrook is very close, averaging 5.2 ypc, with only 97 attempts. LaDainian Tomlinson is averaging 4.9 yards per carry on 168 attempts

11. Speaking of Tomlinson - He is 6 points behind the total scoring leader in the NFL this season. If he can manage to overtake Robbie Gould, it will be the 2nd consecutive season in which a position player led the NFL in scoring. I am not sure, but I don't think that has happened before. (2005 S. Alexander topped Jay Feely 168 to 148).

2006 total scoring leaders

90 points - Robbie Gould

84 points - LaDainian Tomlinson

78 Points - Nate Kaeding

76 points - Jeff Wilkins

66 points - Larry Johnson

12. Even more on Tomlinson - LT has 12 rushing TD's which equals the total combined effort of rushing TD's from three of the four leaders in rushing yards this season and Tomlinson is other one of the four.

Rushing Leaders & Rushing TD's

830 Barber - 1

828 Tomlinson - 12

816 L. Johnson - 9

708 C. Taylor - 2

13. In case you wondered...

Yards per carry

4.5 Tatum Bell

4.4 Mike Bell

Rushing TD

3 Mike Bell

2 Tatum Bell

Fumbles Lost

1 Tatum Bell

0 Mike Bell

14. If you like Javon Walker, you might like some of these other WR's :D - Javon Walker had a 72-yard run for a TD against PIT last week. Other WR's with a rushing TD this season include... (2 of which are on Carolina)

Steve Smith (24 yd)

Reggie Brown (15 yd)

Devery Henderson (11 yd)

Keyshawn Johnson (4 yd)

15. I don't want to jinx Andre Johnson, but - If something happened to him, Kellen Winslow would have a shot at leading the NFL in receptions come seasons end. When was the last time a TE did that?

Receptions leaders

65 A. Johnson

52 M. Harrison

51 K. Winslow

19. Who's playing well?

Steven Jackson - 16 receptions, 188 yards receiving last 2 games

Larry Johnson - 459 yards rushing, 6 rushing TD last 3 games

LaDainian Tomlinson - 570 total yards, 7 total TDs last 3 games

Tony Gonzalez - 17 rec, 317 yards, 2 TD last 3 games

Adam Vinatieri - 9 FG, 8 PAT last 3 games

20. Atlanta is still horrendous on defense

The Falcons have allowed 1239 yards of offense in their last 3 games, including 95 points (31.6 ppg)

Week 9 DET, 30 pts

Week 8 CIN, 27 pts

Week 7 PIT, 38 pts

Week 6 NYG, 27 pts

21. Did you know? In last week's game SF vs. MIN, Chester Taylor was the leading receiver with only 45 yards. That's the fewest yards recieving for the leader in receiving yards in a game this year. The rushing equivalent to that (fewest yards rushing for the leader in rushing yards in a game this year) was also ironically 45 yards by Corey Dillon against the Dolphins in week 5.

22. Because you just wanna know- Stats on Monday Night games

224 yards passing = average yards passing for the game leader in Monday Night games this year

92.5 yards rushing = average yards rushing for the game leader in Monday Night games this year

87.0 yards receiving = average yards receiving for the game leader in Monday Night games this year

100-yard rushers on MNF Only 3

138 M. Morris week 9 vs. OAK

131 Tomlinson week 1 vs. OAK

114 T. Barber week 7 vs. DAL

100-yard receivers on MNF Only 1

136 Boldin week 6 vs. CHI

300-yard passers on MNF Only 1

372 Brady vs. MIN week 8

As always, fantastic stuff, a favorite part of my week.

As for the TEs leading the league in catches, Tony Gonzalez did it in 2004 (102 catches, Mason next with 96). Prior to that it goes back to Todd Christensen, 95 catches in 1986. Christensen also did it in 1983, and now I realize maybe you were just making a cute link to the two Winslows, as papa did it in 1981 and 1980. Nice ; )

Sort of kills the "play your guys on MNF because they bust out in primetime" buzz.

:o Never looked at it this way, great stuff!

Wheel, Great stuff as usual. I noticed one minor typo however.

Never read this before because I didn't know what it was but I will be reading them in the future. Guess I just like these interesting fact and stats.

Good stuff

Good stuff every week Wheelhouse, always fun reading. I think you should try to come up with a new stat to measure each week.

No typo there, but it is a bit confusing. What he's saying is the top 3 other rushers in yards besides Tomlinson have the same amount of total rushing TD's as he does.LT = 12 TD

Tiki 1 TD +

LJ 9 TD +

C. Taylor 2 TD

=12 TD

Todd Christensen in 1983? That'd be my guess. EDITED: He also led the league in receptions in 1986. 1983 was an odd year for TEs. The TOP 3 in receptions that season were all Tight Ends:

T Christensen 92

O Newsome 89

K Winslow 88

??? Ben Coates 96recpt (1994) :dunno:edit: nope... just looked it up. Coates was 4th in receptions in 1994 (C Carter, J Rice, T Mathis were all ahead of him. Carter tallied 122)
