When Benson Gets Released (1 Viewer)

Lots of guys get second chances in sports.

I suspect with two DUI's Benson will get released and will be given a 4 game suspension.

Travis Henry was on his last legs with the Titans and then the Broncos signed him. Does anybody think Benson will get another minimum salary shot in the NFL?

Could a change of scenery change anything?

Hard to believe he could be out of the league after just 3 years, but I guess it's possible

Difference: Henry is a good running back

Too many character issues and not enough talent to off-set them...when hes released, hes done.

Theres way too much talent in the FA Pool to bring in a Risk / Cancer like Benson.

His only chance is for a couple of key injuries during the season

A first round pick will always get another shot. When that pick is a RB coming from a team with a terrible line....it's practically a gimme that somebody will give him that shot.

Even if he's as bad as most of the SP thinks he is...he'd still be better then the majority of third string RB's in the league, making him an even better risk on a low base salary, high incentive contract for another team.

Chicago will probably let him go because they are paying him far too much money to justify his production and troubles, but that won't be the case with the next team to sign him.

Only issue with this is that most 3rd RBs will be solid special teamers and good practice/scout team players. Benson is a lazy headcase. I don't disagree that he'll get a shot somewhere, but unless his work ethic improves, he won't last long as a bench player in the NFL.

He doesn't have the talent to overcome the fact that he has no heart. Maybe someone gives him a chance as a backup, but I doubt he ever becomes a starter. He's simply not reliable.

He ran horribly last year often going sideways and avoiding contact. The Bears would pay most of his salary so anything's possible.

No heart, no desire and no brains.

:lmao: It would not surprise me to see some kind of Goodall punishment getting handed out here after the dust settles. Both to Benson and to whatever team that would be interested in signing him. Back-up is his upside, CFL is more likely. He was a ##### when he was a RB2, so that's not in his favor either...

Benson will get another shot. Whether that is for a starting position or not should be the real question. The guy is young and is an athlete - 4th leading all time rusher in state of Texas High School Football and drafted by the Dodger's.

He wouldn't be the first player to fail miserably with his first team only to succeed somewhere else.

If the Bear's cut him, it might be the best thing for his career/life.

Is he close with RW (I know RW was invited to be on his boat)? Not that Ricky does not have his own issues to deal with, but if Ronnie Brown had a set back, I could see the possibilty of his landing in Miami under those circumstances.

God I hope so - if not, what will the SP possibly do to fill the time and energy currently dedicated to Ced?
Probably shift focus back to the Pats. :pickle: (God I hope not)I wish Benson the best. I held on to him longer than I should. I do think some teams coaching staff will be convinced that they can cure him and make him into the next great feelgood comeback story.

This guy is SO done. Stick a knucklehead fork directly in him. He's a scrub ball carrier with apparently no brain. I can see one of the more horrible teams possibly extending him the last chance olive branch. But I really think at this point that's a thin, thin possiblity. He'll make like Ryan Leaf now and be just another cautionary tale. With about $20mil in the bank. Too funny.

Tampa Bay doesn't seem to mind bringing in players with baggage (Antonio Bryant, Jerramy Stevens, David Boston in 2006 and 2007), and their RB corp of Graham (not showing up due to contract issues), Dunn (33), Bennett (yawn) isn't rock solid. They seem like the sort of team that would take a shot on the cheap.

That is just amazing. The NFLPA will get that whole rookie thing straightened out for the next CBA. No doubt. That is fiscal insanity. A rookie who has proven nothing is making more money than Tom Brady (Matt Ryan). Total B.S.

He hasnt been convicted of the DUIs so dont expect the league to suspend him yet, if at all. The Bears could suspend him instead of releasing him.

If released, someone will definately pick him up. An alcahol problem isnt treated the same as a drug problem. This is a league where a lot of players have DUIs and too many have domestic violence on their record sheets yet they are still under contract. Benson's main problems are alcahol and stupidity by birth. The stupidity is easily forgiven and alcahol is highly tolerated.

No one should but someone will. Leaders are Texans, Bengals, Bucs.
Browns, Jets, Giants, Broncos, Packers, Lions, Titans, Seahawks, Bills. Plenty of teams should at least have interest. He might be able to get a multi-year deal with incentives or he could take a one year low salary deal. Either way, the contract will make him prove himself.

It's being reported he didn't show up for OTA today and the Bears are going to make a statement on Benson later in the day. Possibly to be released! :lmao:

Bad Report here, ESPN blows.New report from Chicago Sun Times

Benson sent home from OTA; Bears to make statement Cedric Benson showed up for work this morning at Halas Hall and was told to go home by coach Lovie Smith. Jerry Angelo said the team will have something to say later. Asked if he meant sometime today, Angelo said, ``In all likelihood.’’ It's unclear whether this means the team plans to release the embattled Benson.

Cedric Benson showed up for work this morning at Halas Hall and was told to go home by coach Lovie Smith.

That’s what Benson’s attorney Sam Bassett said.

I know that he went to practice today and Lovie told him to go home," said Bassett, based in Austin, Texas. ``I don’t know if it’s because of the publicity or because it’s a distraction, or if the Bears are trying to decide what to do. He’s just kind of waiting to see what they tell him and what they are going to require of him.

``His agent and business manager are doing some stuff with the Bears that I am not privy to. He knows the Bears may release him. He hopes they don't. He knows he screwed up

RW is an example of where his talent kept him in the game over his character issues.

Just a matter of time before hes released

Again, when you produce on the field. It's not like Benson's off-field problems made him sucktastic on the field. His complete lack of fire, work-ethic, and speed made him suck on the field.

RW has talent. Benson doesn't.
