When do the times for the playoffs come out? (1 Viewer)

Probably shortly after the last NFC seed has been won. Odds are if Dallas makes it, they would give them the late game on Saturday so they would on in prime time.

They stagger the schedules (usually) in one of two ways:4:30 Sat - AFC

8:00 Sat - NFC

1:00 Sun - NFC

4:00 Sun - AFC

or vice versa (flip the AFC / NFC spots).

They also typically use geography / logic to help set the schedule. Since there will be 4 east coast (time zone) teams hosting, it is up to the NFL to pick.

With the NYG playing Saturday (12/31), they likely will also play Saturday.

My guess:

Saturday:

NYG host at 4:30 (vs. Carolina)

NE host at 8:00 (they love NE at night) (vs. Jax)

Sunday:

Cincy host at 1:00 (vs. Pitt)

TB host at 4:00 (vs. Wash / Dal)

Saturday, January 7

4:30 p.m. (ABC) - Dallas (9-6) or Washington (9-6) at Tampa Bay (11-5)

8:00 p.m. (ABC) - Jacksonville (11-4) at New England (10-6)

Sunday, January 8

1:00 p.m. (FOX) - Carolina (11-5) at N.Y. Giants (11-5)

4:30 p.m. (CBS) - Pittsburgh (11-5) at Cincinnati (11-5)

Cool. I was just hoping the Pats wouldn't be the late game Sunday. Gonna be cold there Saturday night though. Gonna freeze my butt off.

Man, the NFL really loves the Giants this year, don't they? They give them an extra home game and then they get an extra day off for their first playoff game (why wouldn't they give them the Saturday game since they just played on a Saturday in week 17?).

 doesn't the day of rest help their opponents just as much? In fact wouldn't they actually need it more since they played today?

Huh??They would have killed them at home, "extra home" game makes no diff.

They play on Sunday because they are the higher seeded, some things you earn in football, just like real life, and they may not seem fair but that's how it goes homer

Higher seed really doesn't matter. The NFL makes that call, be it 3 or 4 seed, on Sat or Sunday.I am surprised as well that they don't play on Saturday. They would have had the full 7 days off, whereas the Panthers would have had just 6 (and a 1/2 considering they took the second half off against Atlanta).
