When is Barber III going to over take JJ? (1 Viewer)

Julies Jones has struggled badly this pre-season and Barber III looks like the better back in the offense. When does Parcell make the switch? I'm saying week 5 if that long!! You can just see Parcel's is losing his confidence in Jones, and we all know he has soime serious Man-Love for Barber III?

I think the plot will thicken when Dallas has its bye in Week 3. In Jones' defense, the O-Line was just terrible last night. The Minnesota D was really getting to him once he was handed the ball. I don't think Barber's stats would have been any better had he been getting the carries that Jones did last night.

I'm looking through the boxes this morning and notice yet again that Barber outran J. Jones. So I looked through the game logs and noticed that Jones played the entire 1st half and Barber played into the 1st few plays into the 4th qtr when most teams had their starters either in street clothes or one series and done. I started to wonder why Parcells would play them so much when it seems like a perfect game to have Ty Thompson run the ball for 3 qtrs. Maybe it's because Bledsoe got injured and wanted them to get time to play with Romo (most likely), maybe he wants to try and get the offense in rhythm or maybe he wants to see who's gonna be his main ball carrier (less likely).

To say JJ has been unwhelming in the preseason is an understatement. Through 4 games he's carried 43 times for 97 yards and 0 tds (2.25 ypc). Barber on the other hand ran for 36-161-1 (4.47 ypc).

I haven't heard anything out of Dallas (besides TO all the time) about the RB situation and I know the plan was/is to have JJ run on 1st/2nd down and Barber on 3rd/short yardage/receiving downs but do any Dallas homers see this possibly changing?

Regardless, anyone that hasn't drafted yet I'd avoid JJ like the plague. I thought this to be the case in the offseason but believe it more firmly than ever that JJ has very little upside and a good chance, due to injury/poor play, to be replaced at some point this season by the guy that's been breathing down his neck since last season.

lol, just posted a similar thread 2 seconds ago.....

I got MB3 @ 9.03 in a 12 team redraft last night. I can obviously wait for him to get the job.

He looks like a potential stud on a good team for the second half of the year!

Dallas is built to win this year, not rebuild, so Parcells will go with whoever gives him the best chance to win. My guess is that means he will use both all year if both are healthy, just like last year. I've seen no indication to the otherwise. Best chance for MB3 to get the majority of carries is if JJ misses games.

Keep in mind the point about playing against backups vs starters - it's not exactly an apples to apples comparison.

Agreed but JJ was playing against backups last night and looked equally as bad. Minn isn't exactly known for it's vaunted run stopping defense. Plus, last year in the regular season when Barber was the starter he put up respectable numbers so it's not as if he can't run against a 1st team offense. Your point of Dallas being built to win this year is a good one and if JJ struggles I could definitely see his role continue to increase. The 1st few games will be critical for JJ IMO since he's done nothing to distance himself in the preseason.

WATCH THE GAME! Julius was getting creamed behind the line off scrimmage. Whenever he had some decent blocking, he looked good.

:goodposting: While it's helpful to look at the stats, sometimes it doesn't tell the story the same way. Last week Thomas Jones looked decent against the Cards - but then got mobbed on a pitch play by 3 Cardinals for a 6 yard loss - bringing is avg. YPC way down (he had a few 3 yarders and a 6 yarder up to that point.) If you watched the game you realized he looked healthy and seemed to be running fine. If you looked at the less-than-overwhelming stats you might be tempted to think he was still hurt. Also, as already mentioned, playing against #1s and against #2s is quite different. One of the things that impressed me about Matt Leinert's performance against the Bears (last week) was that he was doing it against most of their #1 defense.

agreed. I see this as more of an RBBC than most people think.

IMO Jones is a better pure runner and the homerun threat. As long as he is effective he will be the guy, it is as simple as that. MB3 is a good player and will have a major role in the offense as well. They are going to run the ball over 500 times this season. So MB3 will get at least 150 carries. If Jones struggles then he will lose his job. It is not rocket science. If you believe Jones is better you grab him. If you feel Barber is better you got yourself a value if he takes over. Jones is going in the 3rd round of 12 teamers and rightfully so. Until he proves he can stay healthy and fight off Barber he is nothing more than a decent RB2( with huge upside) at this point. Whomever is the primary back will reap the rewards. So far it seems Parcells still believes Jones to be the star back otherwise he would be starting Barber who is a little more well rounded in the passing game and short yardage.

Put them in Denver and Barber is M. Bell/C. Cobbs and Jones is T. Bell. Sure looks to me that Barber should be the one pounding it and the quicker Jones should be used in 3rd down/Passing situations with his quickness and slashing ability. JJ really seems to go down on first contact alot.

I don't know about that. They have raised a few eyebrows from me this preseason. Even the announcers during the game said Parcells commented on the quality of the front they would face in the Minny game as opposed to their last game. I also remember thinking Baltimore should have had a better showing in the running game against them last week. Maybe their front isn't too bad, wish it was I have Barber.

Parcells is the wild card. He's been iritated with JJ for the past year due to JJs inability to stay on the field. Barber, on the other hand, has rapidly become one of his guys. I don't think you'll ever hear Tuna annoint Marian as the starter, but you're going to gradually start seeing him get about 60% of the snaps

i'm not sure how you could tell. watching the replay now and i haven't seen a single carry where he had decent blocking or any room to run. he did have a nice run after a catch.

The words Vikings and defense are no longer polar opposites. :football:
