When playing match-ups, how much do you rely (1 Viewer)

For example, let's say you have 3 pretty good running backs but 2 of them have harder games. The back with the easier game, though, is the less talented of the 3 and on the worst offense of the 3. When something like this happens, are you more inclined to go with your gut, or rely on someone else's rankings, like Footballguys?

Rule #1: Never ever use FBG's rankings.

I use all available info. I make my gut decision and then review FBG's info. More often than not my guy jives with their listing but in the instances it doesn't I think a little more about the matchup. Often times I stick with my initial decision but sometimes I'll change it. In the end it's not rocket science.

I agree. It's a situation that I expect to deal with frequently this year at RB, where I my top 3 are FWP, Caddy, and T. Jones. Immediately following my draft, as soon as I looked at the Week 1 schedule, I knew what was coming.

Match-up info. isnt as useful early in the season because we dont know who really is good against the run/pass just yet. Lots of change year to year on who are the better defenses. That being said, pay attention to match-ups and go with your gut at this point. By week 5 or so I rely more heavily on where defenses are ranked (not FBG's or any other FF site's rankings mind you).

Not to make this a WDIS, but to give you an example, my guys this week that make me think about this question is Stephen Jackson against Denver, Willie Parker against Miami, and Reuben Drueghns against New Orleans. Most people would say Jackson and Parker, but they have tough match-ups, and Reuben should beat up the Saints, even though he plays on the Browns.

See what I mean?

I refer to FBG's alot but my gut over rules any hesitation I have with their rankings. I DO NOT use CBS.Sportsline rankings at all! I like the sporting news as well. So I guess I "average" it out between FBG's, the sporting news and my jolly gut.

When you look at rankings from any site they vary quite a bit. For example. One site has Jeff Wilkens the #3 ranked kicker for the week, another had him #29.  Use rankings as a basic guide..make your own decisions.

So what are you doing this week dapunisher?I'm in the same sorta boat except I've got Rudi, FWP and TJ.Rudi is a lock every week, but the other two I'll likely go with the match-up.I'm leaning towards TJ this week...

Why? I remember a couple of years ago there was a weekly contest where hundreds of posters gave their rankings (I think they had to submit 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 QB, 1 DEF, 1 PK each week, can reuse players). At the end of the year the FBG rankings did #1 out of the hundreds of entrants.FBG rankings aren't always right but they seem to be better than anybody else's (including people in the shark pool).
