When political correctness collides (1 Viewer)

I thought you and the previous poster were suggesting this was just a Kings/California thing aimed at the Asian community in the area (that's certainly how the conversation sounds) and I was just pointing out that it's a coordinated leaguewide effort. I didn't mean anything more than that.
The t-shirts were just a Kings thing though, right?
I think everyone has to do something at a home game and they decide what to do. The Wizards wore special jerseys last night if you caught that ESPN game.

Here's a press release about a bunch of the stuff they're doing. Looks like maybe it wasn't every team? I dunno.
Sorry, I don't watch the NBA. Just simply not a fan. I would, though, have found a whole lot of respect for the owner of the Kings had he turned this situation into a learning moment for everyone rather than pandering to his star player's ignorance.
As someone who watches the NBA a lot, I can tell you that the Kings' owner would have to do a lot more than that to deserve anyone's respect. He's a disaster.

Also not to get into this again, but way more people are learning something about the Chinese New Year because of what the Kings did than if they'd just said no to Cousins and gone ahead with their plan ;)

Plus some kids in Africa probably got some free T-Shirts.

I didn't say that he should have gone ahead with it and just say no to Cousins - I said if he had turned it into a learning moment.

Put out a press release or something saying that while he has heard some trepidation about the shirts from those inside of his organization (no need to name names), he made a call to move forward with them anyway to show a sign of good faith to those in the Asian-American community who enjoy his product and who are about to celebrate the largest holiday in their calendar. Show why the shirts weren't in any way made to offend anyone of a particular race or creed, but rather to spread knowledge about a particular culture - so that more people can come to learn and grow from it (sorry, I'm not a professional press release writer, but I hope you get the idea).

Take a moment of trouble and turn it into a situation that brings people together, not tears them apart - you know, leadership.

"Sorry, Asians. Two black guys were offended by your holiday that is obviously not intended to be offensive. In order to make everyone happy, we've decided to not celebrate your holiday."

Besides the obvious risk of offending black people and the poor timing of doing so during black history month - I just don't get the particular hidden genius of incorporating the Chinese zodiac to attract Asian fans to basketball. who the heck thought this was a good idea?
Oh, it's a terrible idea. But it's not racist.
Apparently vegas gets this wrong too since tons of hotels on the strip have year of the monkey stuff everywhere.

Southwest airlines doesnt even fly to China and they sponsor the chinese new year parade, which is huge in San Fran.

Sounds like a terrible idea to try and lure over a billion people to like you.

Those two examples make sense. And LOL at "luring" - like Asians have never heard of gambling or San Francisco.
