I thought the games was on at 8:30 tonight... but just heard it was moved to 7 pm because of the Republican Party thing.

A little werid...

Kickoff Weekend primetime schedule includes Monday doubleheader

National Football League

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced the 2008 Kickoff Weekend national primetime television schedule on Monday.

For the fifth consecutive season, the defending Super Bowl champion will open the season by hosting the NFL Thursday night season kickoff. The 2008 regular season officially opens on Thursday, Sept. 4 when the New York Giants host the Washington Redskins at 7 p.m. ET on NBC.

The kickoff will be 90 minutes earlier than the start time of the traditional season opener due to the Republican National Convention.

It sucks. Anyone that wants to watch the convention has a dozen other channels to watch it.
It works for the East Coast. And I've been hearing recently that the East Coast Media control everything. :bs:
Yeah, darn that east coast media bias! How dare they cater to east coast viewers in a broadcast of a game between the Washington Redskins and the New York Giants! What are they thinking?

Doesn't everyone just DVR a game when there is only one going on anyways? (Thurs. night games, Sunday night games and Monday night games)

You tape it, stay away from ESPN or internet where you'd run into any updates, start watching it about 1.5 hours after kickoff, fast forward through all the commercials and little by little by the time you get to the end of the game it's basically in real time with the rest of the world.

It's really the only way to go.

Last night Tom Brokaw and Chuck Todd were talking about all the bias talk. Chuck Todd said it would be interesting if there was an outlet not based in NY or Wash. Olbermann said something like "What about Bristol?". At which point, Todd acknowledged the media bias in the whole country being subjected to so much Yankees-Red Sox coverage.

You West Coast boys get it easy the rest of the yr.

You don't have to wait till 1 pm on Sundays for your weekly fix, and you don't have to stay up till 12:30 to see the end of MNF everyweek.

I hate waking up at 9 am sunday morning and have to wait 4 hrs for my Football.... hate it

yea kinda lame. out here on the west coast it's at 4, obviously. i gotta work till 6. thank god for DVR! goodbye commercials!

It sucks. Anyone that wants to watch the convention has a dozen other channels to watch it.
I love it. Now I don't have to stay up until midnight watching the game.
 When I lived out in LA for a few months, I loved watching football. Monday night games were over around 9-9:30 and Sunday games were over at 4. It was weird, felt like you had a whole lot of time afterwards and a whole other day on Sundays, which I never had living on the East Coast my whole life. Also, being able to roll out of bed on Sunday morning and not have to wait a few hours for the games to start was awesome. Go to an early lunch/late breakfast and you are watching games.I don't understand why some West Coasters complain about early starts, I loved it. Games were over and you then had time to chill, go out, do whatever.

Yeah the Sunday Monday or just any night game needs to move up to 8pm Eastern time. It is just to late for the east coast. I mean come on west coast just miss the first quarter or dvr it. It sucks ### to have to stay up to 12:30- 1am and then have to get up @ 5-6 am.

Are you saying you can play fantasy football AND go to family BBQ's?

how late do they keep you in the coal mines in PA?
I have stuff I have to do in the early evening. By 8:30 I am ready to sit down and watch some football.I'll survive but I don't really get NBC's rationale here. There are quite a few networks carrying the convention but they are the only one broadcasting the game.

Awwwwwwwwww we on the east ESD feel bad for you guys. You have to dvr the game and have no commercials and have it over in 2 hrs. We feel as bad for you as you do for us when the games get over between 12-1 am

The Convention could have been moved any other night.... it could of been Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Friday / or Saturday.Football has been opening on Thursday nights for the past couple of yrs.... someone just messed up and they had to beg the commish to move their gametime.Did you hear that some Baseball game had to be resch. or moved to another stadium.

Because most of us dont get off work at 3:30 to drive home to watch a game at 4:00pm.

I think they figure the folks in Washington DC might be interested in Redskins and republicans.NFL's openning day is a big deal to them. I don't think they want to risk losing viewers or advertising money because of it.The Gmen are already less of a "darling" than most Superbowl Champs-few have them favorred to repeat. Somehow I think the NFL wished they had Favre and the Jets on instead.

i'll probably miss the first quarter myself, and it does seem a bit odd.but i guess i'd rather see the end of the game as the beggining.

I'll tell the Bar where 4 of us from our league are going to watch the game tonight to go ahead and DVR it for us. If the game was starting at 4pm est, you guys would be throwing a fit, the truth...

If a game between two west coast teams was starting at the time that was most convenient for west coast viewers, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't throw a fit.How dare the league and the network start the Redskins-Giants game at a time that allows young Redskins and Giants fans to watch it! You'd think they were trying to build a long-term fanbase or something.

Your priorities are a little a skewed are they not Godsbrother. :goodposting:

If you want to watch the RNC, plenty of networks cover that.

Shame on NBC although they have the least amount of junk on the screen when the RNC is running so I have been tuning in during the 10:00 hour...the cable networks just have too much crap on the screen to focus ont he candidates IMO.

The NFL isnt a regional sport. Like I said, if there was a game between the Chargers and broncos starting at 4pm est, plenty would be pissed off, not just west coast fans.

Actually, the real reason the game was moved is b/c it's the law. Network television (NBC, etc) has to give both political candidates the same amount of airtime during conventions. Therefore, seeing as NBC gave a certain amount of airtime to Barack at the Democratic Convention last week, they can't interrupt McCain at the Republican Convention this week. That's why they moved the game up, so it will be over by the time McCain goes on tonight

:lmao: I was talking about games in general, i.e., not tonight's game, which as has been pointed out is about as West Coast a game as BC vs. VTech. Do you West Coasters complain about Noon starts to College Football games? For Sunday games, you ain't working so no complaints there and Monday night games are on at 6:30ish when they actually start, so no issue there. Thursday nights are usually what 5:30? Suck it up and get your work done on time.

Apples and Oranges. DVR'ing a game so that a West Coaster can start watching it later, but still watch the end live is not equivalent to an East Coaster DVR'ing a game so that they can watch it the next day. The problem for the East Coast is the end time and the problem for some on the West Coast is the start time (which I think is great). The start time can easily be overcome by DVR and just skipping commercials/half time, but the end time cannot be overcome.

Barneys Beanery on SM BLVD on sundays for bloodys and breakfast and NFL was the bomb. I miss that. Now in San Diego, roll down to PB to your local team's bar. Plum Crazy for Bloodys and the Birds is fantastic. West coast rules for watching football, although the 4pm start-time today blows due to our stupid govt.

How so? Remember when they used to just switch the game over to the independent or WB channel when the president or wannabee president was on? No need to mess around with football because of any political dribble.

Sorry, I misunderstood you, I thought this thread was talking specifically about tonights 4pm start time. It is too early, and I think if most east coasters put themselves in the others shoes, they too would be unhappy with the start of the NFL season begining at 4pm local time. I want to watch my fantasy players too.

I think I'm going to move to Ohio. The central time zone has the best deal. 8-8:30pm...time enough to hang out and get the kids to bed and your sleeping by 11:30/12pm so you can get up and not be drooling at work.
