Given the current lockout situation, does anyone know if the NFL still intends to release the 2011-2012 game schedule in April as they have done in the past?
It's going to be 16 games. Bank on it. There won't be an 18 game season in place for a while, if ever. Assuming they get the deal done sooner rather than later due to the forced mediation, I'd say the schedule will be out by the end of April.
I have a sneaking suspicion if the Judge rules that the "lockout" is an anti-trust violation and we go back to last years rules, we will have an 18 game schedule. The Owners are already feeling like there is not negotiations or movement from the players side anyway. I have also read where multiple owners are so irate with what they feel is D Smith goal of going through litigation no matter what and declare the whole NFL system to be an under Anti-Trust violations.
I have read multiple times that the number of official games is not something the Union had any say over under the old CBA. The Owners just wanted the Players to agree. I can see the Owners saying, "screw you guys, one of the only things we can do without your (Union) input is whether a game is considered regular season or preseason" and just make it so.

Despite the lockout, they're still planning the 2011 season. They usually release it prior the the NFL Draft (and last year was quite late) but they still plan on sticking to that general timeline.LINK
