I remember the Kansas City Scoutsomahawildcat25 said:Kansas City or Omaha would be sweet.
Just heard a conversation on the radio a couple days ago talking about how much better the players coming out of college are these days which makes expansion viable.I've heard more than a few talking heads say that the NHL needs to pare down a few teams - not move some poorly attended one (or bring in new teams).
Given the draw of Ice Dogs and UAF games, I would disagree with Fairbanks. Anchorage should do well I think. Or at least better than Florida. You're close. Fairbanks is the answer. No schtick -- even with a metro area about the size of Halifax's (~400K), I bet Anchorage would support a team.I still say Alaska. That whole state is being neglected.Let's get a team in the Dakotas. Can't be worse than Miami, Phoenix, or Vegas.
I'm not joking. I was when I was talking about the NFL team going there, just because I wanted to see football played on a true frozen tundra. If the NFL can go to Europe, I think the NHL can go to Anchorage. I think it would be pretty cool to see a pro team up there. No schtick -- even with a metro area about the size of Halifax's (~400K), I bet Anchorage would support a team.I still say Alaska. They could play at the O.co Stadium.Oakland and we break out the Seals jerseys and the white skates again
Actually, Oracle Arena (home of the Warriors) is going to be vacant soon Perfect place for them. But the presence of the sharks in San Jose pretty much blocks out any NHL team there. They could play at the O.co Stadium.Oakland and we break out the Seals jerseys and the white skates again

No. I want them to play in that crappy falling down baseball stadium. I think that would be WAY cooler.Actually, Oracle Arena (home of the Warriors) is going to be vacant soon Perfect place for them. I changed my mind. Almost half of the states population is in the Anchorage area. You're correct.Given the draw of Ice Dogs and UAF games, I would disagree with Fairbanks. The Lightning had 18k last night. The Lightning aren't going anywhere. Top 10 attendance last year, great arena, fantastic ownership.Kind of surprising that hockey isn't popular in Florida.![]()
How are the Lightning doing?
I'm thinking these games could sell out every night. I guess the only problem would be players not wanting to live in Alaska.I changed my mind. they ever play hockey in Rogers Centre?I read or heard someone spitballing about a 2nd team in Toronto a few days ago. Their outlandish idea had MLSE (Maple Leafs owners) allowing a new Toronto expansion team (or relocated Panthers) to play in the Air Canada Centre, while they build a 30/35/40k seat arena to move the Maple Leafs to. Sure it would dwarf every other arena in the league, but Toronto fans (and as importantly corporations) would likely still fill it and the league owners and players would be happy to share an extra few hundred million dollars it would bring in.
MLSE probably has some cash lying around right now....maybe Bon Jovi can help finance a purchase of the Panthers instead of a certain NFL team...I read or heard someone spitballing about a 2nd team in Toronto a few days ago. Both cities support football teams despite their proximity. Why couldnt they both have a hockey team?Baltimore has a very anti-DC issue in just about every area of life. However, from what I understand, they do support the Capitals. Not sure if it's enough support, though, to support their own team. Nor do I know if it's so much support that you can't get enough fans to switch.
But, if Baltimore wasn't so close to DC, I think it would be a possibility.
I dont think having enough fans would be the problem. Any team in Alaska will have problems attracting players because nobody wants to live there even if it is just forbthe season.I'm not joking. Definitely enough people to do so.Both cities support football teams despite their proximity. Is there a newer facility than the old Baltimore Arena?Definitely enough people to do so.Both cities support football teams despite their proximity. Like I said, Baltimore has a big anti-DC thing going on. After the Colts left, nobody in Baltimore became a Redskins fan. They waited around for their own team to root for again. They simply don't root for anything DC. They hate DC. However, from what I understand, that's a little different when it comes to the Caps. I hear Baltimore actually supports the Caps and there's a decent fan base there. So, if they got a team, would Caps lose those fans? If so, then the Caps would fight it and claim Baltimore as their own market. If not, then would there be enough non-Caps hockey fans in Baltimore to support a team? I don't know.
Not that I'm aware of. So obviously a Baltimore team would want a new arena. Is there a newer facility than the old Baltimore Arena?Definitely enough people to do so.Both cities support football teams despite their proximity. Im sure that as long as there are enough fans of a particular sport many would switch to their new local team and stick with them as long as they are at least consistently competitive.Definitely enough people to do so.Like I said, Baltimore has a big anti-DC thing going on. What is a skipjack? And Baltimore already has a cool nickname from their previous minor league team: Skipjacks.
I'm not sure anyone thinks Alaska is really happening. But it would be cool if it did. It's kind of a shame that there are really so many good choices out there, but not enough talent to support that many franchises. Each one of those cities you've named could probably support a team very well.Seattle
Quebec City
2nd team in Toronto
those should be the top-3 choices, imo
then you have places like KC, Houston, Vegas, and Portland.
I don't think there's much interest in Milwaukee, and doesn't seem like Hartford is going to get a 2nd chance. Alaska isn't going to happen either. No real opinion on Baltimore, but I think the Caps fans were pretty terrible before Ovechkin showed up and they might not stick around that long anyway.

If they barely sold any tickets they should at least give enough away to avoid the embarrassment of a nearly empty arena.http://www.hockeydb.com/nhl-attendance/att_graph_season.php?lid=NHL1927&sid=2015
Panthers stopped giving away so many free tickets this year so their attendance numbers should tank even after the snowbirds show up.

I meant like the last day before the game. Try to get some bodies in the building so it doesnt look that bad. Not premium seats of course.no they shouldn'thow can you ever expect to sell tickets if half the people who show up got in for free?If they barely sold any tickets they should at least give enough away to avoid the embarrassment of a nearly empty arena.http://www.hockeydb.com/nhl-attendance/att_graph_season.php?lid=NHL1927&sid=2015

they've been trying to fill that place up for years by giving away tickets for free to anyone with a pulse. season ticket holders don't really appreciate that king of thing and it just cheapens the entire product.
all the free tickets they used to hand out make attendance figures meaningless.
real paid attendance > fake free attendance.

It's a question of having an arena and being too close to Vancouver. I think the people who could pay for a team and an arena really want a basketball team again. The arena is going to have to be dual purpose. I don't think there's enough drive in the city to fund a new stadium. Why is Seattle not a solution?Hartford is the only solution.
I don't think this is the case. First I've heard it raised as a concern anyway.I also think Seattle falls within Vancouver's range of influence, or whatever it's called. The new owners would have to pay additional money to the owners of the Canucks for coming into their market. Not sure how much this would be, but it is a consideration.
Yeah I agree. Hence the reason Tampa doesnt have an NBA franchise.I don't know if the Orlando-Tampa area is big enough to support two pro teams in any sport, but if they are I'm pretty sure that sport is not hockey.Orlando?
Plenty of open dates on the calendarKansas City built a new facility hoping to attract an NHL or NBA team. All we have in KC is our BBQ and sports teams.
