Where will Dom Rhodes end up? (1 Viewer)

There is no question that the Colts organization would like to retain Dominic Rhodes, but there are a number of teams who are likely to come calling. ... One team to keep an eye on is the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals will be in the market for a change-of-pace back because their own RB Kenny Watson is an unrestricted free agent himself. ... With the uncertainty surrounding the return of RB Kevin Jones for the 2007 season, the Detroit Lions are another team that could have an interest. ... According to a team source, the Rams will be in the market for a backup running back like Rhodes in free agency and the draft. Steven Jackson and Rhodes would make for a nice pair in the Rams' backfield. So add the Rams to the list of teams who will have their eyes on back.

NY Giants.
I was thinking that the other day actually after I heard all the Ahman Green to NY rumors. Dom Rhodes was the much better Colts' back during the playoffs and it would be a big mistake for them to let him go.
He certainly has the advantage of being a known quantity, however almost every team in the league has a RB of his caliber on its bench backing up a starter. The league is filled with Mewelde Moore's, Ladell Betts, Ryan Moats, Mike Bells, etc. type of players, in other words good-but-not-great RB's who, in limited action, can shine. That's not the kind of guy you overpay to keep, especially when it's the other side of the ball that needs help on that team.

Is Perry not supposed to be ready by the begining of the season?
Yeah...what he said...Isn't Perry the change of pace back in Cincy?
From bengals.comAs for the biggest question mark on offense, Lewis said third-down back Chris Perry is looking at “a long road” back from surgery for a broken fibula in which plates were inserted in his lower leg. Lewis said the Bengals won’t draft a speed back in response to Perry’s injury, but he acknowledged with Kenny Watson, the other third-down back, headed to free agency the Bengals have to make sure they have someone to back up Johnson.

That quote was from an interview Marvin Lewis gave last Friday. Lewis is notoriously vague with serious injuries but that sounds like Perry will have a hard time getting back in time for any off-season activities.

Regardless of how Perry's rehab progresses, the Bengals aren't signing Dominic Rhodes. They've long been on record, including within the interview above, as saying they're very unlikely to sign high priced outside free agents. No way they sign a player like Rhodes over keeping Justin Smith, especially when it's possible to address that need with a middle round draft pick in most seasons.

Yeah. Add to that that they could resign Watson at a fraction of the price of Rhodes. Why would they open up the wallet for Rhodes when Watson, who fits that role very well, could be had so much cheaper.

Watson may be a better receiver, but I think Rhodes is a better ball carrier. Watson's used more in the Kevin Faulk type of role and I think they want more of a second RB.

Yes, he changes the pace by actually being healthy for a few minutes. :goodposting:
But- but - but - he has so much talent.
Perry is probably my least favorite Bengals pick of recent memory. Not because he is always hurt. But, because the Bengals passed (by continuously trading down) on Steven Jackson and Kevin Jones. Some idiot in the Bengals scouting department actually thought Perry was the back to have. And, guys like Wilfork and DJ Williams were around in the hunt of their initial draft position too. That just totally mismanaged that first round - starting with the offseason big trade down with Denver to get O'neal of all people. :boxing:

Baltimore seems like a sensible fit, as a much cheaper and potentially just as effective alternative to Jamal Lewis. Detroit also seems likely just because they need a potential starting runner ASAP.

If I were a Rams fan I would definetly not want him. Jackson has emerged as one of the league's elite players, and getting a good backup to him is a luxury, not a need. They need to spend their money on defense, because I think their window to be a contender is still slightly open... but they need to hurry before Holt and Bruce get too old.

Stephen Davis will also be back next year for the Rams. No need here at all.

Baltimore likes to make a big deal now and then with their activities, and I think it'll be either Michael Turner or a draft pick like Michael Bush.
