I'd have said that last year, but the Soriano contract is looking so bad right now. Of course, he has had hot streaks in the past that he could potentially repeat, but he's a bad ball hitter and they just dont age well generally.

Zito's been pitching pretty well the last year and a half.
I agree, plus comparing pitchers to batters is kind of difficult. Personally, I could (better) live with a mediocre pitcher versus a mediocre batter in a situation like that.

When you consider markets, the Zito and Wells contracts are worse. In a vacuum, Soriano is starting to look like the worse bargain when you remember he is also a horrible left fielder.

I have to stick to my guns and vote Zito even though he's been pitching well lately.

1. He wasn't that great in the year before signing the big contract

2. A seven year deal for any pitcher is about two years too long

3. Something negative about Brian Sabean

Even when Soriano does something right, he does something wrong. Last night in New York against the Mets, he hit a ball off the wall in right center. Instead of running hard out of the box for an absolute sure standing up triple, he stood and admired the drive and had no chance of getting past second.
