As big as the Moss development is and how bad Childress is as a coach, the McNabb decision is easily the most ridiculous coaching decision I've ever seen. The reasons given and the timing of the decision are mind-boggling to me.

So, which is it for you?

its gotta be mcnabb. moss is the type of player where his potential highs are just as large as his potential lows and the vikings were suffering from the lows.

on the other hand mcnabb is just being exactly the player hes been for 11 years and the redskins gave up a lot to get him in the offseason.

But to answer your question, I've seen QBs of McNabb caliber benched for bad reasons before. I saw McNabb benched for bad reasons before (2008).

I've never seen someone like Randy Moss get cut. I've never seen any cut to the point where the waiver claim becomes a media event.

I voted for Moss being cut because I can't remember a team giving up a 3rd round pick for 4 weeks of play before. That's just ridiculous.

But the McNabb thing is a very close second. Having lived in Denver for all of the Shanny years, I know very well that he's considered a great coach by many. Shanny's problem has always been the fact that he starts to believe his own hype. He's too smart for his own good. This McNabb move is a perfect example. On what planet is is a good idea to bring in Rex Grossman, cold, for a game-on-the-line 2 minute drill, over *any* starting QB in the league? I really don't care what McNabb's conditioning or hamstrings are like. I doubt any other coach at any playing level would have done that. I would think virtually all football fans would know better. Just a really bone headed move.

Because it didn't work out. Was there zero probability that it would work out? No, it could have. The reality is that McNabb is not a good 2 minute drill QB. So Shanahan took a gamble and it backfired.

Oh, come on. Are you really saying that Rex Grossman is a better option then McNabb? In any situation?Maybe it didn't work out because Grossman is not a NFL starting caliber QB, was coming in cold and hasn't proven himself to be a good pressure performer. There is nothing about Grossman's skill set that says it's a good idea to bring him in for that situation. If Shanahan had a legit option to bench McNabb for, he probably would have already done it weeks ago. It makes no sense to say that McNabb is your guy to start the game but not the guy to finish it.He did take a gamble and it did backfire. I'm all for smart gambles. I don't see how anyone can call that move a smart gamble.
