I'm not sure you'll ever get a clear answer as nobody can be "both." I'm a bit of an introvert, and I can tell you that I hate unwanted social interaction much more than being alone. But I would expect to answer that way. I'm not a total hermit, but I'm completely content doing my own thing for days on end.

My wife is more social, and sitting around doing things by herself becomes intolerable very quickly.

I can't relate to her, she can't relate to me...but we both know how we are.

I'd say introvert also. For the socialite, they could always converse with imaginary friends. And the introvert might even find that it would help to break them out of their shell a bit when being forced to interact, so net gain.
