Which likely free agent (1 Viewer)

Despyzer

Lousy Attention Whore
1. Name your team.

2. Name the player you would like. Choose only from players who are likely to remain FAs (I imagine Briggs, Freeney, and Kerney are most likely to be franchised or re-signed). Consider RFAs (like Shaub and M. Turner) to be obtainable. This thread may help.

3. State why that player would be your top choice.

Feel free to make a ranked list if you like.

1. Lions

2. Many will say Curtis, I'd prefer Eric Steinbach

3. OLine is the most needed position

Giants

Nick Harper

Because he will be more reasonably priced than Clements and probably Samuel as well, but would still significantly upgrade what is probably the worst CB corps in the NFL. I don't think the Giants can really afford Clements, who is probably looking to become the highest paid CB in the NFL, and I am not sure Samuel is better than Harper. Even if they sign a good free agent CB, they still need to address this position in the draft.

2. Asante Samuel

3. Losing him would be devastating to our defensive backfield.

1. Redskins

2. Derrick Dockery, unless he wants big time money, then we might as well get Eric Steinbach.

3. keeping DD would be great for our offensive line consistency.

1) Patriots

2) Adalius Thomas

3) Huge LB with major versatility would be THE perfect fit for Belichick's D.

I'm not sure if Thomas qualifies as "likely to remain a free agent" because I've heard mixed reports of how likely he is to be franchised. I can hope, though...

STL Rams

Justin Smith DE

Bring home a Missouri guy and line him up on the other side of Leonard Little. We can then address a middle linebacker in the draft named Mr. Willis and hope Jimmy Kennedy can show us some sign of promise next year. I would of course love to get Freeney but he isn't leaving the Colts IMO.

1) Pats

2) Adaluis Thomas

3) BB's D is based around the LBs. If that unit is not solid it's an uphill battle. A big issue with this is the Pats look for very specific qualities at the position. The LBs need to be between 240-270, intelligent, be equally strong against the pass and run and have experience in the 3-4 and even if they do the Pats 3-4 is still different than the one they're used to. That means that quality LBs like Cato June are not fits for the Pats. It also means that most college LBs either don't fit this defense or will have a pretty substantial learning curve. On paper Thomas is exactly the cure to what ails the current LB unit. Add him and a lot of pieces fall into place for this defense. I like Asante Samuel a lot but I'd definetly let him walk if it meant getting Thomas. That's not a knock on Samuel just the reality that it's far more difficult to find high end LBs for this D than CBs.

1. J-E-T-S- JETS JETS JETS

2. Asante Samuel

3. Mangini knows him, we will take him away from the Pats and our biggest area of concern is the secondary (did you see Anquan Boldin school Justin Miller)

Pats

re-sign Samuel, trade Watson+re-sign Graham

Add Clements(good luck passing against them)

More reasonable-

Curtis

Lions

Asante Samuel

beyond a long shot i'm sure. bly is getting older and his days as a number 1 are numbered. bryant and wilson are better suited to nickel and dime. samuel would make me very happy. but i'm a lions fan so thats not allowed.

San Diego Chargers

Re-sign Kris Dielman

I really don't think there is much out there that is a drastic improvement over what the Chargers already have. Re-signing Dielman would mean 20 returning starters (with Edwards leaving and McCardell taking on a smaller role) for a team that finished 14-2, and almost the same roster that has won 35 regular season games over the last three years.

Secondary is a concern, and picking up a playmaking corner like Samuels would be a nice luxury, but Jammer is becoming a quality player and I have high hopes for Cromartie.

Wide Receiver could also be upgraded, but I would hate to dump a lot of money into that position considering the offense. Jackson looks to improve and Parker/Floyd as underrated 2/3.

The Chargers could also address RT. Olivea seems to be taking a step back every year. But I don't know if any of the guys out there (like Davis) are really that much better.

Linebacker is the only other position I'd be a bit worried about. Edwards is definitely gone, and Godfrey may not return (but probably will). Matt Wilhelm could fill in for Edwards, but that is obviously a step down. The Chargers can't really expect to compete for Adalius Thomas and most of the other FA LBs are either getting too old or aren't a good fit.

I figure A.J. will put almost all of his FA attention on seeing if Dielman can be convinced to return at a reasonable price. If he can't, I imagine he will address all five of these concerns in the draft. If he fails, they still have a highly competitive team.

I'd be pretty happy if the Bills could just keep all of their guys and add a mid-tier Offensive Guard. But it seems probable that both Clements and Fletcher-Baker are going to be gone.

But if I have my choice of guys out there, it'd probably be Asante Samuel. IMO, he's better than Clements and taking him from the Patriots would just be a bonus.

Pats fans are in full force here! lol

Like to see Samuel and Graham resigned.

Harper and Thomas would be nice additions.

The Pats need to strenghten up both the CBs and LBs

Broncos

Justin Smith or Patrick Kerney

The Browncos experiment is finished, time to bring in a STUD at the DE position. Smith fits that mold, but Kerney is just 1 step lower, so we'll take him as well.

Chiefs

Retain RFA DE Jared Allen

he and Hali became a lethal combo this season, Allen arguably should have been a PB'er. They need to make every effort they can to retain him.

Chicago Bears

RFA ORT Max Starks

The Bears are ancient on their O-Line and could use an infusion of some youth.

btw... Lance Briggs is going nowhere. The Bears have the 9th most money under the cap, and can EASILY afford Briggs. The fact that Urlacher and Hillenmeyer are signed for a few more years make it very feasible to tag Briggs the next couple of seasons if need be.

(For the purposes of this discussion, Freeney will be franchised so I'm not counting him as a FA - he'll be a Colt one way or another)

Colts

UFA Rob Morris (I can't believe I'm saying this)

Why? I think Cato June will be too expensive to keep, and Freddie Keiaho will have a good chance to be a pretty good replacement for June (before June was a starter, I thought he was just awful - and I didn't see any potential in him before 2005. At least I see potential in Keiaho, which gives me hope as a fan). I don't know if the Colts have a decent SLB to replace Morris, though, and Morris will be a lot cheaper to keep than June (the Colts need to find a long-term SLB in the draft).

I think Rhodes is a goner, also - and some team will pay more than the Colts want to keep him. I hope De De Dorsey or someone else will be able to fill Rhodes' shoes - the two-back system works. I assume Harper will be signed by someone else, and selfishly I hope it is with an NFC team, because he's a pretty good CB. The Colts will keep Jason David for another year as a RFA, so they should be OK there.

So, Morris gets my vote. I don't see the Colts signing another team's FA unless it is for cheap.

1. Texans

2. Various mid-level free-Agents

3. The Texans have a shortage of core NFL players. One big name signing will excite fans, but won't bring the team closer to being able to compete week-in week out in the NFL.

49ers

Adalius Thomas

I was on the Samuel/Clement bandwagon, but now that its gonna be a 3-4, Thomas is the perfect player to play opposite Manny Lawson. Versatile, strong agains teh run, excellent pass rusher, knows the system, Mike Nolan knows him from Baltimore....and hte Niners have $40M under the cap. Funny how times change.

Spencer is a good #1b CB, and Harris (not counting on a repeat of this year, but) is OK on the other side. Definately a need area in the draft.

Those guys would be helped immensely with some semblance of a pass rush. I don't think we've had a decent pass rush since Doleman/Barker lined up at end.

Packers

Daniel Graham

We need a TE in the red zone Favre can count on to actually catch the ball.

I think DJ Hackett may end up a Packer as well with Thompson's ties to Seattle. Did Thompson work for Seattle when the drafted him?

With all the money they have, I have been hearing that they plan on being very active in FA. All the names you mentioned are good ones, but I think it will be Thomas or Clement on Defense, and Deilman or Steinbach on Offense. If you add a solid draft to that, the 49ers could compete for their division.

 Many said the defense turned around when Sanders came back but their success IMO was attributed to Morris being a very solid in place of the overmatched GardnerTom

I hope your are right....but I don't know about Dielman/Steinbach, unless one moves to RT. The OL depth is pretty solid, but Kwame Harris is just awful at RT and must be replaced. I don't see any FA OTs that fit the bill right now.

Vikings

Cato June

The LBers have always needed help, and maybe the new DC Leslie Frazier can help lure him here. Would prefer Freeney of course but doubt he's going anywhere.

Leonard Davis OT from ARZ is a FA. Speculation has him going to the Cowgirls.

Browns

Eric Steinbach and then Kris Deilman

The question marks on the Browns OL are too numerous to mention. The only 2 guys that we are assured being there at the begining of the season are Andruzzi (his age is really showing) and Shaeffer. We will get at least 2 FA's in the off-season and I'm guessing we will out-spend everyone for Steinbach. Getting Deilman would be icing on the cake!

Seahawks

Nate Clements. Really need a cb opposite of Trufant. I would say Thomas because I think he is the best player in free agency but I dont think Seattle will try to get a LB in free agency again.

No link yet, but rumblings are that the Colts re-signed Rob Morris for a 3 year deal.
