Which of these SP's are for real? (1 Viewer)

Harang was a pretty decent pitcher for CIN who's now in a pitchers park. The fact that he'd been injured in the past couple of years kind of threw people off of him.

Harang and McCarthy are for real. I'm not sure on the others. Neither of these guys will be studs but if you look at them as last year's Pavano you'll be in good shape. Bench 'em against tough opponents and you should be fine. McCarthy is now throwing a cutter and they both play their home games in pitcher's parks.

Harang is the top dog in that group, but I got a chance to see Masterson and McCarthy in Arizona and they pitched great. Masterson changed up his delivery a little, so some of his success might fade when the league catches up to that.

Masterson was pretty effective in the second half of 2010 so his turnaround might be for real.

Harang has always had a decent K/9 rate. Petco and the NL West should hide some of his problems with the long ball.

McCarthy if healthy is better in real life than fantasy.

Tomlin has to prove it over a longer sample.

Chen has hung around a long time so you have to give him that. But he's shown over that long period that he's nothing special

harang has been for real for years. Masterson has the tools to be pretty darn good, I'd say he's in the conversation as well. The others, meh. It's a starting pitcher, if they aren't elite there are 20 good fill-ins out there every week.

Tomlin is the only guy I own - in one deep league - but just casually looking over his stats, I'll say he's not for real. Low K/9, FB tops out around 90mph, very low BABIP, leaving a lot of guys on base, etc. Not a lot of upside in fantasy and decent downside. Ride him while he's hot but don't expect it to last much longer.

Harang definitely tops in that group now that he's healthy and in the best pitchers park in baseball.

McCarthy's decent, but like Eephus said, better real life than fantasy.

Masterson's tough to figure out. His 15/9 K/BB makes it look like he's just having a lucky start, but in the past he's pitched well sabermetrically and gotten poor results.

Not much inspiring about Tomlin or Chen.

McCarthy is now throwing a cutter with regularity. Not something he says he used to do. He's not an ace but don't just look at what he used to do.

He has a lot of skill sets that are easy to like, the high GB% and the above average K/9 is a big attraction for me, but his inability to get lefties out and the inevitable walk problems make me feel like I'll get kicked in the nads very soon for having him on my team. I'm sure the ERA is due for a regression pitching in the AL but as long as the Twins/White Sox continue to look horrible offensively he may not get hit with the "pitching in the AL bug" as bad as some starters would.
