which poster's rookie rankings do you value the most? (1 Viewer)

I have several that I enjoy reading but my favorite is EBF. Maybe I can make his Christmas card list. :hophead:
:goodposting: Ranking the rookies is an imperfect science. I've had some total misses in the past, but I think I've learned a few things about the process each season and I think I'm only getting better at identifying the real prospects and the frauds. I'm looking forward to sifting through this class in search of this year's gold nuggets and lumps of coal.

The guys who get to see a lot of these guys play are the ones to listen to..... I'm a reader / evaluator - I don't get to see many of these guys, so I learn a lot from second-hand info. I know Ray Rice and most Hokies back to front, but other than that I don't see enough to make the calls.

As for posters, Bloom is up there along with EBF, Chaos Commish (where's he been?), Andy D, aposulli...

Colin / "Herd" gives it a good shot too.

Those are who come to mind.

Regardless, I take none of them on blind faith. Unless I know a player (or take a strong interest and scour for info like a Flacco - I spent time at UDel) I use consensus. I read what I can from everyone, throw in some Mike Mayock and others, weed out anyone Mel Kiper pimps and go from there.....

There's a lot of great posters on rookies in this forum, but none I respect more than Chaos Commish. I also pay close attention to anything MaddHatter posts.

I would say determining if the poster has actually watched the player at least a couple of times is key. All of us are influenced to some degree by the draft stuff we read, but people who have watched ususally can give us an idea who is over or underhyped. even if someone is not very technical in his analysis, often a player not passing the eyeball or smell test is enough to find out from other sources what the issue is with a particular player.

EBF, Bloom, Tefertiller, Chaos Commish, ConstruxBoy, Redman, Cecil Lammey, and Pasquino. I am sure there are others that I am forgetting, but all these guys know what they are talking about. Like some have said, those that break down film and have the opportunity to watch players repeatedly are very informative.

Where are these guys?

Many times you can get good information from those who watch their homey college teams. Sometimes not.

Bloom hit on Brandon Marshall, let's see how he does with Jacoby Jones and Lorenzo Booker.

If you just listen to Booker you can hear in his voice his understanding of the game AND his composure. He "gets it". Now that's only part of the equation (some would say I "get it", but I won't be running a 4.4 anytime soon*). Will he get his chance? Odds are that he'll see the field more and will at least see 3rd down targets. Hopefully they use him more and maybe even have him be the RB2 - but the backfield will be crowded with Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Jesse Chatman and Booker. The kid has talent and upside, but opportunity, coaching, and offensive scheme will dictate short term performance.*Ever. Even if chased by a bear.

I'd like to play bad cop here.Composure and an understanding of the game would be hugely important if Lorenzo Booker played quarterback. But the importance of those skills for a running back pales in comparison to the importance of raw physical ability. Booker doesn't stack up very well in that department. His measured speed and explosiveness are a notch below what you hope for from a high level RB prospect. Perhaps more importantly, he lacks the lower body bulk needed to push the pile and be an every down guy. He just doesn't have the overall package of traits that makes you think future starter. I think Booker is a decent player. But he's just a role player in the NFL, IMO.

Booker's production was average in college. while he was highly regarded as a high school prospect, he never jumped out as elite in games. He is an example of watching him, production and the buzz from this time last year not matching.

Many times you can get good information from those who watch their homey college teams.
Thats the key. We should setup a school/conference group that watches their schools players everyweek(unbiased of course) and report what they think/see each week and add it all up at the end of the season before the draft.

Agreed - this is something Im planning on doing with draftguys - but we have been on the draft road trip and I haven't had time to coordinate it yet.
