The Hypothetical Situation, real NFL, not fantasy football:

The NFL is doing a complete redraft prior to the 2008 season, with players being given 1 year contracts. It is your job to rank all of the QBs in the order in which your team should take them. You have above average talent evaluation on your coaching staff so you expect to have an average-to-good team at all positions including O-line, running game, and receivers. No glaring holes but not the Patriots or Colts either. You have a coach who has shown he can adjust his offensive system to make the most of the players he has available to him, so you needn't worry about offensive scheme when ranking QBs. No matter which QB you draft you only get him to a 1 year contract, so only base your decision on how you think each QB would do in 2008 for your team. Further, every QB in the NFL will be completely healed from pre-existing injury by the start of training camp.

Which QBs do you have your team take ahead of Vince for a 1 year contract in 2008? Click all that apply. Most of the QBs are alphabetical, and then I added at the end a few higher profile ones who didn't make stats-sorted list I'd started with.

Feel free to post your list as well as voting. There is a None of the Above option for the third list, but not for the first 2 as I only want serious replies and anyone who won't take Brady or Manning over VY isn't being serious in my opinion.

I voted:

Brady

Brees

Cutler

Favre

Garcia

Garrard

Hasselbeck

Eli Manning

Peyton Manning

McNabb

Palmer

Rivers

Roethlisberger

Romo

14 total players.

I have most of them 21.....
Based on the 1 year deal, I had 20. There are a whole bunch that would change if this poll had a longer term ( the senior circuit including Garcia, Favre, Warner )Brady, Brees, Bulger, Cutler, Favre, Garcia, GarrardHass, Kitna, Lienart, Manning, Manning, McNabb, Palmer, Rivers, Roeth, RomoSchuab, Warner, DelhommeStill there are a good 10-15 QBs in the NFL right now I'd take ahead of him given a 3-5 year vision.

Since I'm the only one so far with a write-in vote, I guess I have to name him: Brady Quinn.

I had 26 higher than VY, all of the ones with more than a handful of votes plus T Jackson.

You'd really want Quinn for one year? I'd think that Young's scrambling ability plus having 2 seasons playing against NFL-speed opponents would make him a lot more likely to have a better season. Especially in an offensive scheme that would take his being on the team into account.

I had 16 and I consider myself a pretty loyal Vince Young guy.

I believe next season will be the true "tale of the tape." He did what he always does, he wins. He just doesnt put up the big QB numbers. I dont think he will ever be a big number guy but he finds ways to win. Look at the talent he is working with at WR??? Eric Moulds is the best guy of that group and he wouldnt be the third receiver on many other teams...except maybe Minnesota....another team who had a struggling QB.

I had 22. However, the way you described your hypothetical, it sounds as if a factor could be where you have to take your QB in this draft - for example, no doubt Brady would go in the first... but if Young wouldn't go until the 8th, there is some strategy that comes into play here. I think your real intent was to find out how many we'd rank above him for one year, so that's how I responded.

No, it wouldn't be a factor. As stated:
It is your job to rank all of the QBs in the order in which your team should take them.
Your job is not to decide which QBs represent a good value at different points in the redraft, just to order them vs each other.

;)

6.

In an offense geared for the QB, with solid talent and coaching all around, which I do believe is key here, I have Brady, Peyton, Favre, Romo, McNabb, and Brees ahead of Young. There are several others I'd consider on a par for drafting/ranking purposes.

It'll be interesting to revisit this one.

Right, you understood the intent. But I'm also saying the situation was crafted specifically so that "where you take your QB in the draft" would not be seen to factor in, since your job is only to rank the QBs, not to draft for your team.
