Don't even know how we got on the topic, but I'm having lunch today with a buddy of mine and he tells me that the Chargers are better than the Eagles, and that San Diego would be favored this week against Philadelphia on a neutral field. I think he's :loco: ...

S.D. barely beat a crappy Vikings squad at home on Sunday.

The Chargers are 7-point dogs in New England this week. No way the Eagles would be getting 7 points against N.E.

QUESTION #2 is just something I'm curious about... the original two teams in the argument, plus two more.

In case anyone is wondering, I left N.E. and G.B. out of poll #2 because I think they are clearly the best two teams right now.

I'd give the clear edge to the Eagles at this point. Chargers just lost their kicker and starting DE for the season. Add them back and I'd say it's a lot closer. Still, they held McNabb to under 40 passing yard and AP to under 100 and no touches, which is pretty damn good. I think the main thing that gives the bump to the Eagles is big-play, quick-strike ability of Desean Jackson/Vick and the shakiness of the Chargers' special teams (improved, but still susceptible).

I'd like to think the Chargers are better than the Eagles, but right now I'd say no.

Also, at this point I'm not sure that you can say NE is the clearly the best team in the AFC. Ravens just dismantled Pittsburgh handily, and the Patriots gave up 24 points to the Dolphins... Ravens are playing at a very high level, both offensively and defensively; I really don't think you can make that claim with NE.

I voted Philly because the Chargers... are the Chargers. You're right about them beating a weak Vikings team. And they always are hyped early in the season and fizzle out at some point to become underacheivers. I'll have to see a LOT more before I think the Chargers are for real.

I went with Philly on the 1st one, just too many weapons all around.

I think the 2nd one is even clearer with Baltimore, I'm not so sure NE is better.

The Eagles' O line and run D stinks. I don't see how Vick can last the whole year back there, and any team with a good running game will be able to compete with them. Yes their win was in better fashion, but SJax had some big runs before getting hurt (and even Cadillac had decent #s), and it seemed like 1/2 of Bradford's passes were dropped. A healthy Jackson and a few less drops and we would have been critiquing the Eagles' win against a weak StL team as well.

I'm an Eagles fan. I voted Chargers because their defense is miles ahead of ours. Check back in Week 8 and it may be the Eagles by then.

Baltimore in the 2nd poll.

Chargers are the better team. Maybe the Eagles' offense is better, but SD's defense is definitely better.
As we say here in the AFC West:You can depend on three things - death, taxes and the Chargers not living up to expectations.Signed,Angry AFC West Team Fan Whose Own Team Stinks.

Yes, because as history knows, there's no surer bet than the Eagles living up to expectations and winning the Super Bowl.

I go San Diego. Defense is way better, and Offense isn't that far behind.

ETA: Either way I'd say its close enough where I wouldn't think someone was crazy for thinking the other was better.

Fair point. But if i was a betting man and had to go on recent history - I'd take the Eagles. At least they got there. Many times with the Bolts you hear murmurs of "Superbowl?..." and they dont even get to the playoffs or out of the first round.

:goodposting: The Chargers will likely win the AFC West, and maybe even a playoff game, but with NE, NYJ, Balt and Pitt in the AFC, I can't imagine many non-SD fans are picking them to go to the Super Bowl (which will now lead to some Chargers fan linking to some random national reporter who picked them to go to the Super Bowl  ) Meanwhile, the Eagles, despite no SB wins, have had a ton of playoff success in the last decade, and considered a strong favorite to make it from the NFC this season. All things being equal (which these two teams, could be argued, are), I'll take a team coached by Andy Reid over one coached by Norv Turner.

Long time Chargers season ticket holder chiming in here. I remember seeing this post a few weeks ago. I voted accordingly - Chargers.

I will say this - the Chargers are better than the Eagles - but not better than 1/2 the league.

Where are all the "dream teamers" now?
