I have always thought that. Everyone hates Mondays and loves Fridays. So why not take off the Monday because Friday is always easy to get through.

Objectively, there are many scheduled Mondays off during the year. Anyone on the Friday off schedule gets 4 day weekends without effort. People with Monday off already get "screwed".

I am SURE missing Monday tension is more than worth that trade-off for many people, but strategically, just in terms of maximizing days off, that's a big advantage for Friday off crew.

Why do Monday off people get screwed? When a holiday falls on my RDO I just take the Thursday off before the holiday Friday. I have put in my hours so I still get the off day. I don't understand where any screwage happens.

You get the holiday on Tuesday or the week before pending how it falls in the pay period. So for example, veterans Day was Friday. Friday is my Rdo. So I was off Thursday for veterans Day and Friday stays my Rdo. If I had Monday also I would have had a 5 day weekend instead of the 4 I have.

I also chose one of my in office days as a Monday.....less people and holidays I don't have to commute

B) getting home late on a Friday stinks. Admittedly I haven't worked past 330 or at all on a Friday in 15 years so I'm biased 😆
I'm the opposite here. I always work late on Fridays - getting home at 9 is typical. I get so much done - finally get left alone after folks leave at ~4. Best part of the week.

You’ve talked a bunch over the years about how much you work. Are you in sales and/or get commissions? Working late on a Friday sounds miserable.
While I agree with you in regards to what Sand has shared in the past, if I'm going to work late I agree that Friday is the optimum day as long as I didn't already have something scheduled. In both my current job and previous I don't see anyone but my team members after lunch Friday unless there's a meeting scheduled.

I guess with me being able to easily WFH I feel like I can work late any day I want and not be distracted by others. I realize not everyone has that opportunity but I get the sense you guys could so I guess I still don’t get why you guys would do that on a Friday. But I totally get having catch-up time with no distractions.
I'd MUCH rather do that work sometime over the weekend than Friday, but sometimes the schedule doesn't break that way. Kids sports and social stuff has filled Saturday, we're going to a friends house for the Browns game Sun, and are decorating the house for Xmas before. So, if my checklist isn't done by ~4 today then I'll stick around til it is...and if I still have more to do when I leave to coach I'll log back in tonight. Is that the norm? No, but that's how things are broke this week and I don't want to start off next week (looks like another busy one) already behind.

Maybe I'm weird. I like working late on Fridays. It gets enough done without interruption to not stress over the weekend. Getting in on Monday with 40 things undone is the suck.

And sadly, no, no commissions. I drag in a ton of work so would do very well if that was a thing. This year was the first year I got a bonus (same for everyone in my location), which was nice.

I do like what I do, but do wish there was a bit less of it.

Like I think many here do, I work in a job where the work is never done- I could work anywhere from 40-100 hours any given week. But there’s little upside for me or really the company in me working that much - I’d get burned out and wouldn’t be efficient during those extra hours. If you love it that’s great - but my advice to any one of any age is to try and get a work-life balance that works for you and hopefully makes you happy.
I love it solely because it allows my brain not to stress over the weekend so I can properly decompress. The hours I put in there to have a "free" weekend are more than worth it.

And you're right. At my age I should be able to have the seniority to step back and have minions do more. Our issue is that our workforce has grown by 60-70% over the last year and a half. We keep trying to get ahead of the demand curve but as soon as we add capacity it gets filled.

I am lucky in that I don't stress over work other than when I am doing it and dealing with idiots. The stress is more idiot driven than work driven. But once I leave the office the work stays there. The work will be there tomorrow so no need to stress over it now.

I do understand not everyone can do that though.

When people suggest that perhaps I am overly compensated for my work, the first of many retorts I have for them is that the bold is not possible for me (followed closely by the fact that I can't ever truly take a vacation).

Super envious of those who don't have to bring work home with them.

I want to pick 9/80s, but it's worth noting that there is no circumstance under which I'd accept a 1 hour commute. 12-ish percent of my waking hours driving to or from work every day? F that.

This coming from a guy who flies 8-16 hours a week to commute via air.

I loved my 4-10s shift when I worked it. Having that weekday available for things like doctor's, DMV, grocery shopping, etc..., was incredible. I also worked 5am to 3pm which left plenty of family time in the evening (my kid was younger and went to bed around 7 each night). I've since moved on to a different company and into management that doesn't really allow me to have that schedule but I've given my team the 4-10s option and the ones who do it, love it.
Weekdays off is the best. Given my druthers, I'd work every weekend, in exchange for 2 weekdays.

This only works without kids, and potentially requires making new friends. But not dealing with the cluster of humanity is huge imo.

Government employee here, so my work hours must fit between 6:30 and 17:00. It's also great leaving work at work, with the exception of WFH, but when I'm off the clock, no need to worry about deadlines/quotas/BS.

4 10 hour shifts easily. Don't seem how this is an issue. Save 2 hours of commuting time every week. Can do more things with a 3 day weekend.

hmm unless if differs by agency the hours must fit between 6 and 18:00 without approval (I thought it was standard)

per my agency
m. Employees working any CWS schedule may not begin their normal work shift before 6 a.m. nor end after 6 p.m. Exceptions are noted below in paragraph 9.o.
