Whisenhunt Fired (1 Viewer)

Does this mean they might play Green-Beckham now?

edit to add...

Nothing like simultaneous thoughts!

Jaguars beat writer Ryan O'halloran notes that when Jaguars play Titans in 2 weeks, Gus Bradley will face his third Titans coach.

Damn, he kinda of deserved it but still... I don't like that he was fired after just drafted his "franchise" QB. That just seems dumb.

Clearly there were issues well beyond Mariotta, and Mularkey has been successful with developing QBs in the past.

Probably paving the way for a guy that can improve the team overall on both sides of the ball.

I was floored they hired him in the first place. What has Whizenhunt EVER done in the NFL? EVER?

Inches from a Super Bowl champion with a legit QB????? You can say he rode Warner to a title I suppose but no HC is any good using backup QBs as starters like he has for most of his HC career.

Mularky is a terrible coach and Wisenhunt likely wore him like a bullet proof vest to avoid being fired to begin with. Sort of like Bush picking Dan Quayle as VP.

Who has he been successful in developing? I guess he was OC when Matt Ryan was young, but he was also head coach for Blaine Gabbert and JP Losman.

Titans' ownership listened to the Simmons podcast yesterday and said,"His record is WHAT??!!"

Ok guys were almost there to a dgb breakout! Free dgb!! Lol

Thank goodness that bonehead is gone. Bottom 5 all time coach. Supposedly good with qb development. That was his only claim to fame. And he's not even good at that.

Keeping mariota bottled up and not running. Stunting the development of his young players.

Hopefully mularkey is just a body in the interim till next year.

If he knows what's good for his future prospects he'll unleash his most talented players and say "go play some football guys"

Titans have nothing to lose.

If they can luck into some wins, maybe Detroit will put 2 + 2 together.......nah, nevermind.

..and yet Caldwell is still head coach of the LieDowns. :lmao:

Quick Detriot, send the plane!

He was awful here.

Made inexplicable decisions...just watch them roll out a rookie tackle to go one on one with JJ Watt after the rookie had been benched the week before.

Hell, they kept going one on one with Watt and the Texans killed Mettenberger.

He was probably given a choice at some point to make changes or hit the road...and he seemed unwilling to make changes with how he did things.

The team has not gotten any better...and may be worse than last year (which is hard to do).

They are getting beat by bad bad teams.

And the GM needs to be the next one out the door.

He got the job based off the arm of Ben Roethlisberger, did well in it thanks to Warner. He's NEVER done anything where he's had to develop a guy... not even close. He rode the arm of Phillip Rivers in Mike McCoy's offense to this new gig in TN. I just don't think he's a very good coach. He clearly is not a talent developer, which most of these rebuilding franchises need.

He's won 4 out of his last 35 games as a HC. It's time.

Don't get too excited about DGB, guys. Have you watched him play? He just looks lost out there to me. I hated Whisenhunt, but I don't blame DGB's usage on him. The WRs coach, Shawn Jefferson, yes. He needs to do whatever it takes to get DGB's play up to snuff.

Last but not least: WHIS IS GONE!!!! REJOICE!!! Not expecting Mularkey to make a difference but Whis was ####### awful.

The Titans are 0-4 at home.

The Lions were credited with a home win.

We can't fire a guy who has won a game in Detroit this year.

This is how I imagine the thoughts running through Martha's head as she putters around her Grosse Pointe Shores mansion.

Maybe they'll start using DGB more finally.

Signed, Keenan Allen and Brandon Marshall owner.
Wright is injured

Douglas is returning from cracked ribs.

Hunter was ridden by Whis.

That's it 4 WRs.

Regardless of coach, there could be opportunity.

It seems Whisenhunt was right and DGB can't fill in at all the spots, but as I've been saying for weeks-so what, play him at one spot then.

You would have to be half crazy to start DGB but yet if he did well, it would seem not surprising and people would point to Wright and Douglas injuries. I would wait a week if ya can

I wonder how much this has to do with Mariota. I bet Wisenhunt didn't want him.

What was he, 1.5 years into a 5yr deal. He gets to sit back and make hc $$$ for 3.5 years. Not a bad gig.

Maybe Hunter will get a chance. Seems like he was doing everything he was supposed to do and not dropping passes, but wouldn't get more than a handful of targets.

Anyone know what his salary was with the Titans?

The Cardinals gave him $5.75M for four years. When he was playing DET against TEN, the Lions made the first offer. Supposedly the Titans outbid them by $1M per season.

You couldn't make this #### up.

I see 5.5 and 6 googling so I'm unsure.

Detroit wouldn't let him have personnel decisions and didn't want to switch to 3-4 either.

Another example of a team getting hot at the right time. They won a very weak division at 9-7 and they were 6-0 against the division and 3-7 against everyone else. They got blown out in 3 of 4 games late in the year (Philly, Minnesota, and New England, but still limped into the playoffs. Warner carried them. They probably wouldn't have made it to the super bowl if Jim Johnson hadn't forgotten how to coach defense in the first half of the NFC Championship game.
