hmm. I guess the Angels think one of the guys down on the farm can actually hit in the majors. In any case I'd rather have a 28 year old Garland who's W-L record was decieving last year than a 33 year SS who's game is predicated on speed especially since the Angels have a few options in the minors at SS.ESPN linkdone deal....reporting on espn 1000 in chicago right now.
Agreed. The Angels definitely got the better of this deal.I guess this means Brandon Wood at SS next year?hmm. I have a feeling it'll be an open audition between him and Sean Rodriguez though Wood would have to be the favorite. Neither of the two were especially impressive in Sept callups, but I would bet one of the two eventually pans out.Agreed. Gio?I wonder who Kenny has in mind for the rotation spot? I can't imagine Floyd being the answer for 30+ starts
I hope.No matter who it is, it looks like we're saddled with Contreras for another year.Gio?I wonder who Kenny has in mind for the rotation spot? I can't imagine Floyd being the answer for 30+ starts
Still doesn't justify this trade. Last I checked, Torii doesn't pitch.I guess it'll be a scrum between Gavin Floyd, Gio Gonzalez, and Charlie Haeger (or is he a reliever now?) for the open spot. At least the Sox do have alternatives, but they could have got more for Garland, IMO.White Sox are probably going to sign T.Hunter in the near future from some reports I'm hearing, though nothing is imminent....
this is correcti'm taking this as a stepping stone deal so they can move pitching in a deal for the other cabrera
Throw Lance Broadway in the mix there as well.Still doesn't justify this trade. Is there something to remember? It seems we're all forgetting somoned named Maicer Izturis.
Please show me all these AAA guys who can pitch 200 innings and put up a ~4.20 ERA every year. The guy doesnt strike anyone out, probably gives up too many HRs, but he doesnt walk anyone, he will make 32 starts (and will rarely put up the 2 inning stinker...gives you alot of 7 inning 3 run starts). He is a #3 starter on nearly every team in the league. That is worth at least 10 million a year.Anaheim got a steal in my opinion. Cabrera is making nearly the same amount of money, he is no longer a top notch defensive shortstop...but unfortunately he still hits like one. I am amazed that they were able to get that much for Cabrera, especially when he is not necessary for their team. They have multiple infield options (all better than Cabrera)Brutal deal for Anaheem. They give up a serviceable hitter where they don't have anyone who can immediately step in, and, for a pitcher who makes $10M more than their 5th and 6th best starters (Moseley and Saunders), but isn't a demonstrably better pitcher. Not sure who steps in for Chicago to take Garland's place, but most teams have a guy at AAA who can replicate what he did. Or, didn't do.
:( Are we talking about the same Cabrera? He made 11 errors playing 155 games last year and won a gold glove...how is that not top notch. Please show me all these AAA guys who can pitch 200 innings and put up a ~4.20 ERA every year. He only slugged 397 which places him 16th out of the 26 qualifying shortstops in the league. He is a fairly average defensive SS...but amongst the fairly pedestrian AL defensive shortstops, he is near the top (below McDonald, Pena and Bartlett for sure). Adding in NL shortstops, he is nowhere near as good as Tulo, Vizquel, Reyes, Everett, Rollins, Greene, etc...But he is better than the dreg the White Sox tossed out there the past few years (although it may be difficult to be much worse than Juan Uribe). Please show me all these AAA guys who can pitch 200 innings and put up a ~4.20 ERA every year. He hit .301 w/20 steals, 86 RB, 101 runs....how is that hitting like a defensive shortstop.
