White Sox Offseason (1 Viewer)

WSCR the Score Report: Uribe CutJust heard on the score that there are reports Uribe has been released. Not confirmed yet by White Sox.
Uribe named starting 2nd basemanOwens 15 day DLLoads of questions here with this team but I am concerend about the middle of that lineup. Are we going to see some early punch from the Thome, Konerko and Dye set?
 Was he ever cut?
thats how the story was originaly reported, a couple hours later it turned out that he was placed on waivers, and then they pulled him back. now he will start at 2nd base.

This was the same day that the severity of Richar's injury became known. I don't think the Sox opinion of Uribe has changed; he's still probably gone as soon as Richar returns and/or Ramirez proves he can play 2B at the major league level.

I really cant see the sox just eating 5 million, I think Uribe is a nice guy of the bench, severely over paid but still useful. alot of teams place guys on the waivers, they do it to see what team places a claim to find interest, and then they pull them back.and some times you will place 4 out of 5 guys on the waivers so the other teams don't really know who your desperately want off your team.

I'll miss his occasional monster HR's...and his stellar defense...but in today's game...a .300 OBP guy who tries to hit a HR on every pitch shouldn't be starting. He can help the right squad off the bench, including the Sox, but he probably needs to move on....

I'm still not sure how Ramirez will pan out due to his Sammy Sosa-like tendancies with the curve/slider, but we shall see...

if that means 60 HR I'll take it, all joking aside I think they will have him bat leadoff. that way he will see a lot more fast balls and that's what he can hit well. but if he struggles i could see that experiment end. and they could have swisher lead off. with swisher and Cabrera batting 1 and 2, the pitcher would have thrown 30 pitches by the time the #3 guy comes to bat. this is just me speculating i dont think they have yet made up a regular lineup.

Looks like Swisher will be batting leadoff and playing CF until Owens gets back.
How long is he gonna be out? Pods had the same thing last year and was down 2 effing months. So do you homers think he's the guy in CF or at least gets the chance to be when he's healthy? Swisher ceratinely is not the answer there and that is a liability. What about Anderson? Damn I need Owens.

Anderson has looked amazing this spring, but will have to show something during April/May. Guillen seems to love slap-hitters with wheels at the top of the lineup, so Owens will get the first shot...but for the sake of the franchise, I hope Anderson wins the job...as the guy is one of the better defensive center-fielders I've ever seen, and has some potential with the bat...

He already lost the job. Swish in CF until Owens comes back whenever. Also Alexi Ramirez is hitting the #### out of the ball. He's an Ozzie guy for sure.

Anderson and Quentin both make roster.

Sox roster: Anderson, Quentin inBy Mark Gonzales, 2:03 p.m.TUCSON, Ariz. -- Brian Anderson and Carlos Quentin were informed that they made the White Sox's Opening Day roster. The final decision on a reliever will be made Saturday in Memphis. Ehren Wassermann pitched in a minor league game Thursday morning and then was scheduled to have a wisdom tooth pulled. Wassermann, who is battling Nick Masset for the final spot in the bullpen, was originally scheduled to pitch Thursday against Arizona.Masset remains the scheduled starter against the Diamondbacks.

:yucky: I have high hopes for both of these guys, can't say the same for Owens, but I'll concede he has value as a base-stealer. Nick Masset is as good as gone...

I guess Quentin is in left then. I'm sure Anderson will get some play until he starts playing like regular season Brian Anderson again.

What's the call on Gavin Floyd? I know his numbers haven't been all that encouraging, but he seems to get a lot of praise from people in the organization. Buy/Sell/Hold in a deep dynasty league?

I know many Sox fans have ripped Kenny Williams this off-season, but I think he deserves quite a bit of praise...He has added Orlando Cabrera, Nick Swisher, Octavio Dotel, Alexie Ramirez(Cuban SS), Scott Linebrink, and Carlos Quentin. These players should all be an improvement over the players they are replacing. Losing Garland isn't going to help, but he isn't a special pitcher by any means. If Danks/Floyd step up, I think they are in the hunt come September. I like the new bullpen(I believe last year's version blew 30+ games), and the offense should, in theory, be significantly better. The AL Central isn't a joke, but this baseball, anything can happen...With that being said, I'm hoping Kenny Williams jumps all over that Angels deal involving Konerko and Kendrick, if it is on the table. I'm guessing Josh Fields will start the year in AAA, barring a Crede trade, and I believe he would be a fine 1B given a full spring training at the position.80-85 wins is probably a safe bet...if Dye/Konerko/Thome can stay healthy, and Contreras/Floyd/Danks pitch to their potential, 90+ wins is likely. But I may be biased :goodposting:
Screw the preseason naysayers, Kenny Williams haters, and Jay Mariotti! Danks is the real deal, a future ace if I've ever seen one(the cutter is filthy), still not sold on Floyd, but it's hard to nitpick at his first half. If Paulie isn't finished, and Floyd/Contreras don't pitch as bad as I think they might in the second half...you gotta love the CHW chances come October. Sorry for the gratuitous bump...ignore the Brian Anderson stuff, even if I still love his D :wall:

Looking good so far Titus. It's hard to cast doubt on anything Kenny Williams says in the preseason again.... he said Detroit would be looking up to the White Sox, and well, so far he was right on the money. Long season though.
