Who among theses are the likeliest to start the season? (1 Viewer)

Looking for an early shark opinion on who, if any of these vets will start the season, and perhaps more importantly, get the lion's share of the team's carries. Remember, we're just taking an educated guess. My vote is for Fragile Freddy, let's hear yours and why.

Ahman Green, Fred Taylor, Curtis Martin, maybe Thomas Jones.

I think Chris Brown will lose the job in camp. The others should line up in week one.

Ranking based on probability:

1.) Fred Taylor

2.) Chris Brown

3.) Curtis Martin

4.) Ahman Green

5.) Thomas Jones

I concur. I think Taylor, Brown and Martin are locks to start the season.Green will likely be the starter unless he still has problems with his injury.TJ I believe will not be the starter, but he should get 5-10 touches a game.

The other three (Green, Martin, Jones) will all be hurt, traded, or benched (in that order) by the start of the season.

Chris Brown is the only player of these five that has been labeled the starting RB for their team. Yes, you can be afraid of LenDale all you want... but right now he's just another rookie RB that reported late to camp and has a hurt toe. Chris Brown *knows* that his entire financial future rests on this season. He's playing for more than just a championship. He's going to come out huge from camp and have a good first few weeks... From there, anyone's guess.

Considering that they are all healthy, it goes like this:1. Curtis Martin2. Fred Taylor3. Ahman Green4. Chris Brown5. Thomas JonesChris Brown doesn't have nearly the hold on the starting job that you think, why else would he want to be traded?

With that list, I think the better question is "which of these RBs are most likely to finish the year?"

Considering they are all healthy isn't really an option, given that we know that they aren't. Martin is on the PUP list along with Ahman Green. Thomas Jones isn't practicing due to injury. And as for Chris Brown, I imagine he wants to get traded b/c the team doesn't want to show him the money with an extension. Teams don't usually let core players hit the open market, and Brown was very unhappy about the deal they offered him. Way I see it is this: Curtis Martin is 33 years old and coming off of a terrible season. Though he had a giant season a couple of years ago, the injuries have started to mount, and this off-season is the first time he hasn't been able to do his legendary conditioning routine. The new regime knows he's not the answer at RB, so I don't expect him to get the majority of the carries even if he officially trots to take the opening handoff.Fred Taylor looks great so far, but he will be held back by the fact that he doesn't get goaline work. Of the old guys though, I think he is likeliest to get the majority of the carries.Ahman Green is done, imho. I don't think any running back has ever come back from his type of injury, and there's so much competition in GB for the job. I just don't see how a 70-80% Ahman Green beats out Davenport and Gado.Chris Brown won't get goaline work much either, but he's got homerun ability. I suspect that he will see the field quite a bit more than people think, but then, I actually believe that Chris Brown is a very good player. The real question is whether you expect the offense to be any good at all, considering the QB situation. Teams that win tend to have players with good stats. The Titans don't look like winners to me.Thomas Jones is another guy who is too good to keep off the field. But I think Benson will get more touches especially at the goaline. Still, if you get PPR, Jones is probably the best bet of the group.

I agreeBrown doesn't worry me that much becuase I think that we will see VY on the field, especially if the Titans drop a few games. So, I wouldn't think that the Titans would put two rookies in backfield at the same time for very many snaps.I think that the priority will be to get Young ready, to get him ready they would need to have an established RB out there to help him.TJones is looking like a backup. Next year he'll be in a different jersey.

For whatever it's worth:Heard a Jets beat writer (forgot his name) on ESPN Radio yesterday saying that he thinks Martin is hurt much worse than the Jets are letting on right now. He also said that he wouldn't be suprised if CM didn't play at all this season. He didn't give any hard evidence as to why he thinks this, but he sounded pretty confident.
