Who are you targeting for 2009 production? (1 Viewer)

Who are some players that you'll draft this year due to a potential change in situation going into the 2009 season?

I play in a keeper league that also allows for a developmental keeper. The developmental keeper must not have started any games for you the previous season. By finding players you can afford not to use in one season, but have decent value the next, you gain a significant advantage. Some examples of these type of keepers this season are Bryant Johnson and Michael Turner

I know this sounds like a "who should I draft" thread, but I think of it as a slightly different version of some of the sleeper threads on this board.

Does anyone come to mind?

I like Deangelo Williams. I know many people are really high on Jonathan Stewart, but I think Fox will give Williams his chance. As he showed with Williams, he isn't afraid to sit a first round rb on the bench for two years. Williams performed great when he had his chance.

I think Williams hits the ground running in week 1, starts all year and never looks back.

For 2009 I'd say Vince Young is a good target, they have to add a legit WR and there is a good chance Lee Evans and Roy Williams will be out there or they may draft a guy. Either way Young will have a better supporting cast then the one has currently has. Plus, the OC alone will probably help his numbers in the meantime.

Dwayne Bowe is a good one, I don't think the Chiefs 2009 QB is on the roster yet and whoever it is he'll probably be better than the current one. With a legit QB I expect top-10 numbers.

Pierre Thomas could be a 225-touch RB that can be had for peanuts right now. I doubt that will be the case in 09' so if you believe, then now is the time.

Finally, Vincent Jackson is a guy I like a lot. He is pretty cheap to get but LT is getting older, Gates is having health issues and Rivers is approaching his prime. I believe Jackson is a better WR than Chambers and seems like he is the go-to guy when Gates is unavailable. It's pure speculation, but I think Jackson could have a Plaxico-like career where it takes him a while to really take off. His 09' value will certainly be higher than it is right now.

Lee Evans may be a nice speculative buy, he's a free agent at season's end, I'd just be concerned of the Bills tagging him.

Being able to sit on a player I think would also be determined by your teams depth at that particular position, so you don't have to start him and retain the developmental keeper eligibility. A few guys I think that may fit this are:

-Vincent Jackson

-Chad Jackson

-Brady Quinn

-Ted Ginn

-Ryan Torrain

-Ray Rice

-John Coulson

-Brandon Jackson

-Kevin Boss

-James Hardy

I actually like Trent Edwards because you may be able to steal him near the end of the draft. There are a number of QB's with greater risk that Trent.Julius Jones could be another who falls due to the fact that he has burned owners in the past. His brother was a late bloomer, could JJ do the same? This really wasn't asked, but based on the off-season, any Indy player really has me nervous based on where they will be drafted.
