Who cares about Garrard... (1 Viewer)

Looked like Matt Jones last year!

Especially in the red zone.

Looks like Matt just became interesting again.

He will be if he makes the roster. But all those preseason stats are when David was running with the second team. I'm not sure how much value they have now that David is with a new set of WRs.

There may emerge a possible WR3-4 type but I don't see a draftable player except for in large roster redraft leagues. In dynasty, pick any of them (if you must) and hope to get lucky.

If you were going to take a Jag WR, you won't now.I'd feel more comfortable with Freddie and MJD if anything.
The Jags ran a little more with Garrard. That is the strength of the team anyway. Should be a bump for both Taylor and especially MJD(dump off passes).

Agreed. Sharon is not even a lock to make the roster. Its definitely a downgrade to the entire Jags passing game. If I had to pick anyone from this mess, it would probably be Matt Jones.

This is a messy situation. I can see many of those that wanted Garrard over Leftwich will soon be chanting for Q. Gray to replace him. I would not want to be the starter in Jax with JDR as my coach. It is apparent that he is extremely hard to trust.

Indeed. Passing attempts took a noticeable drop with Garrard under center. Bump up projected carries for the running game, and kiss any Jag WR's goodbye from your draft list unless you are in really deep leagues.

According to this article it suggests that Matt Jones, Reggie Williams, Ernest Wilford will all benefit from Garrard

"The Jaguars don’t have a great set of wide receivers that can get open quickly. This causes the quarterback to have the hold on to the ball longer, which gives the pocket more time to break down. Although Byron Leftwich is as brave as any quarterback in the league, he can’t move around well in the pocket and buy extra time. This causes him to take additional hits, and subsequently miss time. Leftwich has missed 15 of the teams’ last 21 regular season games. David Garrard is strong as a bull and extremely mobile. Garrard can make plays with his feet when protection breaks down.

Reason number three also has to do with the Jaguars surrounding cast. Neither Reggie Williams, Matt Jones, nor Ernest Wilford are deep threats. Byron Leftwich is a long ball thrower. The receivers don’t fit his skill set, whereas David Garrard is more of a short to intermediate passer."

1. FWIW - means just that.2. The OP asked about his favorite target, so I broke down his preseason throws. :lmao:

Never said it was set in stone or rock solid info.

I'd stay away from the whole WR (and TE) situation, but I do value MJD and FTaylor even more.

Jones has all the tools size , speed and great hands all he needs is a QB who can get him the rock.

Size and speed are important; and Jones has those in droves. But what about route-running, balance, body control, ability to gain separation, understanding of the playbook, rapport with the QB, ability to come down with the ball in traffic, open field running, film study, etc...?Considering Jones was a converted QB and has been summarily underwhelming thus far in his NFL career; I could really care less that he's fast and big; those are a tiny part of the mix in terms of becoming a good, much less great NFL receiver.

Didn't Matt Jones coming off an injury have that late season surge with Garrard under center last year....

I would say if you would bump any of them... it would have to be M Jones.

I had a feeling that JDR was on the Hot Seat when management didn't give him Quinn (how does that move look now, they could of traded Lefty and drafted B Quinn)... But wow; cutting Lefty... he just crushed the panic button.

I think Reggie Williams is the most talented WR on the roster. Whether or not he has a good season is another question, but he's the only Jacksonville WR who really has the potential to be a true #1 in the NFL.

Matt Jones is a stiff IMO. He can make a nice circus catch here and there, but he doesn't offer much between the chains. Word out of Jacksonville is that he hasn't improved at all.

Walker and Northcutt were the stars of camp FWIW.
