Who did you "reach" for in your draft? (1 Viewer)

Anybody out there feel they reached on a player? Be honest! And who did you pass over for him?

Not meant to be a bashing thread in the least. Me personally, I think there's nothing wrong with reaching on a player. In fact, depending on draft position and strategy, sometimes you simply have to IMO. I'd rather stick to a gut feeling and reach on a guy, rather than miss out on him completely. Can't bring up MFL at work, but I'll list mine later.

:lmao:

I probably reached for Ricky at 6.9. He,s 31 and missed all of last season. Just kept reading what great shape he's in and has the same speed he had when he was 25. Could be a solid 2-3 RB and that was worth a late 6th rounder to me........

Ronnie Brown - top of 3rd round cuffed to Ricky Williams at bottom of 8th.

I expect big things from Miami run game this year. As long as they do not share, I felt this was a better reward potential.

I reached a bit for the Minnisota Defense at 7.01. Saw them as the best defense in the league and knew they would probably go in the 8th before I got to pick at 8.12.

I have gotten Calvin Johnson in the 5 in 3 leagues. I am not sure that is a steal, but people here seem to think so.

I think it may be a reach, given the questions in Det.

I haven't drafted yet but I'm considering reaching a bit for MJD in a 1 player keeper league with scoring that's TD heavy. If I pick him I'm passing on Portis and potentially Gore as well but I want the guy on my team pretty bad.

I don't know, what do you guys think of the newly signed (Broncos, picked it up off the internet at my draft) Barry Sanders at 2.01? Was that a reach? I know he's been gone for a few years but he retired early and I think there's tread left on the tires.

Selvin Young, Alge Crumpler, and Drew Brees

I'd also consider reaching for Greg Jennings and Santonio Holmes, haven't needed to - although Santonio is still not on any of my rosters - and given my draft positions in my remaining drafts I won't need to.

Glad I don't have to reach for J Stew and DA anymore.

B. Marshall in the 4th (actually my first pick, after posting our 3 keepers). Over Plax, Holt, S. Smith...

I think he's the next TO.

Megatron at 4.2
I was all set to take him there too, until he went at 4.1. My 'reach' then became Marshall at that spot.
Marshall is not a reach in round 4. I made my quickest pick in my fantasy football history when Marshall fell to me at 4.8 in my most recent draft.
 I have him valued in the late 3rd, and it will rise a little more (above Steve Smith to WR8) if his suspension gets reduced to 1 game. He was in my elite group pre-offseason.

The worst reach I've seen was a guy pick Parker/Owens at the 1.12/2.1 turn. This is a really competitive league and everyone really knows their stuff. Worst pick of the draft IMO.

recent FBG's auction, in Balt/Wash area (12 team/$250 cap)...

owning Westy($70-ish) in a PPR league, I went after Bush strong--like $45, but he goes to Pasquino, long after the others faded in the bidding...JP said "I couldn't let you own Westy AND Bush!"

so, my reach

Chris Johnson @$16, when Fatdale went for a fin...

most RB2's were gone, and I think this kid catches 50+ balls this year (me hopes!)

the good news is we rostered:

TO, Fitz, Burress and Cotchery to make up for the minor RB2 deficiency (Dunn, Fargas and Mo Morris are the bench)

I love Calvin Johnson this year also. I was very happy to get him in the middle of the 5th in a pretty competitive 12 team league.

But, i have gotten Cotchery in the 6th of both drafts i have done this year. I'm not sure if thats a reach....I think he has very little downside with the potential to reach the top 15 wr even though i drafetd him as a #3.

Carson Palmer with the 21st pick overall in a QB-Flex league, could have had Colston but I already had Larry Fitz. In the shadow drafting I had done when I passed up Palmer at the 2-3 turn I wound up with doo-doo at QB and I didn't want that in what is basically a 2 QB league.

Ray Rice over Chris Johnson in our Rookie/FA draft. Our league is not PPR so that weighed a bit in the decision. Also, I wanted the possible option of trading to the McGahee owner if need be.

Kinda similar to this idea, I messed up and picked the wrong WR. In the 18th round, I figured I might as well take a flyer on a bears WR, and took M. Booker. Didn't realize until later that night Booker isn't the main WR. I assumed since I have ignored most things that have to do with the bears fantasy wise. Come the 18th round though I noticed not one bears WR was taken, and blurted out Booker.

:scared:

10 Team Redraft standard scoring

Calvin Johnson 4.6.........He was the 1st WR I took in this draft.

I would have reached for Holmes had he fallen to me but he was taken a pick before me. Also reached on Burleson, he's not getting a lot of talk for the situation he is in. I wanted to make sure I got him.

I had quite a few reaches as well but to be honest my league is pretty competitive and its a 14 teamer so in some cases I was sure I wouldn't be able to get the guy I wanted if I kep waiting for the next round to come up. Our league is TD heavy with all Tds worth the same and we give little points for yards but the heavy scoring comes from TDs. At 1.04 I took MBIII which was sorta a reach but I am very high on this guy and expect him to explode. I heard a lot of groans from the owners with lower picks as they were targeting him. I also took Drew Brees at 2.25. Once again I knew he would be gone if I waited for 3.32 to take him since Brady, Manning, and Romo had already gone way earlier. I was happy with my next 2 picks as I snagged Santonio Holmes at 3.32 and then followed it up with Calvin Johnson at 4.53. I once again reached for Ricky Williams at pick 5.60 and mentally kicked myself for it but I was swayed by all the talk we have heard of him looking good and Ronnie's injury. So I pretty much reached, I elt, in 3 of my first 5 picks, however I feel good about my MBIII and Brees picks and the only one I am unsure of is the Ricky Pick.

Anyways my league starts 1QB, 1RB, 1WR, 2Flex (WR,RB,TE), 1K, 1D for a total of 7 players and here's what my team looks like.

QB- Brees, Warner

RB- MBIII, R. Williams, Chris Perry, Felix Jones, Micheal Bush

WR- Holmes, C. Johnson, Bryant Johnson, Vincent Jackson, Brandon Stokeley, Mark Clayton, David Patten

K- Vinatieri, Stover

D- Baltimore

12 team, Keep 3 (but I already have Fitz, Barber and ADP)...I had the 1.02 pick (really 4.02 when you consider keepers) and I took Darren McFadden over Holt, Burress and Jacobs...1/2 point per reception, and I just could not let him slip (we can start up to 4 RBs). I am hoping for a Bush-type rookie year, or else I may have made the wrong decision there...it hurts even more now that Curtis (my 3rd WR is out for a while).

12 Team Keeper, 5 keepers (no more than 2 per pos.,) 18 player roster. Start 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1K, 1D.

My keepers: P. Manning, L. Johnson, E. James, R. Wayne, A. Boldin

My reaches:

6.05 (65) C. Johnson, RB, Ten, ADP 8.12

9.08 (104) O. Daniels, TE, Hou, ADP 10.10

10.08 (116) K. Walter, WR, Hou, ADP 15.06

11.08 (128) T. Hightower, RB, Ari, ADP 17.11

12.08 (140) C. Henry, WR, Cin, ADP 17.08

My value plays:

7.05 (77) C. Chambers, WR, SD, ADP 7.01

13.08 (152) L. Washington, RB, NYJ, ADP 14.04

14.08 (164) J. Kitna, QB, Det, ADP 11.02 - Have since dropped due to bye week issue, added: K. Warner, QB, Ari, ADP 16.04

15.08 (176) B. Jackson, RB, GB, ADP 14.11

19.04 (220) D.J. Hackett, WR, Car, ADP 11.06

Obviously, I did not list all of my picks.

Minnesota defense at 8.1.

Maurice Jones-Drew at 13th overall.

Kurt Warner 12.1

turner at 3.8. I didn't like anyone else at that spot. (in hindsight I should have drafted plex and then at 4.2 picked up either turner or Jones)

Calvin Johnson at #33 (4.3), but for some reason my Value Based Draft sheet had him had him at #36 above Steve Smith, Anquan Boldin, Wes Welker and Santonio Holmes

Vince YoungFor some reason my custom rankings had him listed as the 7th best QB. Must be because of his running.
Mine had him #8, I was thinking because Pass TDs were 4pts vs Rush 6pts, and rushing yards. I got him in the 17th round although I'm not sure if I should of got him at all with the TEN preseason woes.

Just the Parker pick or both?
Just Parker. I don't think RB/WR is bad at the turn. Here are some of the other RBs still available; as well as evey other WR not named Moss:LynchGrantLewisMcGaheeMaroneyBushGrahamJones-DrewTurner

Would you consider, in a ten team league, that Colston at 2.2, considering TO is off the board, a reach? Santonio Holmes at 3.9 a reach? Calvin Johnson at 4.2? I like them all this year, a lot, ya there may be some players that are considered better or of higher ranking than they, but i really, really like there chances tons this year, what about torry holt, where does he go and what do you guys think hell do this year?

Kevin Jones

Not convinced that Forte has what it takes to be "the man."

Could hurt me as "Da Bears" don't look overly impressive and could have offensive line issues, but if Kevin Jones is healthy and Chicago wants to win it is my opinion that Jones is the better back.

Some dummy in my league took him at 19 and laughed at others for taking Owens and Colston ahead of him!

I probably reached on Calvin Johnson at 3.09 in an 11 team draft, but the guy with pick 3.10 is a giant Lions homer, so I knew if I wanted Calvin, I had to take him there. Then come around the turn at 4.03, I took McFadden. Again, no chance he makes it all the way back to me at 5.09. If he doesn't pan out, I'll have to hope that Ricky Williams puts up RB2 numbers. I probably reached on him too at 7.09, but again, I think he'll be worth it.

For Calvin, I passed up Holmes, Holt, Chad Johnson (this draft was just last Friday and I think people were nervous about the injury, I know I was).

For McFadden, I passed up Thomas Jones, Earnest Graham, Maroney. I'll take the upside risk over those guys, just as I took Adrian Peterson's risk a year ago.

For Ricky Williams, I passed up Lendale White, Selvin Young, Chris Johnson.

I definitely tend toward higher risk, higher reward players. I also took Felix Jones and Ray Rice later in the draft.

Some would say that I reached by taking Terrell Owens at 1.6 last night, but WRs get more points per catch than RBs do in this league (0.5 vs. 0.25), we get extra points for longer TDs, and Owens is a surefire WR stud, so when Moss went at 1.5, it was a no-brainer for me. Bottom line is, in this league, WRs are just as valuable as RBs, and I would rather have a stud WR whom you know is going to score double digits TDs rather than take a RB whom everything must go right for to do the same thing.

Doesn't anyone else notice the trend? If you think guys like Calvin Johnson and Jerricho Cotchery are top 10-15WRs, getting them in rounds 4 and 5 are bargins...not reaches.
