Who do you handcuff Ahman Green With? (1 Viewer)

Who would you handcuff Green with, speaking in terms of the rest of the season? Morency looked good, but the injury seems like it could be a bad one.

Green owner here. Not taking either guy as a handcuff at this point.

Herron isn't good enough to warrant starting if Green goes out.

Morency is (or at least could be), but he's banged up enough that I'm not spending the roster spot on him.

In a week or two, I might grab Morency. He's on the radar. Herron isn't.

This doesn't make much sense to me. Regardless of what you think of Herron's overall NFL potential, if Green went down tomorrow, Herron would the starter. So how is Herron not even on your radar? You don't like starting NFL running backs? They have no one else, other than Bears practice squader PJ Pope now. If you have a spot and want to secure Green's backup, it's Herron. Also, Green Bay's been a little too quiet on the Morency injury for my taste.

Bump. Agree on how it seems that they've been quiet on Morency's injury.
They haven't been quiet at all. He has an injured disk in the lower part of his back that he's had all year, he aggravated it during last weeks game. They've said he's out two games, being cautious.

While I'd agree that any starting running back has value, Herron has no explosive speed at all. If he had Morency's carries last week, he'd not have come close to the 100 yards that Morency had.

There aren't many bacukup RBs that are capable of posting a 100 yard game.

Herron posted one this year.

I have Herron to backup Ahman Green in a big $ league.

You guys have enough roster spots to handcuff Ahman Green?
Sorry- my league isn't as cool.
What's with the attitude? It was a simple question.
With all the abuse that folks potentially take when posting about their own team on this board, you have to understand that your post could certainly be taken in a condescending manner. Good to hear it wasn't meant that way.As for me, I am an Ahman owner in my $ league and do indeed have enough roster spots and am negotiating with the Herron owner. I agree that Morency is a much greater threat to break a long run and overall a better physical talent, but my gut agrees that the Packers are being too quite about his injury and Herron might very well be the backup the rest of the way. He may not blow your skirt up - but neither did Samkon until he got a couple games in a row as the #1.I don't care who carries me to a championship, as long as I get there.

New kid on the block

Running back P.J. Pope, signed off the Chicago Bears' practice squad on Tuesday, practiced with the Packers for the first time and is getting what he called a "crash course" in the playbook.

Pope said it wasn't easy to leave Chicago because he had grown somewhat comfortable there, but he believes he has a chance to move up the depth chart much faster here than with the Bears.

"It was a tough decision," Pope said. "I got used to coaching staff and everybody in the program. But when the opportunity presents itself, you have to run with the chance."

Pope, a non-drafted rookie out of Bowling Green, made a favorable early impression with his burst and his all-around skills.

"He's an explosive young man, has a nice run style and he puts his foot down," McCarthy said. "He has a one-cut mentality, which is what we're looking for in our run game. He was pretty stout in the pass protection today in our blitz drills, so I was impressed with him for his first day of practice."

I think it depends on your current team. I have Green and I would not handcuff him. Having said that I have W Lundy sitting on my bench. So I guess I am handcuffing him with Lundy. It just depends on your circumstances.

You don't really believe this, do you?
How many 100 yard games does Mo Morris have this season? The point is just like picking a handcuff - if he's not nearly as good, there's no point in owning him in the first place. You're better off owning a lesser starter from another team or a RB in a committee situation.

When I said Herron isn't good enough to warrant starting, I meant on my fantasy team.I've got Rudi, FWP, Green, Washington, Norwood. If Green were to go down and Morency was healthy, he'd slot right into that RB3 position Green's in now, ahead of Washington. I think Morency's talented and would be very productive as a starter. If Green were to go down and Herron took over, he'd slot in behind Washington for sure, and perhaps Norwood too. I saw Herron play regularly in college and I just don't think he's got NFL-caliber talent. Given my other options, I'd never start him. So why roster him?

I've rostered Herron as a Green owner, but will pay close attention to Morency's status. I've read multiple articles and blurbs on Morency and they have for the most part noted that he'll miss at least 2 games. However, some of the language used in these reports leads me to believe the team is not overly optimistc on his return. Plus the fact that they added another RB to the roster could be viewed as a negative for Morency's prospects for returning soon.

Gree Bay has some solid RB matchups coming up and in my fantasy playoffs. Ahman Green's backup may or may not be worth the start, but I like to leave my options open. If you have the space, and looking ahead you were planning on playing Green in your playoffs I'd pick up Herron and listen closely for news on Morrency and Pope.

I guess this may be stating the obvious, but I think the key is the Morency injury. If you think Morency is only out two weeks, then I think he's back to being the handcuff. For example, if Green goes down this week and Morency's only out for this week and next, then Herron would be great for next week but once Morency returns I think he's the one you want to have.

But then if you think Morency will be out for longer (and they indeed aren't being crystal clear about his timetable), then Herron is your handcuff. But from what I've read, even after Herron's big game against the Rams, is that they really do not want to feature Herron if they can avoid it, but just use him in relief and as change-of-pace. Saying things like "he left yards on the field."
