Who else has washed their hands of Mathews? (1 Viewer)

Sorry to start another thread on him but I can't believe how week after week according to most rankings sites, this guy is ranked between 10 and 15 every week. Disclosure, I play non-ppr. This guy has one stinking TD all year. I'm done. I'm plugging in Reece. 7 points a week is not enough for me.

Who else is benching him for lesser ranked players?

He's pretty much scraps. Ronnie Brown gets all the 3rd down work and Jackie Battle gets the red zone work. I'd love to be able to unload him, but can't get a bag of fat free fritos for him. Thus I'm forced to hold.

In a redraft, I agree he is pretty much worthless, but as a dynasty owner I am finding it very hard to sell him at this point. RB talent is not that deep so many owners will not part with a RB to acquire Mathews. I too would love to deal him in dynasty but the value is not there right now.

could not unload him in any packages.. as I needed a QB in the wrost way...

was forced to sell mccoy

ugh i am stuck with him....

Turned down LeShoure and a 1st for him several times. I finally made the same offer and it was too late

Then in another league an owner offers me Mathews for Randall Cobb, David Wilson and a top 5 (likely) 1st. I felt like

saying, yeah right...I tried that too.

He's an official bust with a depressing long term prognosis. Even his biggest supporter Norv Turner doesn't trust him as a pass catcher/blocker or in short yardage. When a new regime comes to SD they will have no allegiance to him, and with Rivers' arrow pointing down, unload Mathews as soon as a decent offer presents itself.

Sold him for McFadden and Cruz redraft, owner was really hurting at Rb after McFadden went down.
I sold him for McFadden the day BEFORE the DMC injury. Still not too upset with the deal

If they lose to Denver that might all change. What they are doing now isn't working out to well.

Updating an earlier item, Ryan Mathews missed Wednesday's pracitce with a neck injury.

According to coach Norv Turner, Mathews was "pretty stiff" after taking a shot from Bucs LB Quincy Black in Sunday's loss.

I want to unload him but I just don't know what kind of value I can get. Should I try to trade him for Denarius Moore?

its as if every week, all the Pros doing rankings and analysis see something that a regular viewer doesn't. They might be right one of the weeks when he scores one, and then again rank him top-5 the next week, but till then it is pretty obvious this guy is limited by the number of touches and limited role. No third/fourth downs, no goal line work, no 2-minute drills. Waste of talent.

He's my RB3 now since I acquired Ridley via trade.. I may use him in my Flex this week since Nicks is on bye, but I may go with Mendenhall instead. At least Mendenhall may get a TD.

Lots of overreaction going on. In redraft I understand it. In dynasty, why on earth would you sell him? The cream always rises. You don't want to be that owner that buys into all of thr panic and sells him the week before he gets on track for far less than he should be worth (see Johnson, Chris).

So quickly we forget how studly he was last year SHARING TIME with Mike Tolbert. San Diego is a mess but Norv will likely be gone. I can't imagine the new head coach will misuse Mathews as badly as Norv this year.

He has elite talent. And he's not mired in a situation like Jonathan Stewart. Hold hold hold.

I was big cheerleader for the Chargers drafting him but it seems like he's going to be 30 before he can stay healthy for an entire year.

was close to dumping him along with felix jones for trent richardson to a charger fan but he backed out last minute

That's SD's schedule after this week's tough matchup in Demver. And the Steelers are nothing to be afraid of.

I have this odd feeling that Mathews is going to turn it around right about the point when the last seller sells. Which is probably this Sun/Monday.

He may not return to RB1 status, but he could help those buying low now win championships as their RB2 or RB3.

Let's hope so. I'm one of those stubborn, unfortunate owners who waited too long to trade him. With no lifeboats left, I'm going down with this ship.

Few weeks back I offered a trade for Ryan Matthews.

I give Ray Rice, two 5th round picks

I get Ryan Matthews, two 1st round 2013 picks

- at the time of the offer, the 1st round picks were looking in the 7-10 range

- now, one of the picks is looking around 5-6 with the other in the 7-9 range

I just sold Ryan Mathews in a redraft -- he was just too frustrating for me. But for you owners out there, just know that the talent is there. He is one of the most talented RBs in the league, as evidenced by his statistics last year.

But the reason why I sold him was due to the Chargers' offensive line woes and his underachieving this year. He is what he is, an underperforming RB who pretty much guarantees you 10 pts every week (at least in my league), with the ability to blow up due to his talent. Yet his O-line is just dreadful, especially with Gaithers out.

Rotoworld

Ryan Mathews rushed 17 times for 54 yards and added five catches for 22 yards in the Chargers' Week 10 loss to the Bucs.

Despite another bad statistical day, it was an encouraging outing from Mathews. He protected the football and ran hard against the league's best run defense. Most importantly, he stayed on the field in most two-minute and red-zone situations. That usage has Mathews' arrow pointing up heading into a Week 11 game at Denver. Nov 11 - 6:04 PM

Take a look at his schedule, Mathews is about to blow up just like he did weeks 11- 14 or 15 last year. Buy, Buy, buy at your deadline!!!!

He will usher you into the playoffs and maybe even win you a few games.

Trust me, you will thank coachbobbyfinstock later!!!!

The encouraging signs from last week:

1. Mathews got 17 carries while the other three RB combined for 7 carries.

2. Mathews caught 5 Balls helping his PPR value.

3. Mathews stayed on the field in 2 minute/RZ situations much more than in past weeks.

If he could keep getting about 18-20 carries with 4-5 receptions I would be very content in my PPR league because RB are so tough to find this season.

I agree with this line of thinking. Turner is a dead man walking. What Matthews owners need is a no-nonsense coach that doesn't waffle. That way, you get a guy coming in and he will either tell us day 1 "I will use matthews or I won't". I think there is a good chance of this happening because it seems like Turner is perceived as not the most matter-of-fact guy and usually when coaching changes occur, it goes from one extreme to the other. Then, if you have that, I don't see any option San Diego has than to address almost any area on that team in the draft and FA other than the RB. They need an o-line. They need a d-line interior. They need to start thinking of a TE and they need lots of solid depth players. Its just one of those years it seems, but in dynasty, I think I still like Matthews.

I don't currently own him in any leagues (talking about dynasty leagues), but I would buy him for the right price. However, IMO he is still pretty expensive. He is still being valued as a top 10 RB but if I can get him for less than that I would buy him in a dynasty league.

Oh man! You woulda scored with that trade. After the DMC injury, I tried to trade DMC and Mathews for Trent Richardson, and the other owner said no.
