You do realize that Williams hit .406 that season, right? All of his 56 game stretches look pretty similar for that year. That said, the 56 game hitting streak is pretty inconceivable.

Four percentage points to batting average are almost nothing. I'll take the HRs and RBIs.

What record will be broken quickest?
Are all Yankee fans this dense?
Forgive me 'He who jumps ship for a World Series victory". What I meant was what do people in this forum think the harder record to break will be?
Yes, I jumped ship in 2000 from a team that hadn't won a WS in 92 years for one that hadn't won one in 83. A World Series was exactly what I was looking for when I made this decision. Again, are all Yankee fans this dense? As for the answer to your question, .406 will be harder to break since it isn't a record in the first place.

Anyway.......that's good you jumped ship...hope it worked out for you. You really should have jumped to the Yanks....there's always room for another fan and they have a history you can be proud of. Forgive me, I realize .406 isn't the record..but it has been a benchmark for so long it is the single season achievement that most people associate batting average excellence with.

Wow you changed your sporting allegiances? I can't believe someone would do that. I hope it came with a sponsorship or something.

How about comparing these two "streaks":

Dimaggio's 56 game hitting streak

vs.

Ted Williams 84 game on-base streak (1949).
