Who has more value in 2007? (1 Viewer)

Thoughts on longterm benefits of both. I think Betts has proven he could be worthy of a shot as a starter somewhere. Whether he gets it or not, who knows?

I have my doubts about either guy going to another team and getting the starting job. Houston, assuming both stay with their current teams, probably has the best chance of winning a starting job or getting a lot of carries (Betts won't beat out Portis of course). Betts is a very good receiver and I would give a decided edge to him in a PPR league, however.

Houston is in a logjam in NY, and they may draft another RB.

Betts has looked good this year (roughly the same as Portis other than the TD's), and has a decent chance of landing a starting gig next year.

Don't get me wrong: Betts doesn't have huge value, but he has more value than Houston.

Whenever this subject of Betts getting a starting job comes up, I remind people how hard it is for a backup RB to have that happen. There are relatively few jobs available out there without much competition, and the teams that have weak backfields invariably also have poor records and will draft high, meaning that they could well fill that hole via the draft. Also, Betts like so many other backup RB's is a backup for a reason: he's not a studly RB, merely a good one. I think Betts' prospects for next year look like this:Returns as Redskins backup RB - 40%Signs with another team as backup or in RBBC - 50%Signs with another team as the starter - 10%

Betts will be a starter somewhere in 2007..GB, houston, NYJ, Giants ( if they don't go after Turner),Jax, Cleveland, Denver...he has a good ypc avg, and catches the ball extremely well..he most definitely will be a highly sought after FA...many teams will be looking for quality RB's, and simply put, there aren't that many to go around.its a weak free agent RB pool, heading into 2007..Betts and Turner figure to be the biggest names/signings of the offseason, and perhaps A-Train as well ( if he is in fact, a free agent - I don't know his status)

Turner is a RFA. He's not going anywhere. So Betts is really the only UFA of interest (Duckett, A-Train...). Is Henry a UFA?

Yes, but there's a really good rookie class of RB's heading in. Some of those prime spots in Green Bay, Houston, Jets, etc. are likely to be filled with those rookies.

Also, Betts ypc average is boosted a great deal by the fact that he's in the game on third downs when Portis starts. If you look only at his numbers from his starts (weeks 1-2, 11-12), you have this:

50/184 = 3.7 ypa; he's scored zero rushing or receiving TD's in four starts.

Hey, I'm a Redskins fan and I'm a big fan of Betts, but buyer beware here. He's a good RB, but his stats are better than he is on offense. He's in the perfect situation right now on the Redskins and I'm afraid you'll only see another version of Peerless Price if he goes to another team to be their starter.

Betts, and it isn't even close. Next year he will get a starting job and people will draft him about the same as Chester Taylor this year. He will be worth it. He is a 3 down back that can pass protect. I don't think he will average more than 4.3 ypc but he will have 45-60 catches. 225 lbs allows him, but doesn't guarantee, the goalline carries. IMO, Houston will go on to be a backup for a couple years then fade away.

Honestly, I think the jury is still very much out on Houston. Last year he was still recovering from that thyroid condition, and then after his first good game got a hyper-extended knee this year. It appears to this homer that the Jets CS thinks he's better than Barlow in an RBBC. I agree. How he finishes the year will have a big impact on what postions the Jets draft in the early rounds next year.

This new regime has proven that they understand games are won and lost by the front 7 on D and having a solid O line. As of now, I expect the Jets to draft either a NT or ORT in the first round. They have 2 second round picks, one from Washington.... depending on what RB's are still there, then maybe, but that isn't a sure thing in my mind either.

Houston is as fast as Blaylock, but doesn't have the wiggle. He's Barlow, but faster. N-S RB. I don't know what to make of Betts. I thought C Taylor would suceed as a starter, and happened to get lucky with that guess, Betts I'm not so sure of. I look at Houston as a safer but unspectacular choice, while I see Betts as a higher risk, higher potential upside guy.

Why these two guys in particular? Need to keep one or the other? Gonna try to trade for one?
