Who is kicking in New Orleans? (1 Viewer)

I am entreating the universe on an hourly basis that they re-sign Shayne Graham, FWIW. Every hour that passes that they don't make an announcement, I'd like to think increases that likelihood, because if they're going to bring in someone else, they should be spending every minute they possibly can getting him acclimated to the long-snapper and holder...

I somewhat agree with Nittany Lion because Graham wasn't a guy trying out for a team - he had a contract which they invalidated by dropping him before the deadline leading several to think they will bring him back as long as he agrees to a cheaper deal.

But they may have wanted to tryout some of the released kickers to accomplish that or at least give them several days more to decide which way to go with their last roster spots.

It's actually driving me mad - I can't believe it - over a PK!

I had A Henery and S Graham rostered on my squad. Grabbed a few others off F/A - Akers, Hartley, Folk (at least he's rostered) to see what pans out. BUT, I need to cut down rosters shortly.

I was thinking Graham would re-sign or they'd bring back Hartley as he's familiar with the team and system etc.

lol, I drafted Graham and Dimke hoping to get the kicker to a high-powered offense, only to find out the Saints cut both of them.

Why not just rent McManus for 4 weeks kicking for a high octane offense in mile high? It is just a kicker and he is going undrafted

Graham went 4 for 4 in the playoff game vs the Eagles. You'd assume that gave him the inside edge, but apparently not enough to make the roster.

Ian Allen's point on last nights FFI podcast was that given that the Saints already have a kickoff guy, someone like Connor Barth seems like a good fit.

From ESPN:

What's next: The Saints still have one glaring need since they went with "none of the above" in their kicker competition. Neither Shayne Graham nor Derek Dimke was consistent enough to lock down the job. I'm perfectly fine with that, especially when you consider the experienced veterans who are now available (Ryan Succop, Alex Henery, Connor Barth, Jay Feely, Rob Bironas, plus a number of young guys who had solid camps elsewhere). The question, however, is whether the Saints can develop trust in a new guy quickly enough. The Saints have had an itchy trigger finger regarding kickers over the years. So what happens if the guy they choose misses once or twice in September? ... To make room for the next kicker, the Saints will likely place either fullback Erik Lorig or linebacker Khairi Fortton injured reserve -- possibly with a designation to return.

Whoever the NOS kicker, you're better off looking elsewhere. The Saints kicker has the highest floor and lowest ceiling. You can do much better.

They were 10th in potential kicking points last year (which supports your claim), though they were 6th in the league in quantity of 4th down conversion attempts which is high for a winning team. Cincinnati, a team with only 22 FGAs last year, was the only other winning team in the top 10. With a more accurate kicker the 4th down attempts would go down and potential kicking points would go up.

Uh,.....Graham was already making the league minimum $955K based on the one-year deal he signed last February.

I wouldn't doubt a bit that their "potential kicking points" took a hit because Hartley was damn near the worst FG kicker in the league. With a more capable leg, they probably don't go for it on quite so many 4th downs in enemy territory.

Yes, that's the theory. Finishing 16th in actual kicking points and 10th in potential (ie pts scored assuming every FGA and XPA was good) is one good representation of the Saints' kickers inaccuracy in 2013 and the elevated 4th down attempts is another. So you'd assume Top 10 is there for the taking (which is barely starting in most leagues), but there's some upside there after that.

The kicker (ie Hartley) has cost the Saints a division crown and home field advantage for the playoffs in 2011 and it may have happened again last year. Not only that but Graham missed 2 FGs in an 8 point loss to Seattle last year. Pretty hard for a coach to take.

Graham missed one of those long XPs which were really short FGs in the preseason. Dimke missed a FG in PS game 4, though he got another chance after a penalty. IMO Dimke does not look good, he has those soft floating kicks you often see from college kickers. The Saints may likely nonetheless resign Dimke because he costs less than Graham. I'd prefer they sign a new kicker but it's getting pretty tough to line that up and prepare with less than a week to go before a huge opener at ATL. I'm sure they do something today by creating a roster spot by IR'ing Lorig or Fortt.

I've always liked Rob Bironas. No clue why he's not on a team.

Broncos or Saints need to sign him

Thank you, oh mighty universe!!! :pickle:  :pickle:
