Who is the best pass-catching RB in the league today? (1 Viewer)

out of all the guys mentioned, Ray Rice is the only one on pace for over 1,000 receiving yards this year. Oh and 1,000 rushing yards. The last guy to do that was pretty at catch passes, too.
Can you possibly be more wrong? Opinion is not fact. You didn't even read the thread if you can post this.Edit: Forte is on pace for over 1400 rushing and over 1100 receiving.
oops. Didn't realize Forte was on pace for similar numbers. Got my info from the football guys daily email:
BAL - RB Ray Rice approaching elite numbersSource: NFL Draft Bible - Bo MarchionteBaltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice has averaged 74.3 yards per game on the ground and 60.5 yards per game through the air, which if he keeps up the pace, would let him join former RBs Marshall Faulk and Roger Craig as the only rushers in NFL history to gain 1,000-plus yards rushing and receiving in a single year.[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]Rice is one of the game's best and certainly has the potential to join the 1,000/1,000 club.
Figured they would've mentioned that Forte is on pace to do the same thing..............In any case, in any case, I don't see how anyone can have a Top 5 or whatever and NOT include Rice.

Week 9 Monday Night Football Chicago plays Philly. Sounds perfect for some Forte/McCoy compare/contrast scouting.

Also, thanks for the PPR wisdom. I realize the fantasy points don't know if they came from a cheap dumpoff or a crisp route (they're so innocent!) but in football terms it matters to me.

Also-also, I wonder how much of McCoy's production is because of the scheme. If Reid is gone next year maybe we see his receptions change (for better or for worse).

There are a lot of RBs that are terrific pass catchers. But I like RBs that can do both.

McCoy

Foster

Rice

Forte

DMC

Plenty of others can be thrown in this mix, but I like how these offenses use these RBs in the run and pass game. Arguments can be made to rearrange this order in many ways, but these five stand out to me as the best PPR RBs.

I'm glad Forte is starting to get his due. Just like Tiki and Duce, littler 'scat-back' types have to produce a lot more for a lot longer before they are acknowledged as elite at their position. I think we need to rethink what a prototypical running back is in this age of the NFL. It probly looks a lot more like Matt Forte than Jim Brown.

LOL :lmao:

Jim Brown 6'2", 232. Just like a high school cheerleader, what a difference 14 lbs can make.

playing in 3 PPR leagues I've tended to have a lot higher value on the pass catching type Running backs, the 3 I was able to grab in all 3 of my leagues were Forte, Bradshaw and Jackson. I took Forte as high as the #5 RB (my personal ranking and wasn't chancing missing him) in one over the likes of MJD, Charles and CJ. Working out great for me. I have since traded Jackson in 2 of the leagues to upgrade my receivers since I did go RB in 4 of the first 5 rounds in all 3 drafts. My list for PPR RB's this year looked like this for my top 15 with all.

Rice

Peterson

Foster

McCoy

Forte

CJ2k

MJD

S. Jackson

Charles

McFadden

Gore

Bradshaw

Jackson

Matthews

Best

backs that get a lot of receptions are huge and makes their rankings skyrocket over others that don't catch many balls like a Michael Turner who will catch 15 balls all year maybe.

Out of all those backs Peterson will clearly be outperformed by everyone else on that list. Lucky if he flirts with 30 recs this year, realistically 20-25.

Besides Forte, I think McFadden (he could be a wide receiver) and Knowshon Moreno, who is kind of average everywhere else, deserve mention.
:goodposting: McFadden is the first one I thought of as well. He actually lines up out wide and can beat CBs on Flys and fades. He had a great catch towards the sidelines last week that was called back for a chop block. Any RB that can make sideline grabs is much more impressive than one who can catch a 3 yard screen pass and turn it into yards after the fact.

Peyton Hillis caught like 65 balls last year and didn't make your top 15?

Good lists, but my question is why don't the Vikings run more screens and more check downs to Adrian Peterson? He is great with the ball in his hands, why not give it to him more in space instead of lining up in I-formation to have the Def stack 8-9 in the box and run up the middle for 0-3 yards like I see the Vikings do every time I tune in?

Can he not catch at all? Got to be on the coaches right?

Kevin Faulk is still in the league (I think) so I would go with him.

Also, Reggie Bush has to be on the list at some point.

Because he's white.

I remember in his rookie season they lined up McFadden outside a lot and this was taken as a knock on him for not being able to run between the tackles. Now I understand he's more of a complete back, yes?

I actually had Hillis at 16, wasn't too high on him coming in. He is definitely a guy that catches a lot of balls too, but that was just for my overall ranking on running backs, for receiving backs Hillis is definitely right there due to the constant dump offs because of the pressure on McCoy.

I've watched Rice a ton more than the others so I can't really speak intelligently about anyone else. What I like about Rice's receiving game is that he can actually run patterns like a WR or a TE. He doesn't just float out horizontally 7 yards from Flacco and wait for the check-down. And Cam uses patterns where Ray's size doesn't work against him (most of the time - I saw them run Rice on a fade in the end zone and almost spit my beer all over the TV). Even when teams put a spy on him, he's difficult to cover because he's so short they often can't see him coming until he's running free in the middle of the field. Some of his patterns start with chipping a blitzer first, which makes it even harder for the D to find him. He knows how to find open spots and has great hands, plus he's a great runner in both traffic and the open field.

I don't know if he's the best, but he's a damned fine receiver (and runner, and blocker). As a Ravens fan, I wouldn't trade him for anyone else playing today. I'm sure fans of some of the other RBs mentioned feel the same way about their guy.

I think Detroit's Best has a shot to become elite in the passing game. He's extremely fast, does well in space and he plays a lot on fake turf. Having Calvin drawing the defense helps too.
With LeShoure coming back next year, Best won't be an every down back anymore.
blown achilles. don't hold your breath...
A torn achilles isn't career-ending. Curtis Martin tore his in college and was fine. He's a young guy and if he was ever going to succeed in the NFL he will, but the achilles won't be the reason he doesn't.Different position, but Julian Peterson torn his achilles and he was in the Pro Bowl three straight years after.
