The running game has me doubting their viability long term. For that reason I put them behind Dallas.

Let's revisit in 8 weeks.On paper, every game left is winnable. I think the toughest team they have to play is the Texans.
Their schedule does look good, which they are lucky their division is stinky this year, and they get to play the NFC West, but they still are not the best NFC team this year.

The problem is that "best team in the NFC" won't be a regular season thing. They have to win in the playoffs against some of the other teams listed here. I don't think NO has the D to hang with others in playoffs games.I'd put Dallas #1 but they are beatable. For some reason I'm not sold on GB yet (maybe because I'm from MN). Philly is a shambles in my opinion. The Giants have a chance but they need to keep their RBs healthy. Detroit is always left out of these dicussions but they could surprise everyone.I'd go Dallas, Giants, GB right now. With the way injuries are going it could be a number of different teams that NE runs the score up on in the SB.
I don't understand the love for the Giants. They've beaten a bunch of nobodies in their 6 game winning streak and struggled against the mighty Dolphins.Whenever this question arises there's always a few knuckleheads that want to put the Giants on top, which doesnt make sense at all to me. Yeah, theyve looked good but who have they played? What have they done to deserve it? Im not trying to discredit someone's opinion but when they barely squeak by Miami, their winning streak consists of mediocre or downright terrible teams (49ers, Falcons, Jets, Eagles, Redskins) and their two losses are against the two teams you listed behind them...it just doesnt make sense. Can someone who thinks that the Giants are better than both the Packers (who stomped them at NY) and Cowboys (who had a shoot out but was in control the whole game) please clarify?
And they got dominated by Green Bay......in the Meadowlands. The Giants have to be #3 on this list, until either: a) NY beats Dallas, b) NY beats Green Bay, c) Dallas and/or Green Bay loses 1-2 more games.Detroit HAS to be on the short list of top NFC teams. They're 6-2 now, with a battle against Green Bay upcoming on Thanksgiving. Oh, and Detroit faces the Giants in 2 weeks...Green Bay-Dallas on Nov. 29th. That should be a HUGE game.
You lost me right there. Sure, the weather should be nice and they'll be able to throw, but wouldn't it be better if the game was at GB?
The Giants defense was really banged up when they played the Packers. Not to say the Packers wouldn't have beaten them anyway, but their defense has looked much better since they have gotten healthy.

But they seem to be getting around that. The short passing game is working like a running game for them.What they have over Dallas is a better defense. Its what makes the gap closer (and Favre vs. Romo when its crunch time, give me Favre right now).I think GB's secondary can match up with the Dallas WRs (though, the injuries are not helping the past few weeks with Collins dinged now).
And doesn't Dallas have a pretty good passing game themselves?

One interesting note - this is an NFL Network game that will not be available for home viewing by many fans in Wisconsin - neither OTA due to blackout rules nor via cable, as Time Warner dominates here and does not carry NFLN.p.s. At the risk of stating the obvious, the fact that the Packers are even in this discussion is proof positive of the NFC's severe decline. I love this Packer team and they've now won 11 of their last 12, but anyone that has followed them closely knows that they could just as easily be 3-5 or even 2-6 right now rather than 7-1.

Redskins ain't exactly lighting the world on fire, but they're surprisingly very close to being a 1 loss team right now. They gave away wins vs the Giants and Packers, 2 teams in this NFC discussion and absolutely hammered the Lions, another team getting mentioned in this thread. If the Skins ever figure out how to throw a TD pass to a WR, watch out!
Oh really?The Saints' pass D may be pretty awful, but I bet you didn't realize they have one of the league's top rush defenses. Take a look at the numbers. We haven't allowed 100 yards rushing since week 1.
That is why they have the playoffs and the Superbowl...to show how meaningless regular season wins are. There are a ton of examples but one I remember well is a stomping Dallas took by the Eagles early in their '92 season.
