look, it’s impossible to compare eras and i get it, but in 61-62 chamberlain played 80 games, averaged 48.5 minutes, over 50 points and over 25 rebounds. he didn’t win as much as he should have and was pretty aloof, but he seems to be a top 3 to me. but then who doesn’t get in?
The fact Wilt only won one title while playing against mailmen is an automatic disqualifier for me for him to even be in the top-5. He played against people who look like the average poster on this message board and couldn’t get it done. Nonsense to have him over Kareem, Magic or Russell. Even Bird.
People are being too dismissive of Wilt. Unless you are named Lebron, winning championships is a TEAM accomplishment. Anyway I find it funny that everyone is critical of Wilt's competition when Russell's career largely overlapped Chamberlin's. They played the same competition, and Russell was anemic (reletively compared to Chamberlin) offensively . Sure Russell got the rings, but he was surrounded with talent like Havilcek, Cousy, and Jones. That said, I voted Kareem, but I very strongly considered Wilt.

If I remember correctly you are a LeBron is the goat guy. By this standard (and I don't agree with it) LeBron shouldn't be in the top 5. He has losing record in the finals because the ran into the Spurs and Warriors dynasties, he had to go to a super team in Miami to win his first 2 and then back to the Cavs after they had a ton of high draft picks and three number one overall picks.

Wilt made the finals 40 percent of the time he played. How many times do he lose to the Celtics dynasty? I believe it was 4. He also won 2 titles.

BTW, whomever thinks that Bill Russell was better or a greater player than Magic Johnson is simply dumb or a Boston homer or both.

Lebron made 10 finals in an era that is waaaaaaaaaaay more competitive than Wilt’s era. He was the undisputed best player on every one of those teams and won it 4 times.

You’re right I snubbed Wilt on a title but you don’t get in the top-5 conversation with one or two rings imo.

I’m not sure Lebron is #1 but he’s way closer to MJ than he is #3.

I just think you are wrong. I’m willing to say it - titles are overrated when evaluating players.

A whole lotta “you’re dumb if you think X” and “there is no argument” going on in here.

Good to see y’all are consistent with how you express your views.

I get that people want to knock Wilt for being aloof and not a great teammate. OK. But the exact opposite should be said of Magic. He was that leader, he was Showtime.

And Kareem is probably still #3.

Wilt Chamberlain averaged 30.0 points, 28.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 94 games versus Bill Russell in his career.

But Bill Russell was a milkman during his off-season to make ends meet so it doesn't count.

Who do you think is third greatest NBA player of all time?

My top 3 are:

Jordan
Wilt
Kareem

I would have Bird above Kareem if he played longer. Dude should have hired a paving company and we woulda had another 5-8 years of greatness.

I think he is the best player of all time. I am a big Kobe bryant fan here I have his tattoo his Kobe Bryant jacket, and things that has a picture of his.
