no way in hell Clueless Hue Jackson should've been retained. isn't it a state law that if you go 0-16 as an NFL head coach, you're AUTOMATICALLY fired?!

why'd he get a pass?? he's absolutely the worst head coach in NFL history. and what's better than an 0-16 coach actually getting the chance to become the NFL's first 0-17 coach!!! or 0-18, 0-32 coach!!! no sorry Cleveland does NOT rock...just check out this hastily made cleveland tourism video..

Lions should have hired hue.

Actually would like to see them hire Mike Vrabel. But they'll probably get Mike Patricia instead and he can double as the Hudson's Santa Clause.

Either Josh McDaniels or Jim Harbaugh to the Colts.  I think McDaniels learned from his first stint as a head coach and there is no denying what he can do offensively.  Harbaugh makes sense because of his past with Luck and has shown the ability to coach at the NFL level by his Super Bowl appearance.  Both have big name appeal and I'm sure that is attractive to Irsay and Ballard.  I hope that Irsay lets Ballard make the decision.

And the Bengals won’t fire Marvin because they can’t get Hue.   :wall:

It’s like two bankrupt kingdoms fighting over King Joffrey.

Shurmur to the Colts would be great but I'd imagine they get one of those KC guys. Actually any WCO guy would be awesome for Luck and Hilton.

Lewis is going to be fired, right?

Nobody calling for Harbaugh's head but they outta. Three straight years on the outside looking in, and to lose your season at home against a lousy team / lousy QB on 4th and 12 with 44 seconds left....cannot think of a worse way for the year to end. But Rings, so lifetime pass for him and Flacco.

Nagy has an in with Ballad, but there *might* be some kind of contingency plan w/ Nagy to replace Reid at some point down the road. Toub, I'm just not sure.

Does Indy really pick a HC based on relationship with Luck when there are still questions about his shoulder?

I really hope the Vikes don't lose Shurmur.
I think its inevitable.

Just hope he doesn't go to the Bears.

He is being talked about as one of the top offensive coaches for teams trying to focus on that side of the ball. So basically every vacancy will consider him. He will have options.

He isn't talking to any teams until after the playoffs are done though. So teams canning their coaches now will still have to wait awhile before they can talk to Pat.

He'll get his shoulder straightened out. It's either healing or he'll get another surgery. There's no way he retires.

Don't think Harbaugh and his personality fits into the Indiana culture too well.

Has he said that?

Assistant coaches with first-round bye in playoffs are allowed to interview. However, the interview must take place that week. Candidates can choose to decline the interview to focus on preparing their current team for the postseason.

If a team wins the WC or Divisional round, other teams must ask the teams permission. Remember, they changed the rules so coordinators on a Super Bowl run aren't at a disadvantage. Used to be NO interviews if you were still alive in the playoffs.

In all honesty I don't think his personality fits into the NFL culture too well.

He, like Saban, is much better in college. Long term anyway.

I realize he played for other teams but he'll always be a Colt in my mind from his playing days.
I'm more interested in his shown ability at the NFL level and the spark I know he will give the Colts.  One thing that bothers me about him is the personality issues he had with the 49'ers.

 I don't think he leaves Michigan.

If he doesn't start beating State and the Buckyeyes he won't be a fit in the Michigan culture either.  :P

But yeah, I always smile when his name gets brought up for any job. He's a favorite son, and though there have been some grumblings about being passed by Penn State & Wisconsion and not being able to compete against top 10 programs, he's not going anywhere.

Can someone explain to me how “29-51” as a HC of the lions” Jim Schwartz is getting interest from not one, but 2 NFL teams?

Yes he said that a couple times in recent interviews.

Why would you say that?  I don't believe he has all that much allegiance to Michigan besides playing for them.  I think he much prefers coaching in the NFL and coaching the team he came from within an Aaron Bailey Hail Mary of going to the Super Bowl outweighs anything Michigan can offer..  The Colts offer a great QB to start with (assuming he gets over his shoulder issues).  That is more appealing than you're giving credit to and if he really wants back in the NFL, having Luck as a foundation is very appealing IMO.  Looks like he may lose today as well.  I think his luster has dimmed quite a bit in Ann Arbor.

John DeFilippo - Bears.  Young qb and young talent being put into place.  Young GM. Perfect spot to come in and take over.

Doesn't seem like a wise move on his part. Teams aren't going to wait around on him possibly for weeks when he has this week to speak with them.

If he did want too leave Michigan you're right that the colts is probably the ideal fit. And he does need to start winning more games, especially against the big boys. He hasn't done as well as hoped but he'll get more time. And we're speculating but he seems to prefer college and the control he has there.

If interested go to the 4:19 mark of this interview with Pat Shurmur

He says he is focused on the task at hand and that it would be bad for any potential hire to not be focused on the job they are doing now.

He says this inst like college where you need to get a new staff and start recruiting right away, that you have more time in the NFL to assemble a staff and get going.

He talks about how he enjoyed being a head coach before with the Browns and that he has learned a lot about coaching since then.

He doesn't definitively say he won't interview with a team during the playoffs. But his tone and comments about being focused completely on the next game and nothing else, does suggest to me he won't interview with a team until the Vikings season is done.

This isn't the only interview where he has said this. Reporters have been asking him this question in interviews prior to this where he was saying the same thing. He is focused on the task at hand and the next game..

Is this something he said?  If not, how do you know this is the case?  I think he prefers the NFL because he's had the Super Bowl taste and success.

I seem to recall Harbaugh saying he prefers coaching in college around the time he left the 49ers.

Of course coaches will change their minds. It was more him putting spin on bailing on the 49ers than anything else most likely. I thought he kind of quit on the 49ers at the time actually.

Honestly I don't remember if he said it but it was said about him frequently during his last year in SF. Might have just been the front office couldn't handle his ego or didn't want to deal with his attitude. I don't know.

Harbaugh and the GM hated each other. As much as I hate Harbaugh he didn't quit on the 49er's, they fired him.

Agree with your last statement, but I mean for this year it’s highly improbable.

Yeah I don't recall if it was Harbaugh or others saying that about him or both right now either.

The 49ers had a lot of draft picks while he was there. They traded down a lot and had a lot of picks. Harbaugh used up all those picks and the team did start winning, although I think most of their good players were from the Singletary years, not acquired and developed by Harbaugh. In retrospect they kind of burned though a lot of assets that helped them improve short term, but Harbaugh did not guide all those young players to success. He quit. The team kind of collapsed following that, some of their stars got old.

I think Harbaugh likely saw that he was going to regress in terms of wins with the 49ers if he had stayed, so he got out while he was ahead. To me that is kind of cowardly. They used a ton of picks to build the team around what his philosophy was and then he bailed on them.

I may not be remembering all the details right now, but I do remember thinking it was somewhat lame and cowardly how he left the team at that time.

He hasn't been up to Michigan standards as a coach, despite all the experience and advantages you might think he has at an easier level of competition.

Maybe you are right and I am wrong.

I just can't help but remember him trying to get the rules changed to help running QBs and the read option. He was one of the coaches who took advantage of that and took the league by surprise a bit with it, but then when teams adjusted, he didn't have any new tricks. Instead trying to get the rules changed to help his trick keep working.

As a Colts fan I want JH as our next coach.  If not him, then Shurmer (sp?)  Thirdly Josh McDaniels (I think he has matured a lot).

I think if you got your wish, in a few years you'd want him gone.

I was hoping the Titans would for Mularkey and hire McDaniels.

Harbaugh and McDaniels would provide the most spark to the Colts, but in the end Shurmur may be the best coach.
