I need to keep 5 of these. No loss of draft picks or anything like that. Just keep 5.

Here is my team:

Santana, Carlos © CLE

Teixeira, Mark (1B) NYY

Kinsler, Ian (2B) TEX

Young, Michael (3B) TEX

Cabrera, Asdrubal (SS) CLE

Bautista, Jose (OF) TOR

Berkman, Lance (OF) STL

Holliday, Matt (OF) STL

Beltran, Carlos (OF) STL

Lucroy, Jonathan © MIL

Giavotella, Johnny (2B) KC

Jones, Chipper (3B) ATL

Ethier, Andre (OF) LAD

Hunter, Torii (OF) LAA

Morrison, Logan (OF) MIA

Sizemore, Grady (OF) CLE

Rollins, Jimmy (SS) PHI

Tabata, Jose (OF) PIT

Thinking...Bautista, Teixeira, Kinsler, Cabrera, Santana

That means that I am turning Holiday loose. Not sure I like that... Berkman and Young are strong as well, but probably not keepers?

Thoughts?

What does your lineup look like? Do you have a MI slot? 4 outfielders? 2 UTs?

The one I might remove from your list is Asdrubal. If you have enough places to put Holliday that he's worth keeping then I'd take him over Cabrera. But in a 3OF/1UT league I probably keep Cabrera.

this is what i was thinking.

It really depends on starting spots.

I Agree with the above guys, but if it's only a 1 C league I wouldn't be keeping Santana either.

Sorry. I should have included that. No Utl or CI or MI.

10 team league.

We start:

1 c

1 1B

1 2B

1 SS

1 3B

3 OF

1 DH (any position player)

Dump Santana then, never overpay for C's in 1 C leagues. Especially 10 teamers.

Bautista, Kinsler, Tex, Asdrubal, and Holliday.

Santana is a top-3 catcher, Asdrubal is not a top-3 shortstop. Santana > Asdrubal.

If you really, really believe in Cabrera then I'd keep him over Teix. I don't believe in him that much.

So for me, Bautista, Santana, Kinsler, Holliday, Teix

Is there pitching in this league? Do you have any?

The difference between the #3 catcher and #12 catcher is not much. The difference between the #5 ss and the #12 is a lot.
says who. The difference between santana and suzuki is astronomical. The difference between cabrera and someone like hardy or gordon or aybar is minimal.I play in a pts league santana scored 100 more pts than the 2 catcher last yr. And he plays everyday. That's huge

Well, Suzuki is my 21st ranked catcher so in that sense I agree ;) In a one c league I'm probably drafting Ramos, Salvador Perez, or Mesoraco unless someone falls. If I strike lightning in a bottle, great! If I don't then someone among the Yaider, Arencibia, Martin, etc. group that starts off cold and gets dropped will replace them. In the end, I don't see whoever is in my C spot to be too much worse than what I expect out of Santana - 75/25/85/3/.250 (assuming Choo bats 2nd and Kipnis 5th). How much of a difference and which cats depends on who I end up with, but the difference is marginal. I think the difference between Asdrubal and Hardy is huge. Dee and Aybar not as much, but both of those guys are in my top 9. A lot more risk associated with Dee and Aybar though, they're both slated to lead off now but a cold sart and that could be short lived. My #12 is Jay-Honey, who I really don't care for. I see Asdrubal around 90/25/90/15/.285 (more RBI's if Choo bats 2nd), Jay-Honey 60/20/75/.265. Pretty substantial difference imho. Hardy has a little more upside than Peralta due to his batting order spot offering more R opportunities, but his high injury risk relative to Peralta more than offsets that. A 2 C league is a lot different, but in a 1 C there's no reason to pay what's being asked for the top C's. There are much better options available.

you realize in his OP he plays in a pts league?

Pitching Staffs are drafted, not individual pitchers. Nobody keeps staffs...

I finished second in this league last year. Lost in the championship game mainly because Holiday got hurt that week.

Both guys were vital to a strong season! Holiday is on the downside and lost protection in the batting order. Should I consider dropping Holiday and keeping both Cabrera and Santana, or is a bounce-back inevitable?

Plenty of OF's to draft, I would keep the youth in Santana and Cabrera. You can have them for the next ten years, isn't that what keeper league is somewhat about?

I think you have the right keepers. You'll get one of Holliday or Berkman back. Santana is one of the preeminent offensive catchers right now in the game and will only get better for the next 4-5 years. While I have concerns that Asdrubal had an anomalous year last year, I don't doubt that he has enormous power potentail for a SS. He is worth the gamble.
