Who should I pick? (1 Viewer)

Head to head league need a pitcher Relievers score as well as Starters

Pick up soon.

Colby Lewis

Matt Garza

Jonathan Broxton

Matt Thornton

Shallow keeper league, probably wouldn't keep any.

Thanks for the help

Can't say for sure w/out knowing the scoring system. It seems like every H2H league is different. It depends on whether you're more confident in Broxton regaining his mojo or Thornton nailing down the closer's role.

With this scoring system, I like Thornton bestReasonable Thornton expectations70 IP, 85 K, 40 Sv, 3 W = 585 ptsReasonable Garza/Colby expectations...200 IP, 200 K, 15 W = 550 ptsI realize I didn't project CG or SHO for the starters, but how can you really project that? It's not like the old times where pitchers would get these regularly. Last year, those two were two of the better SP in the American League and they combined for 4 CG and 1 SHO. Garza had 3 of the CG and the lone shutout, and is now in the NL which may reduce his chances at staying in a game for 9 innings. Not to mention, in a head to head league a shutout will help you a lot the one week it happens but it's not something that will be there on a reliable basis.Which brings up another point. The SP will win 15-18 games in an excellent season, which means 0.6 wins per week. So in the weeks that your guy gets a win, score! But if he doesn't get a win, it makes it very difficult to get a ton of points from him. Meanwhile, the closers are going to average over a save per week even on a bad team. It provides for more consistent scoring IMO.

I was ready to say Colby until I saw the scoring system. I'd go with either of the closers. I think (hope) Broxton will rebound now that Torre is gone. He'd be my pick. Thorton is a good option as well.

Agreed, I think it comes down to which closer you like better but either way it should be one of the relievers.

Purely speculation, but I'm avoiding Broxton. The old inverted W (isnt that an "M"?) and drop in velocity last season leads me to believe a date with James Andrews is inevitible.

Hmm. I didn't know he had an inverted W. I am skeptical of that throwing motion.

Hmmmmm, are either of these guys guaranteed closing jobs this year? Brox may be injured, and the WS really like Sale I'm guessing both get the first shot at closing, but not without question marks

When it comes to closers and guarantees, there's Mariano. Then there's everyone else. So yeah, Thorton and Broxton aren't locks, but I'm willing to bet they'll be the guy.

Thorton>Broxton right now......Broxton scares the bejesus out of me.
I think Garza or Lewis would be the safer picks.Thorton is lights out in the 7th/8th, but when he had to fill in the closer roll in the past, he was less effective. Not terrible, he is just better as the set-up man. I really think Sale will end up being the closer.
