Who the heck is Kevin Ogletree? (1 Viewer)

I guess he's an undrafted free agent wide receiver for the Cowboys. Anybody know anything else about him? What's his deal?

was undrafted this year from Virginia. i like him quite a bit. hurd/crayton/roy are all similar. those 3 seem to be possesion guys with little burst, and yes roy has little burst. miles austin can stretch the field but really runs some poor routes.

ogletree is someone to keep an eye on. he has the separation that the others don't have. he has a knack for finding open creases in the defense. romo looked at him alot in preseason. ogletree if he wins a starting job is best suited in the slot IMO. i really like this kid and hope he has a chance this week with roy out.

I can tell you why your league mate picked him up:

He is featured as the "sleeper of the week" at fantasyfootballcafe

This probably means that your friend is a regular there. If you can figure out his handle you may be able to get some valuable insight.

I try to figure out where all my team-mates frequent. It can really help in auction format drafts. :lmao:

Many Cowboy homers will have seen him play this pre-season with good reviews. However, to draft this guy in any league is doubtful. He will likely dress this week for the first time this season. To project any catches or opportunities is nothing more then wishful thinking at this point.

I do really like him-but I don't see and Fantasy opportunity "yet".

He sounds like a lineman, hard to see him doing anything of note with that name.

I watched Kevin Ogletree play at Virginia a bunch. He's very quick and gets good separation, but he doesn't have great hands. That being said, he had some pretty good stats on UVA teams that had AWFUL QBs. If we had a good QB, he could have gotten some better national press. We were all shocked when he wanted to turn pro, but there were some rumors that he was a malcontent, caring only about his future career in the NFL.

He looked great in the preseason and could be a decent flyer if he gets a chance to play.

Oh, and BTW, if you play in a league that drafts the 5th WR on a team, that isn't a Shark League... it's a league full of Dungeons and Dragons afficianados and 25 year olds that live in Mom's basement.

In most of the shark leagues I play in he was drafted.
I've tried those 75-round drafts, they are tedious.
How many shark leagues do you play in? That's what I thought...
Wow, you're quite a tool. I guess I've learned over the years that anyone who actually posts their lineup in their sig is almost always a tool. You are a looooong way from being a shark, Jambi.

I don't pretend to know what a shark is, but I can bet that, whoever they are, they don't need to advertise their sharkdom.

Yeah, if you have to tell people how big of a deal you are ...............

This post should go down as one of those that is always remembered, a classic. Great post Jambi, I absolutely love the very serious responses. The guppies don't get it. Dumb###es.

massraider's response was entertaining as well.

Oh yeah, well I bet I'm sharkier than you!You may have 5 kickers, 2 punters, and a long-snapper on your team, but in MY league (the Super-Duper Sharkiest League Ever) we draft team orthopedists and team cheerleading choreographers.SHARK, baby!

If you were really a shark you'd be drafting some ball boys.................they get a lot of touches.

funny thread..I did draft him in a stupidly large IDP league (no long snappers though) where we drafted something life 135 rookie or so to place on a 15 man taxi squad based on reports that he looked good in off-season workouts. As i remember he did have decent production and nice athletic profile at UVA. I want to say that a couple of draftsperts around here thought Ogletree was draftable.

There was some talk about him as a UDFA to keep an eye on, and he was in my late-round flyer list. Certainly he was draftable, depending on how deep your league was. In fact, just searching "ogletree" pulls up mentions of him in quite a few threads.

How many shark leagues do you play in? 12 Team - Big Money Dynasty League - Standard Scoring - ISTP - Punting - Start 2 Kickers - Experts Only

QB - Garrard, Leinert

RB - ADP, L.T., Sproles, Donald Brown, Moreno, M Bush

WR - Boldin, Bowe, Harvin, Henry, Royal

TE - Keller, Finley

DST - Minnesota

K - Keading, Bironas, Scobee, Dawson, K. Brown

Punters - Chris Kluwe, Chris Hanson

Special Teams - Ayanbadejo, Rashad Washington, Kevin Bentley

Long Snapper - Binn

That's what I thought...
nice league that starts a long snapper.

He is definitely a reach at this point but he has good upside in a keeper or dynasty league. Dallas's other WRs have not stepped up so there is a job opening there. Gil Brandt liked him coming out of college and thinks Dallas got a good player in him so take that for what it's worth.

He is a cheap player with no risk and much upside. I would do it if I had a spot open.

He showed really good hands and superior route running skills in camp and Dallas's super stud kick off specialist said he wouldn't race him because he was too fast. Anyone that gets it will get this and anyone that doesn't will um.. not.

Buehler beat deangelo smith in a 40 yard dash. smith was cut after that....

5 kickers and a longsnapper... you rule...
Yo cut him some slack, it's a start 2 kicker league!!! I mean only a true shark can attempt to tackle the mind bending task of weekly kicker projections with all the Offensive possession analization, wind direction analysis, footware forensics... Dang i bet he's got a Doppler 10,000 tied to the back of that Dungeon & Dragons Scooter of his.

Just asked Dallas beat writer Tim MacMahon from ESPNDallas.com about what the Cowboys think of Ogletree - he said:

They think they hit on another undrafted gem. Wouldn't surprise if he was starter by year 3.

babe laufenberg, former dallas qb, current announcer, who's very close to the team said he just might be the 2nd best wr on the team.

he's also called miles austin and tony romo before they made it big.

Really liked what I saw of him out of San Antonio. On the field, seemed pretty smooth for a Rookie. If you're desparate for a comparison from a HWS perspective, think Marvin Harrison. Steady hands, good body control. Didn't see much to think he would be a physical force, generate any mismatches or be even the slightest bit punishing. With his height, weight and speed, he needs to run the routes perfectly, catch everything perfectly and either hold on for dear life or get his feet down perfectly. I liked the way he played, but I didn't walk away thinking I had seen the sun for the first time. He is a young 22. You walked away thinking he should definitely make the team and that he might very well turn into something better than Sam Hurd or Craptrick Crayton down the road, maybe not too far down the road, if he could gain the QB's confidence.

In the preseason, Roy Williams wasn't making too many people happy with his play, and a few (not most) commentators suggested the Cowboys should see more Ogletree.

I picked him up in as many leagues as I could. I said in other threads he's a threat to Roy Williams, but some say that Roy is Jerry Jones' favorite, but I say it won't matter in the end. The better player will win out eventually. Roy Williams has been overrated every year since he came into the league.

Beat writer Tim MacMahon believes WR Kevin Ogletree "ought to be ready to challenge" Roy Williams for a starting job with a good offseason.

All of the writers covering the team, as well as a good portion of the fans, are pushing for Ogletree to overtake Williams. The coaches (and certainly ownership) aren't ready to give up on Williams, however. Ogletree may begin eating into Williams' snaps next season, but he's a longshot to take the job outright.

He was eating into Roy's snaps at the end of last season and into the playoffs. Dallas designed several plays just to get him the ball and used them quite effectively against the Eagles.Ogletree has the look that Austin did a year or so ago. You can see the talent. He just needs time to develop and the opportunity to play.. I expect Roy will start early. But you're likely to see Ogletree more and more as the season wears on. Much like you saw with MB3 and Felix last year.

Shhhh. I'm bidding on him right now and I don't want a battle. :)
I live in Dallas. You're getting a battle.
I knew you were gonna be seeing that post from me. I was expecting you to bump up my bid. That's OK. I play dirty... ;)
lol. I wish you hadn't opened it so early. My plan was to try and wait a week so he'd get lost amongst other FAs.
Well my plan was to start as early as possible and try to get him before some people even knew the action was opened up. You ruined my plan... :boxing: But I think he is an interesting player. He definitely has speed and some talent from what I have seen but will he ever be allowed to beat out Roy Williams? I'm not sure. What I do know though is he will not be beating out Austin who I feel has entrenched himself as Romo's #1 target. Not sure how high I'm willing to go on him. Might have to settle on getting him in another league where I have more money.

"oggie oglethorpe? Oh ####, I thought he was in prison."
Oh this young man has had a very trying rookie season, with the litigation, the notoriety, his subsequent deportation to Canada and that country's refusal to accept him, well, I guess that's more than most 21-year-olds can handle... Ogie Ogilthorpe!
