Who will be the #1 D/ST this year in redrafts? (1 Viewer)

Haven't seen much talk about this lately. Here's my top reasons to take Minn this year:

1. They were top 5 in almost all scoring systems last year. This team was absolutely brutal against the run.

2. They have now added Jared Allen to their already monstrous defense.

3. They get to play Detroit/Chicago twice in their division. That would be the Chicago QB turnover machine and the porous Det. O-line sackfest.

4. They can sometimes be had for the 3rd-4th D/ST off the board and going later this year than in the past due to the Balt/Chicago flops last year for people that reached.

5. They have an elite run game to help control the clock and should be in some low scoring games this year.

Value plays--Tenn, TB

My experience with def/ST is that there are always a couple of top 10 defenses that make the waiver wire. This is where the real value is. The same goes for kickers. I always wait until the last few rounds to pick up a DEF/ST and kicker. This has worked pretty well for me.

I do agree with this, but this topic was to discuss who you think is going to be the #1 defense, not necessarily the best strategy in drafting a D/ST. Not picking on you, but I can see this taking a wrong direction quickly. Some people still prefer to be the 1st one to take a defense and would be nice to talk about which one is predicted to be at the top and why.

ne

sd

sea will get a lot of sacks, a league that scores big for sacks will have them near #3 imo ...

i would never pretend to think i'd be able to tell who the #1 defense will be.

i would guess minny, though. only because they get 6 games with rex grossman, jon kitna, and rodgers/favre.

take a look at SDiego's schedule - close the thread

arguably top DST anyways before schedule even taken into account

closing run of week 13-16 of...

Atlanta

Oakland

@Kansas City

@Tampa Bay

also a nice start of ...

Carolina

@Denver

NY Jets

@Oakland

@Miami

just find a DST to cover the tuff middle schedule NE, @NO, @Pit, Indy

I agree that the Vikes should be good with the pass rush theyll probably now have. But I like a playmaking secondary, and none is better than the Chargers, imo. Id want some part of that D that includes both Merriman and Cromartie. Sproles in the return game just adds to the value of that unit. Theyve also got a pretty nice schedule.

Certainly the Giants, Dallas and NE will all be good. But for my money, give me San Diego.

:rant: right on.

I think the Chargers are still a good bet.
Seconded...SD has IMO the better all around defense, across the board. I also believe San Diego has a much better overall offense than Minnesota, which undoubtedly adds more value to their defense. Add to that the fact that I believe they have a better schedule than Minnesota, and arguably play in just as weak of a division, if not weaker depending on your view of Denver. All of this depends greatly on scoring formats, it really does. In leagues that heavily award/penalize you for "points allowed", I'd really love to see a vast improvement in Minnesota's secondary this year before locking them into the #1 spot. New England, well, they're always in this discussion, and have probably the easiest schedule of the three. I'd be happy with any of SD, NE or MIN this year though. All 3 have the tools to take the #1 spot down, but for now, that's the order in which I have them ranked.As far as the "value plays" this year, a few of mine...TEN - With Haynesworth, no way they finish outside the top 10. For some reason, they're slipping in drafts I've seen.N.O. - If you believe they're a playoff contender, which I do, then they shouldn't be ranked in the bottom half of the league. Every playoff team last year finished no worse than 14th in many standard leagues, with many of the "bubble teams" not far behind. They certainly have the schedule this year to pull it off.

:hey: right on.
let me add that i see one of Minny's arguments that they play Kitna, Grossman, and Favre 6 timesMinny's big weakness is pass defense and how about covering Roy, Calvin, Jennings, Driver, JJones with passes from two veteran QBsbut even if you like that you still lose to this...Croyle/Thigpen twice, Russel twice, and a Marshall-less Cutler in week two once (the Denver game WITH Marshall is fantasy non-playoff Week 17 :rolleyes: )

:boxing: right on.
:lmao: I'm with you guys. Not close for me. My sleeper is the Packers. With Kampman and KGB, they figure to get plenty of sacks and their division opponents are prone to turnovers.

Yup, gotta be San Diego, though I will say the scoring system does matter a bit in terms of the rankings for sure. I locked them up in my ultimate draft for League 5 which had a strong defensive scoring bias.-QG
