I've been thinking about this and I believe there are fantasy point to be had here, but I'm not certain they are going to be distributed the way some think they are.
In Washington, there is a new GM, a new head coach, a new offensive coordinator, and a new QB. Basically, you can forget about anything that has gone on before when trying to figure out what's going to happen this year.
Both Shanahans seem to like to throw to the TE, as does McNabb. There is also talent at TE on the team. So I think someone is going to produce pretty well at that position. But who?
Cooley was literally the team poster boy over the past couple of seasons and he has proven that he is a reliable target in the passing game. He's a very effective receiver, though not a huge "big play" guy.
Fred Davis is a very talented young guy who had 5 TDs in a four game stretch last year as a starter. In fact, he was the team's best receiver over the last part of the season, and essentially a top 5 TE during that stretch. On the other hand, he had a fairly slow start to his career, and has only really shown signs of real success for a half a season.
"They" always say you can't lose your job due to injury, but in reality, I'm not sure that's true. It's altogether possible that Fred Davis is a better receiver than Chis Cooley, and since the new regime has no real ties to Cooley I'm not sure he's a lock to be the go-to receiver at TE going forward.
