Feel free to answer with "none" or with the same player (i.e. Jamal Lewis will be this season's Jamal Lewis). Note that I didn't include Brady, Moss, and Peterson, as those sorts of leaps are unlikely to be repeated.

On to the questions:

Who will be this year's version of:

Braylon Edwards/Brandon Marshall (young WR who takes a massive step forward, realizes his potential. and lives up to the hype) ?

Jamal Lewis (veteran RB who surprises with a great season) ?

Jason Witten (TE who takes a big step forward) ?

Roddy White (WR who largely flies under the radar and quietly puts up Top 20 WR numbers) ?

Derrick Mason/Joey Galloway/Bobby Engram (veteran WR's who show they still have a lot left in the tank) ?

Dwayne Bowe (the rare rookie WR who makes a real impact) ?

Marshawn Lynch (rookie RB who puts up strong numbers) ?

Earnest Graham/Ryan Grant (RB who seemingly comes out of nowhere to make a huge impact and win championships for many owners) ?

Derek Anderson (QB cinderella story) ?

Roy Williams (promising young WR who gets drafted as a WR1 in many leagues and takes a step back) ?

Cedric Benson (young RB in a good situation who can't take advantage and ends up being a bust) ?

Santana Moss (veteran WR who ends up disappointing) ?

Vincent Jackson (young WR who owners draft with expectation that they'll break out, but ends up disappointing) ?

Depends who gets hurt and gets a lot more looks than expected. Ray Rice? Jerious Norwood?

Matt Schaub

Roy Williams (promising young WR who gets drafted as a WR1 in many leagues and takes a step back) ?

Braylon Edwards, Calvin Johnson, Greg Jennings

Cedric Benson (young RB in a good situation who can't take advantage and ends up being a bust) ?

Matt Forte (although not all his fault)

On to the questions:

Who will be this year's version of:

Braylon Edwards/Brandon Marshall (young WR who takes a massive step forward, realizes his potential. and lives up to the hype) ? Brandon Marshall will be this year's version of Brandon Marshall..100 rec, 1200 yards, 12 tds

Jamal Lewis (veteran RB who surprises with a great season) ? Larry Johnson/Fred Taylor

Jason Witten (TE who takes a big step forward) ? Owen Daniels/LJ Smith/ZACH MILLER

Roddy White (WR who largely flies under the radar and quietly puts up Top 20 WR numbers) ? Cotchery, Steve Smith (NYG)

Derrick Mason/Joey Galloway/Bobby Engram (veteran WR's who show they still have a lot left in the tank) ? Derrick Mason ( you answered your own question)

Dwayne Bowe (the rare rookie WR who makes a real impact) ? keyword: rare. there isn't a rookie WR who'll post numbers similar to Bowe's from last season..

Marshawn Lynch (rookie RB who puts up strong numbers) ? McFadden.. 1500 rush yards, 15 tds.

Earnest Graham/Ryan Grant (RB who seemingly comes out of nowhere to make a huge impact and win championships for many owners) ? Slaton, Sproles, Fred Taylor

Derek Anderson (QB cinderella story) ? Shaub

Roy Williams (promising young WR who gets drafted as a WR1 in many leagues and takes a step back) ? Bowe - Gailey's offense doesn't suit him well..

Cedric Benson (young RB in a good situation who can't take advantage and ends up being a bust) ? MJD

Santana Moss (veteran WR who ends up disappointing) ? Nate Burleson

Vincent Jackson (young WR who owners draft with expectation that they'll break out, but ends up disappointing) ? Calvin Johnson

Looks like a fun thread - here's my predictions in bold:

Feel free to answer with "none" or with the same player (i.e. Jamal Lewis will be this season's Jamal Lewis). Note that I didn't include Brady, Moss, and Peterson, as those sorts of leaps are unlikely to be repeated.

On to the questions:

Braylon Edwards/Brandon Marshall (young WR who takes a massive step forward, realizes his potential. and lives up to the hype) ? Calvin Johnson

Jamal Lewis (veteran RB who surprises with a great season) ? Thomas Jones

Jason Witten (TE who takes a big step forward)? Vernon Davis

Roddy White (WR who largely flies under the radar and quietly puts up Top 20 WR numbers) ? Tedd Ginn Jr. or Bryant Johnson

Derrick Mason/Joey Galloway/Bobby Engram (veteran WR's who show they still have a lot left in the tank) ? Javon Walker

Dwayne Bowe (the rare rookie WR who makes a real impact) ? Josh Morgan or Desean Jackson

Marshawn Lynch (rookie RB who puts up strong numbers) ? Johnathan Stewart

Earnest Graham/Ryan Grant (RB who seemingly comes out of nowhere to make a huge impact and win championships for many owners) ? Pierre Thomas or Chris Perry

Derek Anderson (QB cinderella story) ? Jake Delhomme

Roy Williams (promising young WR who gets drafted as a WR1 in many leagues and takes a step back) ? Braylon Edwards

Cedric Benson (young RB in a good situation who can't take advantage and ends up being a bust) ? Kevin Smith

Santana Moss (veteran WR who ends up disappointing) ? Torry Holt or Plaxico Burres

Vincent Jackson (young WR who owners draft with expectation that they'll break out, but ends up disappointing) ? Bernard berrian

James Hardy will have a productive year as a rookie WR. The guy is like Chris Carter, all he does is catch touchdowns. He will be the best WR of this years draft.

Calvin Johnson - I also like Holmes and Bowe, but I don't see the massive upside of Calvin.

Jamal Lewis (veteran RB who surprises with a great season) ?

Thomas Jones - "Great" might be a stretch, but he should be better than last season.

Jason Witten (TE who takes a big step forward) ?

Zach Miller - Not an elite talent, but he'll catch a lot of balls by default.

Roddy White (WR who largely flies under the radar and quietly puts up Top 20 WR numbers) ?

Santana Moss - Forgotten man is a constant threat for a 1100+ yard season.

Derrick Mason/Joey Galloway/Bobby Engram (veteran WR's who show they still have a lot left in the tank) ?

Terrell Owens - Nearing the end, but still going strong.

Dwayne Bowe (the rare rookie WR who makes a real impact) ?

Dustin Keller - Should grow up fast in this offense. Royal and Jackson will make some plays, but not enough to be startable in most leagues.

Marshawn Lynch (rookie RB who puts up strong numbers) ?

Jonathan Stewart - I think he'll eclipse 1,000 rushing yards and be a startable RB2.

Earnest Graham/Ryan Grant (RB who seemingly comes out of nowhere to make a huge impact and win championships for many owners) ?

Brandon Jackson - Grant is brittle with a suspect track record before last season. I could see Jackson emerging here. Ray Rice, Felix Jones, and Chris Perry have a chance.

Derek Anderson (QB cinderella story) ?

Kurt Warner - I think the Cardinals could sneak attack the NFC West this season. O'Sullivan, Edwards, Quinn, Kolb, and Schaub also have upside.

Roy Williams (promising young WR who gets drafted as a WR1 in many leagues and takes a step back) ?

Dwayne Bowe - Like his talent a lot, but Croyle is a major question mark.

Cedric Benson (young RB in a good situation who can't take advantage and ends up being a bust) ?

Matt Forte - Overrated talent on a terrible team.

Santana Moss (veteran WR who ends up disappointing) ?

Chad Johnson - Great talent, but the injury looms as a major threat to his production.

Vincent Jackson (young WR who owners draft with expectation that they'll break out, but ends up disappointing) ?

Reggie Brown - Some people still think he's more than a perennial 850 yard WR.

Roy Williams (promising young WR who gets drafted as a WR1 in many leagues and takes a step back) ? only WR that would fit the mold is Braylon but I don't see him taking a step back. Most WR1's this year are 5+ year vets

Cedric Benson (young RB in a good situation who can't take advantage and ends up being a bust) ? Mendenhall

Santana Moss (veteran WR who ends up disappointing) ? Berrian

Vincent Jackson (young WR who owners draft with expectation that they'll break out, but ends up disappointing) ? Dwayne Bowe, strictly due to Croyle

Who will be this year's version of:

Braylon Edwards/Brandon Marshall (young WR who takes a massive step forward, realizes his potential. and lives up to the hype) ? Hard to say any qualify for me, but Bowe & Hardy would be my breakout candidates. If you can count S.Holmes as breakout, I say he finishes very high. Biggest improvement from last year, C.J.II. It really depends on the definition of breakout. Could concider Cotchery too.

Jamal Lewis (veteran RB who surprises with a great season) ? T.Jones #1, A.Green #2

Jason Witten (TE who takes a big step forward) ? Z.Miller

Roddy White (WR who largely flies under the radar and quietly puts up Top 20 WR numbers) ? S.Rice

Derrick Mason/Joey Galloway/Bobby Engram (veteran WR's who show they still have a lot left in the tank) ? Harrison, Ward, Muhammed, Bruce - in about that order. I'm taking this to mean which WRs are expected to fall off a cliff. T.O. will be the highest fpts compared to age. Honorable mention, Driver.

Dwayne Bowe (the rare rookie WR who makes a real impact) ? Hardy

Marshawn Lynch (rookie RB who puts up strong numbers) ? Chris Johnson in ppr

Earnest Graham/Ryan Grant (RB who seemingly comes out of nowhere to make a huge impact and win championships for many owners) ? I don't predict injury

Derek Anderson (QB cinderella story) ? My translation does not include QBs who have been top guns @ one point before, so no Delhomme or Warner. Rodgers, T.Edwards

Roy Williams (promising young WR who gets drafted as a WR1 in many leagues and takes a step back) ? Colston, Chad85

Cedric Benson (young RB in a good situation who can't take advantage and ends up being a bust) ? None. I can't say that I see a booger in this year's crop. Maybe Perry, if you still concider him young.

Santana Moss (veteran WR who ends up disappointing) ? Galloway, Mason

Vincent Jackson (young WR who owners draft with expectation that they'll break out, but ends up disappointing) ? Ginn, Burleson, Clayton (Bal)

McFadden and CJ3

Chris Perry (if he counts)

I'd almost go with "none" because there aren't many unproven WRs being taken that high, but Calvin Johnson

Matt Forte, but the situation isn't good

Hines Ward

Ted Ginn

Jamal Lewis (veteran RB who surprises with a great season) ? LJ / FWP

Jason Witten (TE who takes a big step forward) ? I like three. They are all the best WR's on their team. Vernon Davis, Greg Olsen, Zach Miller.

Roddy White (WR who largely flies under the radar and quietly puts up Top 20 WR numbers) ? Chambers / Cotchery

Derrick Mason/Joey Galloway/Bobby Engram (veteran WR's who show they still have a lot left in the tank) ? Mason / Hines Ward

Dwayne Bowe (the rare rookie WR who makes a real impact) ? don't like any of them really. Hardy because of opportunity

How does Aaron Rodgers qualify as a cinderella story? He is a first round pick that is playing on a former 13-3 team. His situation is totally different than Derek Anderson's last year.

More than those chosing Delhomme (who has finished highly in ffb and been to a Super Bowl. Schaub was not a LATE pick. Not all of these ?s were worded as well as they could be, and this one should have been omitted.

Agreed, Yudkin will be wrong about Calvin Johnson, but I think you missed the point of some of the questions.Everyone, raise your hand if you know of someone older than 11 or not a KC fan who drafted Bowe as WR1.

Who will be this year's version of:

Braylon Edwards/Brandon Marshall (young WR who takes a massive step forward, realizes his potential. and lives up to the hype) ? Brandon Marshall as a top-5 WR, possibly #1 per game

Jamal Lewis (veteran RB who surprises with a great season) ? Chris Perry, assuming he's veteran enough

Jason Witten (TE who takes a big step forward) ? Randy McMichael, he'll love Saunders offense

Roddy White (WR who largely flies under the radar and quietly puts up Top 20 WR numbers) ? Nate Burleson, I think he'll be even better than White was

Derrick Mason/Joey Galloway/Bobby Engram (veteran WR's who show they still have a lot left in the tank) ?Marvin Harrison

Dwayne Bowe (the rare rookie WR who makes a real impact) ? Josh Morgan, I think DeSean Jackson will be good as well

Marshawn Lynch (rookie RB who puts up strong numbers) ? Chris Johnson

Earnest Graham/Ryan Grant (RB who seemingly comes out of nowhere to make a huge impact and win championships for many owners) ? Maurice Morris

Derek Anderson (QB cinderella story) ? J.T. O' Sullivan

Roy Williams (promising young WR who gets drafted as a WR1 in many leagues and takes a step back) ? Santonio Holmes

Cedric Benson (young RB in a good situation who can't take advantage and ends up being a bust) ? Marshawn Lynch

Santana Moss (veteran WR who ends up disappointing) ? Plaxico Burress

Vincent Jackson (young WR who owners draft with expectation that they'll break out, but ends up disappointing) ? Vincent Jackson again

Braylon Edwards/Brandon Marshall (young WR who takes a massive step forward, realizes his potential. and lives up to the hype) ?

Calvin Johnson

Jamal Lewis (veteran RB who surprises with a great season) ?

Larry Johnson

Jason Witten (TE who takes a big step forward) ?

Anthony Fasano

Roddy White (WR who largely flies under the radar and quietly puts up Top 20 WR numbers) ?

Anthony Gonzalez

Derrick Mason/Joey Galloway/Bobby Engram (veteran WR's who show they still have a lot left in the tank) ?

Issac Bruce

Dwayne Bowe (the rare rookie WR who makes a real impact) ?

James Hardy

Marshawn Lynch (rookie RB who puts up strong numbers) ?

Ray Rice

Earnest Graham/Ryan Grant (RB who seemingly comes out of nowhere to make a huge impact and win championships for many owners) ?

Steve Slaton

Derek Anderson (QB cinderella story) ?

Kyle Orton

Roy Williams (promising young WR who gets drafted as a WR1 in many leagues and takes a step back) ?

Brandon Marshall

Cedric Benson (young RB in a good situation who can't take advantage and ends up being a bust) ?

Laurence Maroney

Santana Moss (veteran WR who ends up disappointing) ?

Marvin Harrison

Vincent Jackson (young WR who owners draft with expectation that they'll break out, but ends up disappointing) ?

Sidney Rice

Nice thread; I'll take a crack at playing Carnac the Magnificient:

Who will be this year's version of:

Braylon Edwards/Brandon Marshall (young WR who takes a massive step forward, realizes his potential. and lives up to the hype) ?

It won't be a WR at all - it'll be a TE: Vernon Davis

Jamal Lewis (veteran RB who surprises with a great season) ?

Willis McGahee

Jason Witten (TE who takes a big step forward) ?

Since I already said Vernon Davis earlier, I'll go with another - I'm expecting Leonard Pope to become a starting-quality TE this season

Roddy White (WR who largely flies under the radar and quietly puts up Top 20 WR numbers) ?

Bernard Berrian

Derrick Mason/Joey Galloway/Bobby Engram (veteran WR's who show they still have a lot left in the tank) ?

Oddly, he sort of qualifies in this category for this season: Chad Johnson. People are drafting him way too low.

Dwayne Bowe (the rare rookie WR who makes a real impact) ?

DeSean Jackson, although his impact will be greater on special teams than in fantasy numbers.

Marshawn Lynch (rookie RB who puts up strong numbers) ?

Chris Johnson & Kevin Smith will both be in the running for OROY.

Earnest Graham/Ryan Grant (RB who seemingly comes out of nowhere to make a huge impact and win championships for many owners) ?

Brandon Jackson & Jerious Norwood could both deliver huge, and they're both often available in the final round of a draft.

Derek Anderson (QB cinderella story) ?

J.T. O'Sullivan - a.k.a. "The Kurt Warner Story, Part Deux" (of course, the sequel is never quite as good as the original... :scared: ).

Roy Williams (promising young WR who gets drafted as a WR1 in many leagues and takes a step back) ?

Santonio Holmes - he's a great talent, but the presence of Hines Ward and the Pittsburgh offensive schemes will limit his numbers to high-WR2 production, not a clear-cut fantasy #1.

Cedric Benson (young RB in a good situation who can't take advantage and ends up being a bust) ?

Ryan Grant & Ernest Graham - both have "one year wonder" written all over them, especially Grant.

Santana Moss (veteran WR who ends up disappointing)?

Marvin Harrison - it's over. On that note, go grab Anthony Gonzalez NOW; he's a HUGE "low risk, high reward" candidate. I'm also not touching Nate Burleson - yes, he's got great opportunity... but he's managed to squander that PLENTY of times in his career already; why should this one be different?

Vincent Jackson (young WR who owners draft with expectation that they'll break out, but ends up disappointing) ?

Ted Ginn, Jr. - if any WR is going to put up serviceable numbers on the Miami offense, it'll be Derek Hagan... and even that's a long shot.

you had me up until this one. No way does CJ end up disappointing...If anything he moves up into that first question.. Brandon Marshall...

Braylon Edwards/Brandon Marshall (young WR who takes a massive step forward, realizes his potential. and lives up to the hype) ?

Calvin Johnson - lock of the year

Jamal Lewis (veteran RB who surprises with a great season) ?

great season - none, decent season - Larry Johnson

Jason Witten (TE who takes a big step forward) ?

Zach Miller, only because Owen Daniels cannot take a much bigger step from his 60 rec last year

Roddy White (WR who largely flies under the radar and quietly puts up Top 20 WR numbers) ?

Nate Burleson, 5th year WR, by default he gets his opportunity to shine

Derrick Mason/Joey Galloway/Bobby Engram (veteran WR's who show they still have a lot left in the tank) ?

Donald Driver

Dwayne Bowe (the rare rookie WR who makes a real impact) ?

DeSean Jackson

Marshawn Lynch (rookie RB who puts up strong numbers) ?

Jonathan Stewart

Earnest Graham/Ryan Grant (RB who seemingly comes out of nowhere to make a huge impact and win championships for many owners) ?

Chris Perry

Derek Anderson (QB cinderella story) ?

Matt Schaub

Roy Williams (promising young WR who gets drafted as a WR1 in many leagues and takes a step back) ?

Braylon, only because there's no way he duplicates last year's numbers. Holmes 2nd, as he will nowhere near post 80-1200-8, and he's being drafted as early as mid 3rd round in a lot of leagues as a WR1.

Cedric Benson (young RB in a good situation who can't take advantage and ends up being a bust) ?

Thomas Jones, i believe he's done

Santana Moss (veteran WR who ends up disappointing) ?

Joey Galloway

Vincent Jackson (young WR who owners draft with expectation that they'll break out, but ends up disappointing) ?

Ted Ginn

Who will be this year's version of:

Braylon Edwards/Brandon Marshall (young WR who takes a massive step forward, realizes his potential. and lives up to the hype) ?

Jerrico Cotchery - it seems as though he and Favre have hit it off

Jamal Lewis (veteran RB who surprises with a great season) ?

Lawrence Maroney - While not someone who you traditionally think of as a vet RB(still young), I can easily see him far exceeding his projections for this year.

Jason Witten (TE who takes a big step forward) ?

Zach Miller/Randy McMichael - I don't expect them to take the leap to elite status the way Witten did, but they will exceed their expectations. If I'm guessing who could explode into the elite TE, I go with Greg Olsen(but it's a long shot)

Roddy White (WR who largely flies under the radar and quietly puts up Top 20 WR numbers) ?

Lee Evans - Owners are down on him this year, but this could be the breakout year people were expecting last year.

Derrick Mason/Joey Galloway/Bobby Engram (veteran WR's who show they still have a lot left in the tank) ?

Derrick Mason/Joey Galloway - Still providing value as lesser WRs get selected before them.

Dwayne Bowe (the rare rookie WR who makes a real impact) ?

NONE - Rookie WRs rarely make that kind of impact, and this was not a good class for WRs

Marshawn Lynch (rookie RB who puts up strong numbers) ?

Darren McFadden - ...and he's going to have to simply to justify where people are selecting him.

Earnest Graham/Ryan Grant (RB who seemingly comes out of nowhere to make a huge impact and win championships for many owners) ?

Andre Hall - I had a hard time with this one since it seems like you have to project injuries. I decided not to do that and simply went with Skeletor being Skeletor.

Derek Anderson (QB cinderella story) ?

Vince Young - Not sure what qualifies here, but I think Vince Young can prove a lot of his doubters wrong this year despite the lack of talent around him

Roy Williams (promising young WR who gets drafted as a WR1 in many leagues and takes a step back) ?

Wes Welker - He benefitted being part of that record-setting year with Brady, I can see him regressing into mediocrity this year

Cedric Benson (young RB in a good situation who can't take advantage and ends up being a bust) ?

Matt Forte - Depending on year, insert overhyped Bears young RB here

Santana Moss (veteran WR who ends up disappointing) ?

Marvin Harrison - Still getting drafted very high, too high as far as I'm concerned. He has to slow down eventually, right?

Vincent Jackson (young WR who owners draft with expectation that they'll break out, but ends up disappointing) ?

Calvin Johnson - I like Megatron, but he might wind up disappointing those who are counting on him to be a WR1

You can't keep people from using their inane pet names for their man crushes (AD, Moose, DMC, <anything>-Mac). It gives them comfort and a sense of unification with their football comrades.
I don't mind nicknames. What I don't understand is why compare the next supposedly unstoppable force in the NFL at WR (Calvin Johnson) with a giant robot who got his ### kicked by Shia LaBeouf?

Again, Ask Roy Williams...WR for Detroit Lions and team mate for Calvin. Its not like someone on the board made the name up for him. Roy has changed his nickname though.....

Detroit Lions WR Roy Williams has changed his nickname for Calvin Johnson from Megatron to "Bolt," after Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt. Bolt is a Jamaican who took gold in the 100- and 200-meters, earning the title of World's Fastest Human. "I know I can't run with that guy," Willliams said of Calvin. "I'm fast, but he's...he's the Randy Moss of the 2000 era. He's a Bolt. He's 6-5 and he's a 9.69 guy," referring to Bolt's time in the 100.

On to the questions:

Who will be this year's version of:

Braylon Edwards/Brandon Marshall (young WR who takes a massive step forward, realizes his potential. and lives up to the hype) ? Calvin Johnson is easy pick so I'll go out and say "massive" steps by Steve Smith (NYG), Robert Meachem, and Ted Ginn

Jamal Lewis (veteran RB who surprises with a great season) ? Not many veteran RBs to choose from, but I think Edge has a nice year this season, but "Police Academy" Hightower will steal TDs.

Jason Witten (TE who takes a big step forward) ? I've been saying Vernon Davis for 2 years, but this season I like Marcedes Lewis to post much better numbers

Roddy White (WR who largely flies under the radar and quietly puts up Top 20 WR numbers) ? Vincent Jackson

Derrick Mason/Joey Galloway/Bobby Engram (veteran WR's who show they still have a lot left in the tank) ? Hines Ward and Marvin Harrison will both show they're still gamers.

Dwayne Bowe (the rare rookie WR who makes a real impact) ? My gut says none of the rookie WR will post Bowe numbers, but "opportunity" presents for DeSean Jackson and Josh Morgan

Marshawn Lynch (rookie RB who puts up strong numbers) ? I really like Kevin 'Silent Bob" Smith as I think he's a Curtis Martin type player. In PPR format "Flash" Johnson could be special.

Earnest Graham/Ryan Grant (RB who seemingly comes out of nowhere to make a huge impact and win championships for many owners) ? Chris Perry came to mind in my draft a couple of weeks ago. If Brandon Jackson can pass block, and if Ricky can be Ricky, they'll be two who will help teams to championships

Derek Anderson (QB cinderella story) ? I think John Kitna will quietly post 30 TDs this season.

Roy Williams (promising young WR who gets drafted as a WR1 in many leagues and takes a step back) ? Holmes and Bowe are going too early in my opinion, but will still be solid. I think Plax takes a step back or two.

Cedric Benson (young RB in a good situation who can't take advantage and ends up being a bust) ? Don't think there's any in a "good" situation who will bust. Disappointments will come from Willie Parker and Selvin Young.

Santana Moss (veteran WR who ends up disappointing) ? Plaxico, Santana Moss (again) and if there's a God in Heaven Chad Johnson implodes.

Vincent Jackson (young WR who owners draft with expectation that they'll break out, but ends up disappointing) ? Anthony Gonzalez.

My point is that we are not obligated to adopt nickname usage if said nickname is stupid or makes no sense.
