Who will be your "second team" in 2008? (1 Viewer)

Portis 26

Madden Freak
There is one team to whom my allegiance is forever committed.

But that having been said, every year, I like to have a "second" and even a "third" team that I will also favor. Not with such passion as my #1 team, more as a kind of fun option, a team that is going to be interesting to watch.

These "second" teams obviously can change every year depending on their personnel and situation. What makes a backup team fun to root for one year may have changed by next year.

This year I am going to have a soft spot for the Cleveland Browns. They should have made the playoffs last year and I thought if they had done so they would have made some noise. I like how their big-armed QB came out of nowhere. I like how they have a triplet of highly talented guys with a history of major injuries - Kellen Winslow, Braylon Edwards and Jamal Lewis. I have a soft spot for the franchise because they have had such a wretched time since being reformed, but they have the amazing history of the AAFC in the 1950s, Otto Graham, etc.

I also think the Cowboys are going to be fun to watch. I like how Jerry Jones is doing the whole riverboat gambler thing, rolling the dice on always these former miscreants like TO, Pacman and Tank. Their offense last year was sensational and I think with Felix Jones they'll be even dynamic. If Glenn stays on the roster it would be a nice story for him too. Romo deserves a playoff win too after the last couple of occasions. The broader picture is also that this is a storied franchise that hasn't had much success since the Troy, Michael and Emmitt days and it would be interesting to see them return to their former dominance.

My second team tends to be a team from the NFC (as I'm a fan of an AFC team - Colts) and is often influenced by my FF team. Year before last it was NO as I had Brees and last year it was MIN as I had AD. Both teams were great to watch as well, which helped.

My #1 team is always Denver. My #2 team is always Denver South. I liked them even before Kubiak joined and started remaking the roster in the image of his former team, but since the transition, there's been no question who the B-squad is.

Packers - I always gravitate to the other cold weather teams (that don't play in domes), this time GB because of all the young talent and the loss of Brett Favre should be interesting

Ari - Still comparing Tomlin to Whisenhunt and Grimm.

The Dolphins have always been my team. :hophead:

And since I live in the Cincy area... It's always been the Bengals when they aren't playing Miami. :headbang:

I also root for an NFC team, the Packers.

As a Bear fan it pains me to say this, but I am quietly rooting for the Vikings. I really like what they are doing up there, and I am a Peterson owner in most of my leagues, so that helps.........

I'm a Saints fan, so I refuse to pull for anyone in the NFC. If I had to choose I'd probably go with the Steelers as its fun to watch them beat up on people.

I understand the concept of another team to pull for, but I can't see for the life of me how anybody with the username of Portis26 could even remotely enjoy watching the Cowboys.

When I'm not watching my beloved Browns play, I'll be watching the Saints with an honorable mention to the Vikes. I really like the direction the Vikes are taking and I am all geeked up to watch Jaren Allen run wild with his new line mates.

Cleveland was my #2 team last year (as you defined it here). I always liked Braylon and I thought they would improve with their signings, maybe they'll do it again.

The team I'm most interested to see how they perform together this year is Tennessee. You have a controversial, different style QB, an overweight plodding RB who somehow manages to be productive, a speedy rookie RB who could tear the league up or could bust, an overall bad WR corps, a defensive star who may have lost something last year (Bulluck), a DE I love for his work ethic (KVB), a coach who somehow doesn't get enough credit from many, and a VERY tough division.

Actually, I'm very interested in the entire AFC South. There just isn't a more exciting division in the league IMO. Between the upstarts and Indy, the best ball will come from this division. (no offense to the NFC East)

Hey, the username predates the trade to the Skins. It was his number with the Broncos when I registered.

But at another site, I will not name because it needs the traffic, you are a rampant 'Skins fan?

No.

I've always been a Cowboys fan, but the idea of a second favorite type has always fallen into my wheelhouse as well.

I've been a Cutler fan since he was drafted, so it's been the Broncos of late.

New this year will be the Ravens "if" Troy Smith gets the starting nod, which he should (and deserves). I think he's going to surprise many.

Very confusing. Are you a Broncos fan or a Raiders fan :lmao:

Than someone jacked your name, or you jacked theirs or you are fibbing. :lmao:

I saw another guy on FF Today named Portis 26, but I have no idea who he is. I'm pretty sure mine was the original.

I'm a Broncos fan, the Raiders jersey is for the Madden epic about the Raiders - see sig.

I'm a die-hard Jets fan, living in Indianapolis, so my two teams are spoken for... but... if you asked me for a surprise team to root for...

Sneaky suspicion that the TEXANS become the 3rd team in the AFC SOUTH division to make the playoffs at 9-7, while the Steelers with a BRUTAL schedule finish with a losing record. Pats, Browns, Chargers, Colts, Jags and Texans all make the playoffs.

Schaub and hopefully Andre Johnson on the offense while DeMeco Ryan, Amobi Okoye and Mario Williams on the defensive side will lead this team to the playoffs, unless of course my J-E-T-S- JETS JETS JETS come to play this season!

What the flip does any of this have to do with this thread? Take it elsewhere boys.

I certainly agree with the Titans. If they can get some productivity out of that passing game, they can be trouble. I've always thought Fisher deserved more credit than he gets. He gets the most out of what he has to work with.

My 13 year wait for Jets season tickets ended this year :pickle: :pickle: :pickle: So, obviously I'm a Jets homer. That being said, I am one of the rare fans that also roots for all NY teams (my area), such as the Giants. Same with baseball - big Mets fan, but also root for the Yanks.

Cleveland- as a Derek Anderson owner I am intruiged by this team as being for real or a pretender.

Dark horse team Atlanta- I have been an avid M. Turner supporter for the last 2.5/3 years so I will watching Atl with a keen eye this year. Maybe they can have a cinderella year (really doubtful) but watching Turner could hopefully add some excitement to a team that I would never have dreamed of watching.

Chargers fan here.

I root for Wash as a Portis fan

I root for SF as a Gore fan (and since a good friend of mine is a die hard Niners fan, we end up hitting the bar to watch both the 49ers and Chargers. His GF is a Chargers fan so it works out nicely)

I like watching Indy.

As an NFL fan I will watch them ALL

Put me in the Browns camp as well (even though I think they are a bit overrated at this point). As a Pats fan, I'd love to see Romeo succeed as a HC.

Unfortunately, I think they are looking at an 8-8 year.

You just reminded me of a time when we actually debated which team would have more wins - the Browns or the Irish.

Because my team is in the NFC my dirty pleasure team has got to be in the AFC.

Im liking what the Bills organization is doing. (Especially if they move to Canada).

I'm a saints fan. But, having just moved from NOLA to St. Louis, will now be rooting for the Rams somewhat.

Aside from those 2, Minnesota was that team for me last year because of ADP and will continue to be this year (and possibly for as long as they keep him).

I'm a Jets fan, but as a Braylon Edwards dynasty owner, I have become something of a Browns fan as well - I enjoyed watching them turn it around last year after so many awful seasons. I also like the Saints, for a lot of the same reasons - I also like Drew Brees

Second team is the Bills. One of my best buddies is a die hard Bills fan and over the last 15 years I have an unbroken winning streak betting with him against the Bills, so I have followed them a lot. Kindof started to like them after a few years and I generally am overrepresented with Bills players on my teams.

Big Jets fan...originally from Dirty Jersey.

I have lived in NC for 9 years and the Panters are definitely my second team (I think many have an AFC and NFC fave). The Panthers have been an interesting team to follow as for ther past five years always seem to be "in it" on paper.

Not sure how long I will be in Northern California and not care about the Raiders or 49ers. Growing up I was in love with the Raiders mystique in NFL films but I have a hard time liking them because of the whole organization structure right now. Nowadays, my second team is always a team that plays smash mouth football. The Ravens have been it in the past but now it is the Jaguars.

Bears fan but I have adopted my "pre-2007 Blackhawks approach" in that I have every expectation that they will make the wrong decision on any given subject every chance they get. Of course, this only makes this whole #2 thing more interesting.

I like the Steelers because they are in the AFC, I respect the tradition and I like the way they play (historically).

I'm also interested to see how the Vikes pan out this year.

KC fan, so: Whoever is playing the Raiders or Broncos.

Otherwise, I just root for my fantasy player's teams to do whatever will get me points, i.e. I root for my WR/QB's teams to get behind by a lot early, so they have to throw often. :thanks:

I go with the pats as my second fav. mainly because of having brady/moss/welker on my dynasty team, its actually fun watching them run it up on people then.

Packers fan...but living in Nashville and have Titans season tickets...so, the Titans.

Though, we are trying to sell our season tickets as we only have 2 in the upper deck and we now have 2 children (making it hard to go to games now, plus we want to eventually find 4 together to be able to all go as a family).

I am not a fan of any team in the league. But, it seems many people get rather impassioned when it comes to their favorite team. This interests me, and makes me wonder if I am missing aspects of the football experience.

I have been toying with the idea of writing a small java app that will choose one of the teams at random (as random as it can get at least). I would then become a fan of that team until they lose. The team that beats them would become the team I root full. I would continue with this process throughout the season. I wonder if I would end up with a team that makes it to the playoffs.
