Who will Replace Mark Clayton - Gilyard or Gibson? (1 Viewer)

Who is the guy to step in and fill Mark Clayton's role long term? I read that Gilyard is more familiar with Clayton's position.

Any Homers thoughts for this week and long term?

Try the search function...this has been talked about in about 5 different threads. My money is on neither....L Rob.

Long run, definitely Gilyard, he might even be the short term answer.

Im not a fan of Robinson. The guy has been a sleeper favorite for years, and has never done anything. He is like Chaz Schilens, but not as good.

Gibson could likely be the short term answer, but i think Gilyard will be the guy to have by seasons end.

Avery should be the clear #1 if he can come back 100% in 2011. I think he would be in everyones top 20 dynasrt WR's this season had he been healthy.

Why not Amendola?

Every time I have read or head something from St. Louis it's about Amendola.

Robinson I like, but he's always hurt and he's hurt now.

Gilyard, great potential, but not there yet.

Gibson, hasn't shown up yet.

I realize Amendola & Clayton are different types and play different positions, but we are talking about who gets the passes. 12/95/0 looked awfully a lot like a Clayton line.

Gilyard is the one to own long term. Disclaimer: I only own him in one of ten leauges (just picked off the WW), so I'm not heavily invested in him. I almost always lean to the guy with the most upside. Amendola is the one to own short term.

Amendola is the only fantasy startable player at this point. Bradford forces it into him early and often. Maybe Alexander at some point this year if his knee holds up. As a Mizzou and Rams homer, I would love to see him progress as the season goes on and have him, Clayton and Amendola next year as our three wideouts, while we groom a highly drafted rook. I just don't think Alexander does much right away, but he could be a big piece of the puzzle down the road...

No Avery? He was clicking with Bradford before he got hurt in preseason. Which do you think is more likely to to heal and allow a comeback, Avery's ACL or Clayton's patellar tendon? It's all very unclear to me. I also know that Clayton is a free agent next year.

Who is the best dynasty stash with a slight need for bye week help soon then ... a guy like James Davis or Mardy Gilyard?

Tough call ... for this year Davis is more likely than Bell to be viable should Hillis miss time which is looking more and more likely.

Is there any official news of who is going to be the starting 2 wr.. Gilyard, Gibson,Robinson whats the confusion.. I would love to pick up the best guy available nex tto Danny A

What in the world does James Davis, a RB, have to do with the OP's question about STL WR's !?

To stay on track, I posit that L Robinson could be the guy if he was healthy but he's always hurt. Furthermore, he doesn't seem to be the type of WR who can produce when playing hurt. Seems like a complete crapshoot to me.

Long term (i.e., for the next five years) I see the Rams top three wide receivers being, in order: X, Donnie Avery, Danny Amendola.

X could be Danario Alexander, it could be Mark Clayton, or it could be a free agent pickup. It will not be Laurent Robinson, Gibson, or Gilyard.

That wouldn't be bad either. I hope Avery can do something with a legit QB. And I hope he can come back from his injury. One would think he would be back quicker based on time of the injury and age. I would love to have all 4 of these guys on the roster, but with Amendola having locked into the Welker type role, that leaves two spots for three guys. It may very well be Clayton, Avery, and Amendola, with DX on the outside lookin in if he's not healthy....

This is pretty much the way I see it in terms of who it isn't. Gilyard might be able to do it one day. Book is still unwritten on him, but I think we know what we have in Robinson and Gibson.

I mentioned Davis because to carry one flier means giving up one. I've usually played the WR minimalist approach, going Rb with a heartbeat over upside WR who I may need to sit on for longer. That said, there could be a very quick payoff for SOMEONE in St Louis ... curious though if it may end up the new TE with the huge name.

Not on roster. Avery is nothing but a #2 type of WR and he is the best. Some nice ones coming out next year and SL would be a nice landing spot for them as they add weapons for Bradford

LRob will have one very nice game....then proceed to get hurt the following week after owners have acquired him. I've played the LRob dance this year & last...

Yes, they are on the roster. Maybe not long term, but for this season there's some value to be had here. Maybe the next guy won't be a top ten fringe option like Clayton was. But it's a situation worth paying attention to. Perhaps it will be Amendola. Maybe it will be one of the TE's. It could be Robinson. That rookie has been catching quite a few eyes...

Gibson's already been starting at split end. Gilyard should step into Clayton's spot at flanker.

i wish LRob could stay healthy if so i would say him but it looks like gibson for the next few weeks...but gilyard long term...or maybe even neither by next year. Rams a going to adress wr in the draft this year.

Isn't Robinson currently healthy?
Well, it's all relative when it comes to Laurent. He's sure to roll an ankle or something soon.
I don't doubt he'll hurt himself very quickly. But until that time, it's pretty clear he's the guy to take an immediate gamble. Probably a solid option if you need some help this week and/or next.Personally, I'm going to cut Manningham for that rookie they just activated from the practice squad. He'll likely amount to nothing but I'm rolling with the guy I feel has the most talent.

Oh yeah, for a one week (as long as it's THIS week) start, he makes sense. You can just drop him next week after he's hopefully put up a decent game for you & gets hurt in the 4th quarter...
