Who wins the NFC East this year? (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
Call me crazy, but I think things are shaping up nicely for the Skins to take this division. The McNabb signing will pay huge dividends, not only in helping the Redskins but by having an inexperienced QB replace him in Philly. I also think a lot of people are sleeping on the Washington defense. Jim Haslett has some nice pieces in place. Brian Orakpo will terrorize offenses from his new OL spot in the 3-4. Haslett says Orakpo will be rushing the QB "three times more than a year ago" when he had 11 sacks. Ouch. If Fat Albert ever gets with the program, look out.

The Giants do nothing for me. I don't know why. They just seem .... flat.

Dallas appears to be the only team the Skins need to leapfrog. That's no small feat, but it can be done.

 Stranger things have happened in the NFL, but the Redskins have done little to improve themselves except bring in a new coach. I expect the Skins to improve but not close to that much.

Dallas should run away with this division if that line holds up. The skins definitely improved but i don't think they will have enough to surpass the Cowboys or even the Giants. I see Philly finishing last in the division. I'm not sold on Kolb or Mccoy and they will miss Mcnabb this year.

Really?
We'll see, maybe I'm just clueless and forgetting about something. I don't think McNabb at this point in his career is much better than Campbell. Carriker and Kemoeatu don't seem like a huge upgrade on the DL. Their WRs are an old Moss and Galloway who hasn't done anything in 2 years.

Last year the Giants swept the Cowboys and the Skins and lost to the Eagles twice. McNabb had our number, but even more than that, Westbrook destroyed us year after year.

If I had to guess right now, I'd say it's a tossup between the Giants and the Cowboys and I'd favor the Cowboys, but only by a little bit. I'm not scared of the Redskins at all and the Eagles are way too young and inexperienced on offense.

Trent Williams? Kemoeatu? Buchanon? Haslett? And though I'd like nothing more than to agree with you, McNabb is still better than Campbell.

The odds in this division are nuts.

Dallas -200

Giants +225

Philly +450

Skins +775

Philly seems like the bargain here to me. I am a Cowboy fan and I wouldn't lay 2-1. The Giants aren't a terrible play either. I think the Skins should be higher than 775.

All in all, even without the odds, I think I like Philly. I think the defense will be back and the offense should be able to keep dropping big plays. Tough combo.

Westbrook????Try Desean Jackson

I guess you forgot that Westbrook didn't play in either Giants game last year. That was all that young, inexperience destroying your secondary. Including big Leonard Weaver and Shady McCoy running right up the gut for big TD runs.

I look for either the Cowboys or Giants to win the NFC East, Dallas has a brutal schedule that could potentially cost them the NFC East. Washington is an enigma to me, thier defense has always been their saving grace and yet this year they have new coordinator and schemes on both sides of the ball. I would not be surprised to see the Eagles finish last this year, I know this may upset alot of Philly fans but I dont think the Eagles will be able to rely on Kolb this year (like they did with McNabb in years past) and their defense is too inconsistent.

Yes, Westbrook.Desean Jackson was drafted in 2008. His rookie year he scored a total of 3 touchdowns. The next year(the only other year he's played in the NFL) he scored 10. Pretty decent number, but he hasn't 'destroyed' anyone, and he certainly hasn't done it 'year after year'.

Westbrook, on the other hand, has made defenses look old, fat, and stupid for most of the decade.

I agree sort of on the Kolb part, but not the defense part. I think this defense is going to surprise a lot of people. My biggest question mark is the oline (as always). They need to give Kolb enough time back there to scan te field a bit. Preseason he looked scared, scrambling and throwing off the back of his foot, and not looking past his first option to pass. If he has time, he should be able to pick apart teams with the people he'll be passing to. I have a feeling Celek will be left in to block a lot more (to the chagrin of a lot of FFer's) but Kolb will still have plenty of options to hit, he just needs a little time.

All that being said, I can see the Birds winning some big games and losing some close ones. Initially, when their schedule came out I had a tough time finding 8 wins. Not sure much has changed. Though if they can win a couple of the bubble games I have them losing right now (SF, Houston) 10-6 will get them in the playoffs as I am not convinced of anyone running away with it in the NFCE this year. For the purposes of this thread, I voted Cowboys, but they better do a better job of protecting Romo, cause Kitna ain't leading them to the promised land..

Eagles - 4% chance

Redskins - 11% chance

Giants - 26% chance

Cowboys - 59% chance

The Eagles have a 1st year starter who looks okay, but not very good. The Skins, aside from McNabb, don't have a lot of offenisve firepower. Moss, Cooley, and Portis are okay, but aren't dynamic. The Giants are pretty solid, but considerably weaker than the Cowboys, who are stacked.

It seemed like thier defense fell apart towards the end of the year, they gave up 38 to Giants, 13 to 49ers, 27 to Denver, 24 & 34 to Dallas. Thier offense IMO is not good enough to put up 24-30 points a game to win. I realize the defense got Bradley back and added some youth (Graham and Allen) is this why you see them sneaking up on people this year?

LB play alone is much improved. Bradley healthy and Ernie Sims create stability at the most in flux position on D last year. There were at least 6 or 7 different starting LB combos last year including rolling out J Trott from the local radio station to play a few games. The D-line is vastly improved with the addition of Graham and Teo-N. Secondary is a work in progress but could be good with Nate Allen being better than what we had back there last year. The Defense will have growing pains this year but will be better.

I totally forgot about Trotter having to play last year, he singlehandily cost them the game against Oakland. Ernie Sims is an addition by default but still he is grossly inconsistent especially against the run. Thanks for the reply.

Getting Bradley back is huge and should not be understated. They were atrocious at LB especially MLB all year. Getting rid of Macho Harris is addition by subtraction IMO. The only real impactful loss from last year is Sheldon. Adding Sims is big, hes a big hitter that can help with the Eagles plethora blitz packages. Allen was real value where they got him and is an immediate upgrade. Graham, if what I have been reading is accurate, is going to the key to making this defense click. We've already got a probowler in Trent Cole opposite Graham, who has a motor for days and will open things up for Cole. The pressure they are going to put on opposing QB's will make everyone else on Def look great. I could see Asante getting 10 picks this year if everything clicks. So yeah, I guess the main elements are Bradley coming back, the addition of Sims and the injection of young stud potential in Graham and Allen. One more year of the defense under McDermott can't hurt either. :own3d:

The Redskins wont be better this year with a less mobile QB on a team that is learning a completely new offense.

Skins wont finish above .500.

Cowboys 11-5

Giants 10-6

Eagles 10-6

Redskins 7-9

With the schedules the NFCE faces I think 10 wins is all the leader gets and I don't see a WC team coming out of the East either. I do think that every team in this division has MAJOR questions marks though and it's a matter of who's coaching can get beyond that.

I like Dallas as the 10 win team because of the talent but that OL could make everything look bad.

The Giants D is going to hold them to 9 wins

Eagles will be fine with me going 8-8 or even 7-9

Washington is changing schemes on both sides of the ball and isn't that talented to begin with. I see 4 or 5 wins there
